The final post for Baldur's Gate. Sarevok is dead. Finished
NTotSC & End Game. No problems that would affect the game.
1..Brother Hasdar - He does not get away from my group. He is killed, but the Book of Unknowing disappears from my character and is not found on Brother Hasdar. Seems like a bit of cheating here, but since the Book of Unknowing has no further use it is nothing to worry about.
2..Larswood - Haeball - Previously Haeball sent you to get a Magic Bow from some elves. This quest along with the area appears to have been removed from the game. As I recall, if you chose to engage the elves in a fight, it was a very tough battle.
General comments:
1..Missile, potion, gem, etc., stacking is inconsistent. In playing around with ShadowKeeper, I found many items had duplicates. The function of the items were identical. However the stacking was different. For example, some items had a limit of 4 and others had a limit of 20. It does not matter when they are in a container such as a Bag of Holding, but you notice the difference when they are in your Inventory slots. Which one you get depends on which mod has you are playing when you find the item.
2..Easy way to kill monsters. The mess up timing of the appearance of random encounters is a blessing and a curse. For random encounters that occur between areas, it is easy to kill the monsters. You quickly learn where they will appear. SO you can set up defenses and cast spells before the battle. Cast your spells then have a party member who takes little or no damage from the spells walk into the area where the monsters will materialize. They appear and if you have cast the correct spells, they die without a fight. For random encounters that appear in areas, this delay can be a real problem. They are triggered by your party walking in the area and you find your group in the middle of the monster group. I had some very tough battles this way.
3..Sound Effects not consistent. Many times battle sounds, opening chests, etc. and other sounds are not made. You need to keep your eyes on the entire screen to see what is happening as your ears may not always help. No problem with music and other general background sounds.
4..The Widescreen Mod does a much better job of setting wide screen size than Config program at the same settings. I have tried both and on my computer with Windows
XP Pro SP 2 the difference is very noticeable.
There is an old saying that goes "If it ain't broke, don't fix it". From my game experience, it is my opinion that "balancing" is fixing something that is not broke. It is easy for a player to balance the game to his/her level. If weapons or armor or spells are too powerful, don't use them. If monsters are too weak, use less powerful weapons and spells when fighting them. If you have too much gold, don't spend it.
On to Shadows of Amn,
