I think I understand what you mean now. The BG2 handles cutscenes differently from BG1, in that the former hides the entire UI when you enter a cutscene, whereas BG1 just shades it out. That means in BG2 you will never see the dialogue bar in a cutscene. This is an engine difference.
Yes Ascension, I think the same, you're right.
Although, some texts like little exclamations (within game and with UI) appears. I remember seeing this texts (cutscenes) sometime with
BGT, but I don't remember in which version.
Why I make this question? Well... this is only my opinion, of course, but in Spanish version, Tales of the Sword Coast must be installed in English because the Spanish version of Tales was very buggy. This makes that the voices AND text appear in english. I don't know about other localized (italian, polsk) versions nor if there are a lot of this texts on-screen, but this voices makes for legacy spanish spoken people not to undersand some missing dialogues in on-screen scenes. This is only my thought, I am not speaking for all the people, of course.
In Spanish version, Clan DLAN has done a Spanish translation for installations with
BG1+
TotSC. So the texts are all well written in Spanish, even they have done a patch for the voices of the
BG1 portion, but there are not Spanish voices for the
TotSC expansion (they had never appeared in Spanish in "vanilla" versions, they are in English).
I don't know if it could be possible to make this subtitles appear somehow, although it is not mandatory, obviously.
Thanks for your comprehension.
EDIT: Findings...
Well, comparing scenes for
BG1 (CH1CUT01.BCS - Gorion) and for
BG2 (NEWGAME.BCS - Irenicus) I've seen that the function DisplayStringHead(Owner,#Ref) is used in
BG2 but not in
BG1. Maybe this is the problem not seeing the subtitles in
BG1 part of
BGT.
I suppouse that is a lot of work to search for the cutscenes and implement this on the
BG1+
TotSC part of
BGT and I understand this. Maybe there is another more simpliest form to implement, but I don't know that. I have very little knowledge (or nothing) about Infinity Engine. I don't know either if the mods programmed for
BG1/
TotSC used on
BGT installs use this function nor use on-screen subtitled texts (let's say
DSotSC or
NTotSC, for example).
It's on your hands to implement that if you think that this could be interesting for
BGT.
Have you tested the subtitles on an original
BGT install with English localized language to see if it happens?
Regards.
