Magic Resistance Multiple Messages

With the core component of Tobex v26 installed and absolutely nothing else, using BG Complete from GOG, whenever I cast a spell on an enemy with magic resistance I get multiple messages in the log informing me that they've made their magic resistance pass. It varies from 2 to 7 or 8 copies of the same "Magic Resistance" message. In multimage battles this is very irritating, does anyone know a component to disable to fix this? I disabled saving throw fix to correct the multiple messages there, but disabling magic resistance mod fix does not correct the problem.

Thanks a lot. Hopefully not everyone has migrated to EE yet and can help me.

You can disable the feature by editing one of the .ini files the tobex comes with, after the install is done. My material would tell me it's this: <gameinstall folder>/TobEx_ini/TobExCore.ini -file, it's just one of the options.

Yep, Jarno Mikkola. my Mega Mod FAQ. Use of the BWS, and how to use it(scroll down that post a bit).
OK, desert dweller, welcome to the sanity, you are free to search for the limit, it's out there, we drew it in the sand. Ouh, actually it was still snow then.. but anyways.

I tested this with every single option in the TobExCore.ini file. I disabled everything, all 1s turned to 0s. The magic resistance messages still repeat. I even tried a new install but with every option in default_core.ini turned to 0s as well. With every Tobex option turned off I still get the multiple messages. Uninstall Tobex, the messages go away.

I can't believe no one else had this problem, I have to be doing something wrong but cannot figure out what.

What spell are you casting ? Magic missile for example throws many projectiles so it is normal that many magic resistance messages appear.

There is a known bug that many messages are displayed when a character makes a save (for example because an enemy tried to charm you) but i do not know if the same bug also applies to your case of magic resistance. You can solve this problem of many messages by disabling the "Use EFF Fix" in the tobexcore.ini as the Imp told you (but this way you disable the "fixes" that tobex does).

I've tried multiple spells, magic resistance always gives multiple responses. Interestingly enough, it is consistent per spell: magic missile always gives two responses, fireball gives two, chromatic orb gives three, flame arrow gives 9(!).

Disabling "Use EFF Fix" or "Saving Throw Fix" does not change this issue.

Like I mentioned, I actually tried disabling every single change by Tobex in the .ini file and yet it still gave multiple messages. Uninstall Tobex and its just one.

Try an earlier version. If it's fine, check the changelog for b26 to find the culprit.

I wanted to do that but the earlier versions are no longer available through Tobex's download page here. It just gives me an error page not found for any version earlier than 26. And I'm not technically savvy enough to figure out how to install from github since they don't include a setup file.

Download the archive(TobEx-master.zip), extract just the Weidu -folder in it to somewhere, then go into that folder and copy paste the ToBEx folder from there into your game folder, then copy any one of the other setup-*weidumod*.exe's and rename it as:

setup-ToBEx.exe, and then just run that.

Here is a 7zip of v23 and 24. I can't find my 25.

ToBEx v23 & v24

I'm sure I have earlier versions on a flash drive somewhere.

Thank you everyone so much! What I can definitely say is the problem was introduced somewhere between versions 24 and 25. I've spent way too much time modding BG and not enough playing it, so I'm just gonna keep using version 24 but if anyone else has this same issue, using 24 should resolve it. Again, I'm very grateful to the community that's keeping this game alive, I honestly thought posting here was a longshot and that this forum would have been long abandoned.

Hello again.

I couldn't find how to upload files as guest so i finally registered :)

If you do not mind getting a binary dll from a random guy on the internet, this is the latest beta 0027 build of tobex. It solves the problem i described in my earlier post that when someone throws a save-or-else spell like charm at you and you save, the message is displayed multiple times. Maybe it solves your problem as well.

I use it for a long time and it works perfectly. I have noticed only one problem. Due to the different way that effects are applied, certain chainings of effects do not work. One example is the way traps are set in the mod "trap revisions" so i had to change one effect file to make it work. Another is the "ding0's questpack" dispelling of windspears illusion (this does not work even with the b0026 version and it is fixed in version 3.2 of questpack).

Attached File  tobex-0.27.4.15.zip   361.36K   405 downloads

If you want to compile it yourself from the github source code just to be sure, i can provide instructions.

Edit:
The b27 dll i gave does not work so i recommend people not to use it.

I used it for whole playthroughs and i am fairly sure that it worked perfectly (besides the two problems i mentioned). However, i can't get it to work now. I compiled all three versions (0.27.4.12, .13, .15) in all variations i could think of (statically, dynamically, different mfc versions, etc) and none works.

I use it through wine on linux so just to be sure, Salk tested it natively on Windows and it doesn't work there too. Many summoning spells (spider spawn, animate dead) and in general all spells that use nested effects (deck of many hands, etc) do not work.

I am sorry for the inconvenience i might have caused anyone.

it was good to try and test a newer version. No real harm done. ;)

Hi. If anybody is still out there, I would really like to know if it is possible install a new version of tobex post-BWS-EET install. If it is, is it simply a case of just extracting the folder and setup.exe to the main game folder and running it?

I have found my way here because of a problem I have, which is outlined here:

https://forums.beamd...-problem#latest

and then because of a potential solution I found, which is discussed here:

http://www.shsforums...uttering/page-7

The temporary fix outlined in this last post works for me, but it is a hassle to have to redo steps 1-6 everytime I reload BGmain.exe. According to this post, this fix was rolled into v25 (and presumably beyond) by Ascension64. I understand v27 is broken. So I plan to install v26.

Just to understand that correctly

You want to mix tobex and bgmain.exe tweaks, i.e. modifications for the classic game versions with the EET?

Are you aware that EE base game already contains many things formerly introduced by Tobex for the old game?

This will be a wild mixture to say the least...

Stuttering and lag if it happens in EE often has different sources from those in the classic games. If it is not stuttering in the classic sense (a script repeating itself in a loop),, there is game lag for some EE users, which is a different issue.

Hey. Yes I'm aware. If I search my main game folder I can see there is a bunch of TobEx stuff there, but it is version 24. From what I understand of the second post above, the fix I need was added in v25.

If you look at the first post, I was originally under the impression that it was a script repeating itself in a loop, but after installing the stuttertest and looking at the results with Ludovikh it appears there is nothing wrong with scripts - or at least nothing wrong that we can see.

When you say that there is game lag for some EE users, which issue are you referring to and is their a solution?

What is your *Main Game Folder*?

Why do you have *Tobex stuff* there? When I mentioned Tobex, I meant functionality added to the old game with Tobex that has now become integrated part of the game engine, so no need to again add it with an external mod to the EE version.
