ok I don't get this megamod thing at all

I've played the game with various mods over and over, sometimes the game was quite stable but usually only after multiple installations

but how is it supposed to be comfortable/time-saving if you have to edit confusing entries in a .bat file by reading them up in a 200-page pdf file? can components be altered/removed AFTER the installation of the megamod or not? I don't want all mods/components, obviously - but I don't want to scribble around in the ultra-confusing .bat file either

seriously, I might be completely wrong, but if this installation is as I understand it, I can't see why anybody would go through this annoyance

it's definitely not user friendly to not include a faq in the installation package

Have you tried BiG World Setup Beta? It worked for me. :new_thumbs: You still might still have to try it a few times.

It's stiller fasten then hosing your install by installing mods randomly.
You have to install in some oder, and the one that's close to being accurate while including most of the mods is written down there.
If you think the batch-file is confusing, you might not have read the "read me". If you still find it confusing, it may be because of all the variables in the file. You can try to replace all those %XYZ%s with it's value (the XYZ in the SET XYZ=Some value) by using search and replace.

What do you expect of a pdf that covers around 400 mods and all of it's components, some description of the mod, some notes about conflicts, general notes and so on?

can components be altered/removed AFTER the installation of the megamod or not?

The earlier the component was installed, the more components between the end and that one will be removed and reinstalled. This may take a lot of time (hours per component) or even destroy the installation.
So reinstalling the complete thing might be faster.

I don't want all mods/components, obviously - but I don't want to scribble around in the ultra-confusing .bat file either

If you don't want to go with the mods that are installed per default, I don't see why you can be bothered by a pdf that describes all that component that you don't want to have.

seriously, I might be completely wrong, but if this installation is as I understand it, I can't see why anybody would go through this annoyance

If you are annoyed, leave your PC, take a deep breather and go for a walk.
If you still think you don't want to edit the batch, try as the beta as suggested, make sure you select the customized install and read about all the components before you start to install.

it's definitely not user friendly to not include a faq in the installation package

There is a "read me".

yes! that's what I was looking for! :-)

well haven't the time to try it right now but this looks a lot more feasible than editing the batch file

maybe the existence of this setup should be highlighted better, could draw in more casual players who haven't played in a while - maybe I just overlooked the information, who knows

PS: question: does the installation slow down your computer's performance? (while the installation is running I mean)

It's a beta -- so it's been under some heavy developing at the beginning but seems to be rather stable now.
At least I haven't read bug reports for some time now.

The BWS still does the same as before (download and extraction) plus starting the WeiDU-installation now, which was done by the batch. But the actions are still the same for your PC.
So performance-wise it's not really a difference to the constellation before:
Extraction and installation will cause your CPU-usage to go up for sure.
Extracting or moving/copying files around will have some effect on your disk.

I have the invite to get into Duchal's palace in BG1, but I don't have any option to enter when I talk to the gaurd. Please help.

I tried using CLUA codes to teleport in by using map AR0108, but it's telling that map doesn't exist.

after 16 (!) hours of straight installing I accidentally terminated the installation :crying:

on the plus side I at least have the files that were downloaded

does somebody have the order of installation list that the setup itself uses? so that I can do it manually... (it's a life's work to install this game...)

I think it should allow you to restart at the point where you left off (at least it does in the beta). Depends how exactly the setup was "terminated" ;)

On the other hand, 16 hours and still not finished seems a lot. What was your mod selection ? What are the machine specs ? Did you see which mod was being installed before it quit ?

Well, it's not that much if it wasn't installing all the while, but downloading the files it would install... or if the game was in a USB drive(definitely not recommended).

What comes to the list, one could use the same BiG World Install.bat, if one just removes all the already installed mods install commands, but that's kinda difficult... or if you are looking for a list, the already downloaded manual is a good place to start from.

average download speed was 50-60 kb/s I guess

I accidentally turned the laptop off because I thought it had switched to standby modus (but it was only my mouse that was unplugged  )

last mod downloaded was ToB extender, so it was basically done I guess (dunno if this last component was actually finished, but it's likely)

so is there any way to resume the installation? (don't think so though)

the order in the manual is the correct order for manual installation too? shouldn't trilogy be installed at the very beginning? when should I install the world map? (wm caused lots of trouble in previous installations)

The Install phase, or the Download phase? As the BWS will keep the downloaded content on the assigned folder, but the install needs to be redone if a mod was installed already(but you do not have to re-download the already downloaded content).

The manual has the correct install order! almost...

The BGT-WeiDU needs to be installed in the, what is it, once ~1/8th of the install is done(after the other big mods), and the Worldmap needs to be installed near the finish.

But your best option is to rerun the "BiG World Setup.vbs" again!

Did you consider uploading the compressed log?
By the way, someone is in a good mod. Flame on. ^_^

Edit:
In most cases you can resume the installation while using the BWS-beta.
Did you ran out of disk-space?

Well, since it was an installation-problem (from what I remind) you might go with the BiG World Setup\Logs\BiG World Install Debug.txt.

That's why I asked for a compressed one. ;)
E.g. 7-zip shrinks 40 MB to under 500 KB. Winrar, Winzip and others should also get the job done.
