[Gothic Rose]

I am simply enchanted with the idea of creating a mod for BGII, since I love the game so much. I am still in the learning phase, but it doesn't seem horrifically tough, just time consuming. Here, for perusal and opinion, is my idea:

Grim and Raine, the Karmic Twins

Grim:
Human
Paladin (Possibly Kit)
Alignment: Lawful Good
Patron Deity: Ilmater
Age: 20
Personality: Somewhat cheerful, but also serious. Strong willed and oft stubborn, but with a true caring heart. Unlike Keldorn, Grim prefers to at least attempt to heal and redeem Evil, although when necessary, he will smite it down with righteous fury. After all, he is a Paladin devoted to Ilmater, the Martyr.

Statistics (Not final, nor as important as the story) [They also may seem to be quite good, and they are - Paladins, IMO, should be made of sterner stuff than common adventurers]

Raine
Human (NOTE: possibly, Half Elven, or Half Drow)

Alignment: Lawful Evil
Patron Deity: (Undecided, Possibly Gargauth, Loviatar, or Shar. Possibly Vhaeraun if Half Drow)
Age: 19
Personality: Power is what is important. Emotions are for the weak. In the darkness of evil, there is peace from the hounds of the past. Seek the peace, seek the power.

Grim and Raine are brothers, although they are not twins. Both became paladins devoted to different Lords, though linked - Grim chose Ilmater and his compassion, while Raine chose Tyr, for his justice.

Their past is somewhat tragic, though not in any strange fashion - Their mother died giving birth to Raine, and their father was a Paladin devoted to Tyr, an officer of the Purple Dragon Knights of Cormyr. He fell in battle protecting the Alzhoun from an assassination attempt, and was given a hero's funeral. His children, orphans, were raised by the State, and ultimately decided to follow in their father's footsteps.

However, Raine was not "up to the task" of being a paladin - although he tried, and for a time, succeeded, he became too zealous in the pursuit of "Justice," killing needlessly, and even slaughtering those prisoners who had surrendered. And so he fell from grace.

I don't want to tell the entire story here, obviously, but there it is.

Erk? Grim is just a name I chose out of the Forgotten Realms Campaign Setting...

I had to repost. I told my lady (who is too lazy to get her own pass for this board) about this mod idea, and she was absolutley enchanted with the idea. I was asked to post "If for no other reason, make this mod so I can play it".

Really.... secretaries get paid normally.

You should try to co-ordinate that with igi. I've heard he's fond of making things disappear.

Alright, well, I have begun work on the dialogues for Grim.

Still am not sure which race to make Raine - I like the idea of a bastard half-drow because there's a lot of potential for good story there. (Anyone remember Tanis Half-Elven from Krynn? Yeah.)

But I also understand the despisal of all things drow. I myself love drow, but not to the extent that I would consider myself a fanboy - drow are cool. Nothing more. So I dont really have any problems with making him a standard Half Elf (same basic plot about his conception) or full human (can go either way, really - he and Grim could be full brothers, or half.)

As I said before, I'm very much new to modding, so I'm still learning exactly what to do. So that means I'm sure it will take awhile before there's anything solid.

Make them both Humans and full twins.

I'm having a tough decision on that, to be honest. On the one hand, I really like the idea of them being half brothers, yet Grim treating Raine as his full blood. It's a way to show that the paladin truly has compassion and love for his wayward brother.

On the other, I also love the idea of them actually being fully twins, a yin and a yang. If I go the twin route, I doubt they will be identical twins, though - probably fraternal. (It would be very confusing using the same portrait for both of them! )

Actually, the identical twin idea has merit. they WOULDN'T have the SAME portrait, but different... but it'd be kinda cool if, say, both were based on the same model?

yeah, even if identical, the pose, backround and equipment of their portrait would be very different. plus they could have varying hair length/style and one could have a scar or two the other doesn't.

Identical is also an interesting idea, as I think about it. I'll have to put some more thought into what exactly the brothers' relationship is, what it was, and what it will be.

But I love having people make suggestions and give opinions on this - it helps me by giving me ideas that I may not have otherwise had. So Thanks.

I think that the topic "family bonds come first" would actually be strengthened by making the actual bloodline bonds weaker. I'd go with half-brothers, since this will make how the brothers treat their relationship more emphasized.

See, that was my original thought - if they are not full brothers, then the way they treat each other becomes so very much more important. Does Grim treat Raine as his full blood family? Does Raine treat Grim that way?

Although Twins has merit as well - They could be inexplicably drawn to each other, despite their seemingly opposite natures.

Either way is good, but each way changes the story significantly.

I have decided a few things.

I want this mod to fix some of the "problems" I've had with the original Baldur's Gate SOA. Namely, Minsc.

Minsc's plot is left, for me, somewhat unresolved. Yes, he gains vengeance for Dynaheir's death. But I've always wanted more.

My answer is Grim. The paladin will befriend the Big Lug, and help him through his grief. (Ultimately, I'd also like him to be able to convince Minsc to drop out of his rages as well, like Keldorn.)

Also, I may have a strong relationship (but probably not a romance) between Grim and Nalia, who strikes me as, well...a kindred soul. She endeavors to aid those less fortunate, as does Grim. I see a relationship of mutual respect.

Raine will be contemptuous of most, if not all, of the good characters. He'll probably get along well with Viconia, even if she doesn't like him. Edwin, who shares a similar lust for power, may become a somewhat friend (Though such would take quite awhile).
