I quote from the BP Readme:

Fewer On-Screen Shouts :  BP adds a lot of enemy string heads, to make some of its choices clearer and to add in-game immersion. Some people don’t like it. This removes the bulk of them. A few might have slipped through the cracks, thus “fewer” instead of “no shouts”.

Can anyone give me a concrete example of how these shouts work?

The enemy will sometimes use on screen "shouts", just look at this video the first 30 seconds, (it's starts at ~15seconds) and do it without sound, yes, that's the original BG2 cutscene, the mod uses the same texts in noting the player.... they are printed to the text box also.

So the shouts are the in game texts that appear on top of the shouter...
