Well, that's the way it works with the BGII romances. I don't see it as a negative thing, personally. :)

My main concern is that people will get annoyed by the same song playing every single time they decide to talk to an NPC. While I do want all the music files restored, I doubt I would want to hear Morte's theme, for instance, every time I decide to chat with him.

Now, there isn't a whole lot of music in the game compared to the amount of hours a run will take. I would love if things could be, eh, spiced up a bit. If you are walking around the Hive for instance, have NPC X in the group and the area music has already finished, why not have X's theme play for a bit? Of course, this should only happen rarely. But it will add some diversity. I am not entirely sure if this can be done, but I'd love to hear your thoughts on the idea. Maybe you can come up with something feasible.

The very first time you talk to an NPC - like Dak'kon in the bar - I think their theme should play. Morte excluded, as it doesn't really fit the place. The conversations will typically last a while, meaning the song is probably done once the dialog is over. I honestly cannot remember if this is already the case for some of them, but I don't remember it playing for Dak'kon at least.

Also, I think the small areas with no music should be left as they are.

I thought about this too, but, actually, when you think about it, it's either hearing the PC's themes when you talk to them, or hear the SAME area theme over and over and over and over and over and over and over. Cause nothing besides battle music (which, good as it is, I get really sick of and usually remove with my tweak) replaces it. Why -not- hear Morte's theme every time you decide to chat with him, when the alternative is hearing the Hive area music for the 10,000th time? No matter how much you love chatting with him, you're not going to hear his music 1/100th as often as you'll hear the various area songs.

I don't have a problem hearing Dak'kon's theme the entire time I'm running through the Circle with him. Seems quite appropriate, actually. I know when we're done with the Circle I'll get to hear the Hive area music another few hundred consecutive times :)

They already do, including Dak'kon - in fact, that's pretty much the only time you'll hear any of their themes - once you take them into your party, you never hear them again until the Fortress.

The way I have it coded now, talking to Morte won't start up his music until you've left the Mortuary for the first time. Also, with one exception with Annah, I didn't add the music when you talk to them outside of your party. I've only added the themes in the typical conversations you get with them when they are in your party.

This isn't programmatically possible, but doesn't having it play based on your chatting with them achieve pretty much the same purpose and effect, only more under the player's control?

Incidentally, I just used Morte's main theme. His alternate theme just seems really out of place, I have to say. Happy celtic music for a floating skull just seems wrong somehow. And I have no idea how I could implement them both anyway.

I´m completely a favor of your method of restoring this Qwinn. In some ways is an odd sound test for the game haha, thats great!. Maybe you can add the alt. Morte theme in a special situation or dialogue with him if possible (when he taunts the female zombies or i dont know XD) and then we will have the complete soundtrack back in the game. Simply make the restore songs optional and nobody will get upset. I would prefer to use them, personally i like them all. Keep the good work!

From what I remember, both Morte themes are terrible and sound really out of place in the game. One is some sort of happy classical music sounding piece, the other one prominently features burping noises. And to listen to those burping sounds every time you click on morte...... Please no. It seems the designers intentionally left them out - when you first encounter morte in the mortuary, the nameless ones music plays, and from what i remember, in the text file in the games music folder, it actually states that the nameless ones theme is also mortes theme.

I think the alternate smoldering corpse theme would actually suit the gathering dust bar very well, what about that?

As mentioned previously in the thread, I -did- restore the alternate SCB theme, it will play at night and the regular theme will play during the day.

As for Morte's theme, I don't think there's anything in the files that really suggests that it was left out deliberately... it could just as well have been an accident. TNO's theme is CHAR_01.MUS, Morte's theme is CHAR_11.MUS, it could quite easily have been a typo and because of it the fact that the music files weren't included at all might have made it through testing without being detected.

But, regardless, I'm implementing it as a restoration, not a fix, so whether it was deliberate or not isn't really pertinent. His main theme actually doesn't sound that bad in game (I agree there's really no place where the happy celtic music seems appropriate), and as I mentioned previously you don't have to worry about hearing it all the time in the mortuary at the start of the game, it won't start playing until after you've left the mortuary for the first time. Lastly, there's plenty of areas where music just won't play at all, if you really hate it you can make sure to have your conversations with him in those places. Or, you can just not install the RS&B component :)

But, honestly, even if it weren't for the purpose of restoring Morte's theme, I think a "play music when talking to NPC's" mod/tweak would have been called for anyway, those are 7 cool pieces of music that, other than Ignus's, you can barely ever get to hear throughout the game.

Just for the record, I'm not going to try to restore any more music. UB used to be the smallest download, but with the restored music it now stands at over 13 megs compressed. That's compared to Fixpack as just barely over 1 meg. The alternate smoldering corpse bar theme and Morte's main theme will have to suffice, I don't think any of the remaining music is worth exploding the download size any further.

That's fair enough, i can see how the increased file size would cause problems. Alternate smoldering corpse and morte's theme will be a great addition.
Good job Qwinn.

Those 2 additions are excellent. If you are concerned about the file size, perhaps you could have 2 version of the UB (1 with just the 2 additions you added, and 1 with new music)?

That or create a new extra music pack? I' personally would love to see some more of the unused music in game.

Anyways well done on what you have done so far.
