Hi, I recently attempted to install the the BGT mod, and I had a question.

This is what I did:
1) Installed fresh copies from 4-in-1 collection of BG + TotSC + patch, and BG2 + ToB + patch (all full installations)
2) Applied G3 BG2 Fixpack
3) Installed BGT mod
4) Installed Widescreen mod
5) Applied the Music and GUI fixes included with the BGT mod

Everything looks great and the game starts fine and looks great when I start a new game from Candlekeep. However, when I start the game, at the point where you are given the choice to play Baldur's Gate or Throne of Bhaal, where you could normally choose to start directly from ToB, if I click ToB I get the message that I don't have the disc inserted and that I need to insert the disc to continue. This is despite the fact that I had the ToB disc in to launch the game itself! I could access that section normally before applying the various modfications, and the BGT readme indicates that you can go to ToB as normal, so I was wondering if I did something wrong with the mod installations. Thanks!

I forgot to mention in the prior post that I can start a Shadows of Amn game fine using the BGT procedure. Its only the ToB section that I can't access normally. Of course, I got your mod to play through the whole saga, so I don't mind starting at the beginning of BG1, but I'm worried that the ToB menu isn't working properly because I don't want to play up to that point and then get errors.

Have a look inside the baldur.ini file in the game directory and check if the paths are correct.
Otherwise, perhaps ToB didn't quite install correctly (scratch on disc?) so there is a missing file of some sort?

This is what I did: 1) 2) 3) 4) 5)

For total compatibility, you also need the Worldmap mod, cause the G3 BG2 Fixpack, and the BGT v1.08 both update the worldmap...
Question, what size is your installation, and how much cache did you 'optionalize'... this is to conform that you have the basics, that the game files are close to what they should be in space requirements.

How should the paths read in the baldur.ini file? Should I just post what mine say?

Can the Worldmap mod be installed over my current installation, or would I have to reinstall in a different order?

The size of my BG2 folder is "5.13 GB (5,512,388,051 bytes)". The "size on disk" is "5.17 GB (5,554,376,704 bytes)".

Not sure about that cache - how do I check so I can get back to you with an answer?

Thanks guys for your help.

Well, check that they are valid paths. If you did a full installation, they should all point to a location on your HDD.

For example, mine reads:
[Alias]
HD0:=D:\Modding\bgtest\
CD1:=D:\Modding\bgtest\CD1\
CD2:=D:\Modding\bgtest\CD2\;D:\Modding\bgtest\CD2\
CD3:=D:\Modding\bgtest\CD3\
CD4:=D:\Modding\bgtest\CD4\
CD5:=D:\Modding\bgtest\CD5\

HD0:=C:\Program Files (x86)\Black Isle\BGII - SoA\

That's a Vista or W7.If you are going to modify the game under the Vista or W7, you need to install the game anywhere else than the Program Files sub-directory... this is cause the to OS's protect the files in the sub-directories with read-only protection which mirrors the original files to there, so the original files are used even if you edit them by hand and replace them with something else. So make a "Games" directory, or what ever your language uses for the games term.

I would suggest that you'll move the game directory to 'C:\Games*\BGII - SoA' or something, * or what ever you call the 'games' in your language. Then go to C:\Games*\BGII - SoA from where you modify the baldur.ini file and then can start the BGMain.exe to begin the game.

Yeah, its 7 Pro 64. I'll put the game in another folder and then try it out and report back. Thanks!

It has been a while since I started this thread, but I got distracted, and now I am thinking of playing through the BG games again. I will try this again and hope this works. I have one more question though - someone mentioned the Worldmap mod earlier in this thread. Where should that go in my install order? (please refer to my initial post for my installation order)

Easy.

Thanks again for all the help. I installed the games, patches, and the specified mods, as well as the Restored Textscreen Music mod (I just added that one at the end of the install order. This time, I installed in a separate directory instead of under Program Files, as you suggested earlier. Everything works wonderfully, and with the widescreen mod and the worldmap mod, everything looks pretty too. This should be great :)

One more thing: Do any of the mods remove the disc check so that I can play without the DVD?

By default no. There is an age old CD-hack that might not work in all the versions and mods...

Thanks. Since it might not work, I probably won't worry about it for now. With the 4 in 1 boxset and with BGT installed, I can play everything off of the ToB disc, so I guess that is good enough. Thank you for all the help :)

Well, you can relocate the saves ... back to the game folder. The BG1's saves are in:

2.Q5 The BG1 saves disappear to somewhere with Window Vista/7, help, while I went stupidly and installed into the Program Files folder ?
The files, if you have access to them are hidden somewhere close to:
C:\Users\*username*\AppData\Roaming\VirtualStore\Program Files\Black Isle\Baldur's Gate\save\
OR in:
C:\Users\*username*\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\Program Files\Black Isle\Baldur's Gate\save\

...
