Need help getting BGT to work
#1
Posted 11 June 2005 - 12:05 PM
I've got BG1+TosSC, BG2+ToB, and the most recent patches for both.
All I wanna do is play the series from beginning to end. I'll do the Big Picture thing in the future, when I've got more hard drive space.
Thanks for any help you can provide.

You might wanna try it out :
BGTMenu 1
or try this one if the other didn't work (remember to uninstall first , simply run setup and [U]ninstall) :
BGTMenu 2
IWD in BG2 mod appears to be called Never Ending Journey (NEJ).
If you want to try out bgt-weidu use this one (use SETUP-PREP , it should autostart setup-main after preparing) :
BGT-WeiDU 0.94b fixed 2.2
And use this baldurdash patch after installing it :
Baldurdash for BGT-WeiDU 0.94b fixed 2.2
my personal install order is :
Install BG1+Totsc + Patch 5512 (dont patch if you use the 3CD version)
Install BG2+ToB + Patch 26498
Install Baldurdash for BG2+ToB Get it here (Yes this one is different from the BGT-Weidu baldurdash)
I then quickstart a character in both(bg1+2) to make sure the installs are working.
Then check to make sure you dont have any of your BG1+Totsc+BG2+ToB cds in your cd drive or mounted and put(mount) some other cd into it (any but the beforementioned will do).
Then extract bgt-weidu to your bg2 dir and use setup-bgt-prep.exe
Let it run and enter the full path to your BG1+totsc directory (I used C:\baldurs).
After it finishes extract the baldurdash for bgt-weidu package into your bg2 dir and set it up as well.
Then extract BGT-Menu 1 (or 2 if 1 isn't working) into your BG2 dir and install.
After that you should be set

(bgt-weidu is beta and will contain bugs etc, but I personally found it easier to use then the big package and are playing it atm.)

I personally use bgt menu for starting games in bgt-weidu.
You might wanna try it out :
BGTMenu 1
or try this one if the other didn't work (I use 2 for bgt-weidu_fixed2) :
BGTMenu 2
IWD in BG2 mod appears to be called Never Ending Journey (NEJ).
I'll give a rundown of how i got to my current position. I tried using the massive bgt_mk3_112 but that didn't give me any way to start the game at candlekeep.
Then I installed BGT094b-Install but that crashed after i created a character.
The first file you gave me had me end up in Saravok's dundgeon, and the game waited for and Imoen who never arrived.
Second file you gave me gave me the option of doing BG1, but it crashed after I created a character.
So, from where i stant it looks like you all are still working on the weidu version which is yet to be completed. Should I just wait for version 1.0 to come out?
Or, better yet, can I somehow use the BGT094b-Install and use that to start from the begining?

You might also have to reinstall (so I added a quick guide to plain bgt-weidu).
ofcourse if you want to use the big package (mk2 etc) you should follow those guides

Should the bgt_mk3_112 not work as is? That's what I thought when I recommended it to someone, hope I'm not wrong. The option for Baldur's Gate should be where the tutorial option used to be in Shadows of Amn under new game. It did work for me but I followed the BP-BGT-Nej instructions so there's rather more in it.I'll give a rundown of how i got to my current position. I tried using the massive bgt_mk3_112 but that didn't give me any way to start the game at candlekeep.

You posted two baldurdash fixes. Do I use both?

the other is for bgt-weidu fixed2.2.
also don't forget to add
Debug Mode=1
into your baldur.ini underneath [Program Options] and
Cheats=1
Force Dialog Pause=1
into your baldur.ini underneath [Game Options]
It will save you some trouble (as in no enemies attacking during dialogs)

(I personally only added Force Dialog Pause=1 underneath [Game Options] and let the others slide , not sure why the mod would need them tbh , perhaps a dev would shed some light

Just changed 2.1 to 2.2 :
AR0602.BAF -- changed imoen6 to imoen10 (you can change it yourself with NI in 2.1)

BGT-WeiDU will not work with a BP autoinstaller, and if you start in Irenicus' dungeon in bgt_mk_112 then it usually means you haven't configured the game and run the game at least once (starting a new game) before installing BP.

