Fun, setting the CPU affinity nor the compatibility mode of the baldur.exe does nothing as the game is actually started with the BGMain.exe . The baldur.exe is just a pain in the tush, a front-end program.

My advice, copy paste the baldur.ini -files content and paste it to a post here. You can open the file with Notepad for example.

OK, desert dweller, welcome to the sanity, you are free to search for the limit, it's out there, we drew it in the sand. Ouh, actually it was still snow then.. but anyways.

Thanks for taking a stab at this conundrum. You'll notice I am using iso files for the cds; I do own the actual copies of the game and can post a picture proving it. I only grabbed the isos for convenience. ill retry with the bgmain.exe and see if that worked

You don't have the 3d acceleration on. Use the BGConfig.exe to turn it on and make the tests.. see if it helps.

I would have assumed that you would have a Windows 8.1, based on this:

[Alias]
HD0:=C:\Users\Jeri_dro\Desktop\Media\Black Isle\New folder\
CD1:=C:\Users\Jeri_dro\Desktop\Media\Black Isle\New folder\CD1\
CD2:=C:\Users\Jeri_dro\Desktop\Media\Black Isle\New folder\CD2\
CD3:=C:\Users\Jeri_dro\Desktop\Media\Black Isle\New folder\CD3\
CD4:=C:\Users\Jeri_dro\Desktop\Media\Black Isle\New folder\CD4\
CD5:=C:\Users\Jeri_dro\Desktop\Media\Black Isle\New folder\CD5\

Why did you install the game to your desktop ? And of all thinga to a folder called "New folder" ? :P

K, I would install it here; C:\Users\Jeri_dro\Games\BGII - SoA\ ... on Windows 8.1, on 7, anywhere else than the Program Files folder will do, as long as you disable/minimize the influence of the User Account Control and Program Compatibility Assistant.
And when you install mods, remove the CD images from the image drive.
I have no idea if that actually does anything to help, but at least it won't be at the desktop then. And I would actually make a quick icon of the games folder too.

Low Mem Sounds 1=0
Low Mem Sounds 2=0

Could help to be:

Low Mem Sounds 1=0
Low Mem Sounds 2=1

.. or not.

Erhm:

Volume Movie=150
Volume Music=150
Volume Voices=150
Volume Ambients=150
Volume SFX=150

Again, no idea, but try and set those to 50 ... won't likely help at all, but you newer know if you never try.

The next thing is, how modified is the game yours ? A good indicator is the size of the override folder in your game. If it's larger than say 100 Mb's, you should use the Generalized Biffing mod to bif the game(it just theoretically makes the game data easier to read for the games engine, and thus faster).

I will try the suggestions you mentioned when I get the chance

I have previously stated that I am using windows 7

.... yea I know about the new folder, I was in a hurry lol

I have already tried 3d acceleration, when I use it in fullscreen mode it makes the game only 60% viewable on the screen and does not fix the lag.

The game is not modded at all and I have only used the Baldur's Gate II: Throne of Bhaal Patch Version 26498

That's because your video card settings... you can edit that with the NVIDIA Control Panel setting. Your card (assuming from a picture from google, assuming it's correct) has the Display option called "Adjust desktop size and position", which allows you to have a different scaling options, and find the correct one. Mine is the "Aspect ration", but it could also be also the Full-screen or No scaling.

Of course, and these are meant just for that. As I could also put you to read the 20 page long FAQ I wrote years ago, half of which is isn't important anymore out out dated, wrongly formated or other things, and then ask if you had nothing else I could help/bother you with... but that's just a tiny bit too self-absorbed, so I just answer questions and use that and other knowledge for the common EVIL .

Thanks for the "Adjust Desktop size" advice. switching from "aspect ratio" to Full Screen fixed the position but seemed to cause several barriers for the cursor on the map screen. switching to "No Scaling" option also fixes the screen position but crashes during the intro movies. still no solution to the lag and crash problem

Can't help here. I missed the 7-series - I went straight from the 560Ti to the 970.
