I was just wondering if there was going to be a Macintosh version of this mod, or perhaps it would work with both. I know it might be too much to hope for, but I thought maybe I would put it up for consideration. There are so many great mods out there, but I can't use the majority of them becuase I don't have a Windows computer. I would love to romance Edwin (he's just so adorably irate all the time).

I also loved the stories that (I assume) this entire mod is based on. I'd like to get a chance to play it.

So, maybe after you're all done with this version, you could figure out a way to port it? I'm afraid I don't know any programmers who use Macs...

And if you can't, I shall simply have to get a Windows computer, a Windows version of the game, and download the mod. I'm that eager! :P

Hi there! :) Happy to hear you're enjoying my stories! We haven't discussed doing a Mac version yet...I honestly have no idea how difficult it would be to do so. I'll have to ask Dorotea if she knows, or if the mod might possibly work with both.

To be honest I really don't know how much work it would be either. I myself have never attempted modding.

But, if it's possible, that would be great. I'm not sure if it could work with both, but it's entirely possible. And if not, I guess it's a matter of different types of encoding and making sure filenames don't exceed the character limit.

Thanks for replying to my message. :) I hope it works!

Mac version? To tell you the truth - I have no clue... I will have to ask Wes Weimer. Actually as a Mac enthusiast I suggest you email Wes (he is the author of Weidu utility that is used for all mods in this forum) Wes is extremely nice and friendly person - or you may just post the question on the open Weidu help forum - I am positive you will get tons of replies.

Just ask if weidu mods are generally compatible with Mac and if yes how do you go about installing them.

PS

Ah! :P I almost forgot - Rikki here used to have a Mac - and she tested ER from the beginning - so maybe weidu is compatible with Mac OS after all...

Freedom cannot be equated with goodness, virtue, or perfection. Freedom has its own unique self-contained nature; freedom is freedom ? not universal goodness. Any confusion or deliberate equalization of freedom with goodness and excellence is in itself negation of freedom, and acceptance of the path of restraint and enforcement.

Yes, I think there is a Mac version, but I wasn't sure if maybe some of the files wouldn't work right with a Mac. I assume that I would just have to know the basic locations for things if it caused a bit of trouble.

Supposedly the Kelsey Mod for the Mac uses a WeiDu installer (but of course I had a few problems with that one...) so I'm assuming that it does work.

Thanks for the advice! :)

Yes, WeiDU is available for Mac OS X. A "plain" WeiDU mod can be installed on Mac OS X simply by replacing the Setup-XXX.exe file with the Mac OS X version of WeiDU.

The issues are:

TOB: If a mod requires TOB, it won't work on the Mac (at least until that Mac-TOB finally comes out).

Support operations (special batch files, music decoding, etc.): oggdec is a Windows program, although the source is available and COULD be recompiled for Mac OS X. For Kelsey, I know that the repackager chose to use the program "sox" to do the ogg decoding. So someone would have to tweak the script that gets run at exit and include and call sox, or something like that, to get the new audio to work.

TISpack: I don't know that the Edwin mod is introducing new areas, and if it is if it's using TISpack, but at the moment TISpack is Windows-only. Although the source is included, and it too could be recompiled for Mac OS X.

And if you need help with something or just want to discuss mods from a mac perspective, there's a nice forum at http://ire.mainecoon.net/yabbse/ which is well worth a visit.

(you windows-using people can of course visit too, if you like. I know jcompton has posted there a couple of times, and it doesn't seem to have hdone him any harm...)

I was asked to weigh in since I've got a Mac, and have played many SOA-WeiDu mods on it.

The nifty thing about WeiDu is that it IS compatible with the Mac OS. Most non-WeiDu mods aren't.

For system 9, you need a program such as Virtual PC to install the WeiDu mods. I never had any problem with SOA-only mods once installed apart from the occasional weird conflict between them, which wasn't a Mac issue. I used Real PC for the installation, myself, but that requires that you have a Windows installation disk.

I understand things are different for system X (namely, you don't need a Windows emulator to install the mods), but I've never played the game under system X so I'm not much help there.

Throne of Bhaal is almost available for the Mac! It should be out by Xmas, at least according to the Macplay newsletter that I receive every month. Once it finally gets here then all WeiDu mods will be playable on Macs. Check it out at http://www.macplay.com/

*edit* You might also want to check out http://ire.mainecoon...abbse/index.php

"The Balduran's Adventurer's Bar and Grill" has many Mac-friendly mods, and forums with Mac-literate folks who would be able to help you.

Ah, thank you! Yes, I heard that Throne of Bhaal was almost out for the Mac (it's about time!) but I couldn't seem to find out when.

The thing about OS X now, though, is that the game doesn't work right with this new Panther system upgrade (every time you hit any sort of combat it quits). So I have to play it in OS 9. I do have Virtual PC (an old version, I must say), but I really don't know how I would install something for my Mac while in Windows.

I'll just have to do some experimenting with this. And if that doesn't work I'll just have to wait until Throne of Bhaal. Thanks for your help, everyone. :)

Basically, you share the Mac drive on the Windows side, then extract the mod and run the setup program in Windows, but pointing at the Mac filesystem. You don't need the PC version of BG2 to make this work.

Oooooh... I am enlightened. Thanks for clearing that up. I'll have to try that. :)
