Linux install can't find BG1?

Uh? What happened to my post? Seems it was too long.




Hi there, I' trying to install BGT-WeiDU using the Linux WeiDU and BG1&2 installed via Wine. I've put the /bt folder and setup-bgt.tp2 and setup.bgt.exe in my /BG2 folder. Everything has been put to lowercase. When using the command "WeInstall bgt", everything seems to go fine until it stops saying it couldn't find my BG1 install. By looking to your Windows install faq it should have asked me for its location, but didn't. Widescreen mod was installed and uninstalled successfully before. And now bgmain seems to be corrupted as it doesn't launch anymore. I saved my BG2 folder elsewhere though, its no big deal.

I had the same with linux weidu. It is also uninstallable under WINE yet, known issue.

From wine bug #14545:

There's a bat file that depends on the VER command giving windows version
specific output (and wine's output doesn't match any of them), and a FOR
command in there that gives syntax errors. At least.


The user called Itarilde once managed to install it, but it wasn't perfect.

Much of the BGT installation uses DOS commands, which isn't Linux compatible. It would be possible, thought time-consuming, to convert the shell script to a Linux-compatible format, or you could just use a Windows emulator to install.

"Windows emulator" WINE can't install it, as I told earlier. I don't know if Cedega does, but I guess it's even more behind Wine. We still need a copy of Windows to install it and then to play under linux windows emulator of wine. I did the installation in vmware virtual machine and copied all files to linux space via virtual LAN connection.

I couldn't contact with Itarilde, I hoped he could share those scripts to us. The WINE's built-in cmd.exe tool (.bat interpreter) has a long way to be compatible with BGT/Install/*.bat scripts, for example to finish PreInit.bat it needs to have 'VER' command changed to return what windows version is it set to emulate, now it returns this:

and this text doesn't match any of the checks from the script like:

VER | find "XP" > nul
IF %errorlevel% EQU 0 GOTO NEW1


find.exe also needs to be implemented, from scratch.

The third to be done is dealing with /F parameter of 'FOR' command:

And so cmd.exe would finish to interpret PreInit.bat script and we could look further what needs to be implemented to fire rest of bats. So we just need a skilled programmer to that :) Here's the source code of wine's cmd.exe:
