DDCUT05.BCS was the one to edit and save, not DDVOICE.BCS. You can try mine by putting it int he override. Strings will be messed up but let's see if it crashes. Also find the unmodded file for the creature DDvoice.cre in TDD/CRE folder and put that in override only if my BCS crashes.

Make copies of your original files because these won't look good in game only.

edit: the cut5 I downloaded changed the dialog, but otherwise the animation and crash was similar if not the same. The floating dialogue was about some Pasha and crashed on the line "I will do anything you ask."

I mistyped, disregard mention of ddvoice.bcs. I meant the creature's line in cut5.

I'll move said files around, but its only a matter of time until I murder my install by accident. I'm getting a little burned out, since solving would only amount to a pyhrric victory given the amount of time versus benefit.

I didn't find ddvoice.cre in my TDD folder. I searched and found 3 copies(?) in 1. BGII - SoA\aurora\backup\0, 2. BGII - SoA\generalized_biffing\prod\0\biffs\31, and 3. BGII - SoA\xpmod\backup\0

Which one is bg2 using in game, which is an original? My only clue is that BGII - SoA\xpmod\backup\0 was "last modified" 10 minutes before the others on what I presume was the date I ran BWP setup.

The one in gen_biff's folder would be the one in you .bif's (the one being used by the game if there's no ddvoice.cre in your override ;))

Carleton, you can remove the files that you changed and keep it the way it was. Since you CLUA the ddvoice.cre before and it didn't crash then that creature file is probably not corrupt. It may be something local to your hardware and installation.

The one closest to an original would be in the backup folder that is the oldest. Gen_Biff would be the newest changed one where XPMod may be the oldest.

My BCS had different strings references in it because of a different dialog.tlk and install order. It was just to test the placement change which was useless anyway.

From what I looked at none of the cutscenes set any variables so you should be OK by talking to the traveler to open the Rusted Scabbard area on map.

I have never had the problem so I don't know what I can improve for the new version

Whatever the problem is, I don't think it lies with any TDD file. It's either a random error, something to do with the infamous geforce 8600GT I have, or most likely that alot of things don't work if you install BWP without BGT and bgt dependent mods.

I started bg2 with a 6 person level 7 party, fighting mod implemented 20+ level mages with the following spells completely broken: Spell thrust, Secret Word, Pierce shield, and ruby ray of reversal. I also found that the new spell immunities are only removed with khelben's warding whip. Spell strike (9) and Mystra's unraveling (priest 7) remove everything except for spell immunities. Try getting a mage out of invisibility so you can target it with spells when it has immunity divination and immunity abjuration up (including spell trap, absolute immunity, stone skin, prot. magical energy, prot. elements, fireshields, and the new level 8 version of globe of immunity so it can't be aoe'd.) I had to drag around Jan janson with his stupid detect illusion goggles for 8 levels for god's sake.

Anyway my point is that this avoidable cut scene crash isn't the worst turnip I've had.

I know what you are saying. I have a GeForce8400 and to do a lot of tweaking of that to get my game to work nicely without any graphical oddities.

TDD isn't really dependent on BGT as it has has compatibilities for BGT but they are not the same as BGT compatibility files for TDD installed before BGT. Even with TDD I had to do some spell modifying because it wasn't as compatible with BGT as it should be. The spells I changed weren't anything that you mentioned, just some stupid overwriting things.

Some mods I don't have installed are:

~ITEM_REV/ITEM_REV.TP2~ #0 #0 // Item Revisions by Demivrgvs: v2 (Hotfix 20091009)
~ITEM_REV/ITEM_REV.TP2~ #0 #1 // Masterwork Weapons: v2 (Hotfix 20091009)
************************************************************
~TOA/SETUP-TOA.TP2~ #1 #1 // Tales of Anegh (Weidu): v2.0
~TOA/SETUP-TOA.TP2~ #1 #10 // Creature Balancing: v2.0
~TOA/SETUP-TOA.TP2~ #1 #20 // AREA Balancing: v2.0
~TOA/SETUP-TOA.TP2~ #1 #30 // Dialog & Script Balancing: v2.0
~TOA/SETUP-TOA.TP2~ #1 #40 // Stores Balancing: v2.0
~TOA/SETUP-TOA.TP2~ #1 #50 // Item Balancing: v2.0
***********************************************************
~SPELL_REV/SETUP-SPELL_REV.TP2~ #0 #0 // Spell Revisions: v3
~SPELL_REV/SETUP-SPELL_REV.TP2~ #0 #10 // Deva and Planetar Animations: v3
~SPELL_REV/SETUP-SPELL_REV.TP2~ #0 #20 // Mirror Image Fix: v3
~SPELL_REV/SETUP-SPELL_REV.TP2~ #0 #30 // Dispel Magic Fix: v3
~SPELL_REV/SETUP-SPELL_REV.TP2~ #0 #40 // Cure Sleep Fix: v3
~SPELL_REV/SETUP-SPELL_REV.TP2~ #0 #50 // Remove Disabled Spells from Spell Selection Screens: v3
***********************************************************************************************
~SETUP-CREFIXER.TP2~ #0 #0 // Creature Slot Fixer: v1

