Where would one look in the code to tell how far the romance is/has advanced? IS there a specific program that you need to use? In which file would it be? Thanks for any help.

I use ShadowKeeper. You can look at the variables and find the Lovetalk variable for a given NPC. (I'm not sure what they are all called, I'm away from home.) As real time passes the variable increments with time and triggers the NPC dialog.
You can also use Infinity Explorer to read the dialog files of NPCs and see all the romance dialog and what variable triggers them.
