Please Help! Complete modding newbie

29 December 2016 - 09:17 AM

Help! :crying: I've never done any programming in my life and I need someone who has experience and can explain how I can apply mods. I checked the forums, but it seems like most of you already have a basic level of understanding that I'm lacking. I'm not an idiot, but I have no experience, and that basically comes down to the same thing here.

So I've been wanting to play Baldur's Gate for awhile now for nostalgia purposes, but I didn't really do anything about it until I randomly found the Nathaniel mod. I've also been looking at some of the other mods here and they look interesting to try out.

I bought the Enhanced Edition of Baldur's Gate 2 days ago, and then downloaded the Nathaniel mod, naively thinking that's all I had to do. I couldn't find him in the game, so I looked up the installation instructions and figured out I'd messed up.

I didn't even have a program that could open .rar files until I downloaded t-zip, but even then I didn't understand the instructions to "open the .exe file anywhere on your drive". I took that to mean as long as it was on my computer I could open it. Apparently, that's not the case  <_<

So then I tried hunting down the actual folders where the Baldur's Gate game and Infinity Engine game directory, but I wasn't actually sure what I was looking for, and every time I tried opening the .exe file, I got an error saying that it was not in a game directory. So then I downloaded EE Keeper from Soulforge because I figured that might help. Only EE Keeper didn't know where my Baldur's Gate was on my computer either.

So that's where I'm at: Downloads of EE Keeper, Nathaniel mod, and Baldur's Gate, and no idea how to put them together. Heck, I didn't realize how hard it was to even find the C/: drive on Windows 10 until trying all this tomfoolery, and I've developed a healthy dislike for Cortana as a result.

Please please please someone help me figure out how to do this.