Also Tower of Deception is not on my list but I have tested that before with TDD.

The Tales of Anegh is untested by me with TDD and Item Revisions and Spell Revisions are untested by me with TDD. Apart from NPC mods and banter packs, I don't see anything that would hose any of your TDD files.

Can you upload your creature files that we looked at. Specifically the ddvoice, but any of the other ones would be great like the husband, larala and bandits and I will check them out.

You can use the Near Infinity to just Export the files and use the upload function. You may have to ZIP or RAR them for the forums to accept them, I dunno with the changes here.

I use my installation for modding so I have no problem checking your files for you.

Cheers

This tale might give you insight into the cause of this particular quest line crashing. I'm still on the last quest of TDD and I encountered the Weslun Tane character who turns into an acid elemental and is supposed to possess people. I read in this 8 year old guide:

Baldurs Gate 2: Shadows of Amn mod: The Darkest Day Walkthrough v. 3.0 017/03/02 by Suburban Jub Collective
"you need to attack the guy who has been possessed almost to the point of death and then Weslun Tane will reappear on his dais"

I found that even after beating someone to 1 hp and walking away for 1/2 hour while a mage tries to melee a regenerating character to death, possession does not time out. Killing a possessed character spawns another invincible elemental Tane that possesses another character you must kill. When you run out of every character besides yourself, you can finally kill it, but if you stay in the area the game crashes pretty soon. Windows recognizes that the game has crashed and minimizes pretty instantly. I got around this by just having my main character in the building, killing the acid elemental only once, and leaving the building quickly.

This is the weslun tane creature. Edit: found the acid elemental.cre but don't know if this is the specific dude spawned for the quest.

I'll check out the creatures and the possession deal tomorrowand the walkthrough is pretty accurate for being so old. My most recent megainstall with TDD playthrough only had one character possessed that had to be killed so it sounds like the script kept looping for you. Mine worked as documented except the character shouldn't be killed.

Also the one that was killed and rez'd had an unmovable girdle. This possession is done by script and then by spell which creates items on the character so I will look at those first and then check the acidel.cre.

Good thing you reminded me about this bit or I would have left it alone

Tested the creatures and they worked fine. Had no problems with the cuts. Sorry I can't do more and I will keep this in mind if others do have problems later.

It hasn't been a total loss. Because of your questions I had fixed a bug with the traveler not spawning. Consequently, the Rusted Scabbard opened up without talking to the Traveller so it may be another script or Ellesime dialog that opens up too. Either way the traveller will open the area and he has a dialog that is more plot oriented.

The global should have been gandarsouth and not alagarsouth in AR2800.BCS. Fixed for new version.

Hi guys,
I have a similar problem to Carleton:

Beat Irenicus in Hell -> Elissime in Suldanesselar -> Candle keep -> East Haven -> Athkatla -> Suldanesselar Cut Scene (Crashes) -> Plagued Village (Desired Area code)

There's one small difference - the Suldanesselar cut scene doesn't crash, I talk to a guy who tells me about his village, and I get the information that a new location has been added to my map. The problem is, it has NOT been added. Can you please give me the CLUA code for this village? I can't find it on the list of TDD areas that you mentioned.

Thanks in advance!

Wow, 5 years later and I have the identical problem Carleton had. Must be a Mod conflict, since my hardware is vastly different. Will try CLUA from before entering Suldanessalar.

Sooo... ARP005 doesn't exist. Does anyone know the area code for the Village (Rusted Scabbard?) There are dozens of TDD maps and it would be tedious trying to CLUA every single one...