Sadly those are dead links. All four of them. Anywhere else we can download these? I've had the same problem. Always starting in Johnny's dungeon, and no option to begin at Candlekeep.
I'd really love to try out your installation instructions, Gekker, as I'm at my wits end trying to install BGT, but those four links don't work.

This is what i have written down:
Install BGI&TotSC then patch
Install BGII&ToB then patch
Extract SoS-WeiDUv102.rar to BGII directory
Install SoS (this actually doesn't work at the moment because of a parse error)(fixed by installing SoS first)
Extract TDD_weiduv1.zip to BGII directory
Extract TDDweidu1to2patch-fixed.zip to BGII directory (overwrite existing)
Install TDD
Install TSv60 or above
Install NeJ v2.1b or above
Install BGT-WeiDU 0.99 BETA or above
Install BPv170 (this isn't released, but you don't have to have it)
Install DSotSC v1.60 or above
Install NtotSC v1.20 or above
Install Secret of Bonehill v1.92 or above
Install Baldurdash fixpack (after mods)
Install Revised BP-BGT Worldmap v3b or above
This is all getting a bit confusing, would someone be kind enough to post an install guide and pin it up like with the old bp-bgt.

If you do not use Win9x/ME look at my sig perhaps. But if you are not using WeiDU version then someone else may have a better idea.
Many thanks, Ascension. I'll give that a try. I'll have to uninstall BG2 and ToB AGAIN before I do of course, so it may take a while. *Sigh*
So, may I ask, does this version (0.99b) remove the need for the Baldurdash-Weidu patch AND the BGTMenu files?
You see, I tried a second installation last night, running V.0.94b, but of course I had no access to the aforementioned two files. Now, I THOUGHT at first that it had all worked fine, and I was able to a create a character and begin my game...
...I got that movie with that guy being thrown off of a building(annoying that you can't skip it by pressing Space or Return), and it then led into the very familiar bit of speech, "Nestled atop the clifftops" etc.
...Needless to say, we've all heard that bit of narrative many many times, so I clicked "done" in order to skip it, happy at least that the BG2 engne was running the RIGHT adventure - ie. BG1 - but no sooner had I done this than the game crashed back to the desktop.
Now, the error it gave me... I do not recall all the precise numbers, but it simply said something like the "memory could not be "written"". I am led to understand that this is a common error associated ONLY with Windows XP, which, you may deduce correctly, I am indeed running.
Was this perchance a common error with BGT on Windows XP? Is that an error which the v.0.99b installer is designed to eliminate?
Or, and I shudder to ask this, might I have done something else wrong? As I say, my copies of BG1 and BG2 were completely clean of all other mods, and only patched in accordance with Gekker's little turorial, so I do not see if or where I could've gone wrong, except that I was of course unable to apply the Baldurdash-Weidu patch and BGTMenu files.
Just wondering? Is the "could not be written" error common on Windows XP?

No. Baldurdash-WeiDU is a general BG2 contents patch. So as soon as both mods use the same (read - BG2) set of resources it will affect BGT part more or less...
But all BG1-specific fixes are already included into BGT-WeiDU.

Ooops. My apologies. That was actually a type-o there, in the section of my post which you've quoted King-Diamond. What I MEANT to ask was does v.0.99 remove the need for the Baldurdash-BGT patch. Ie. the one recomended by Gekker, but which I couldn't retrieve because it's on the end of a dead link(or rather, it isn't).
ANYWAY....
I've followed your lead, Ascension64, and re-installed the whole lot, using the Weidu-mod that was linked in your sig, and I do believe it has all worked ok! Yayyy! I've created a quickie, sort of "throwaway" fighter(fighters are quickest to roll up), and he's even now standing around in Candlekeep, talking to tutors. Woohooo!! No crash!!!
Thanks EVER so much for your help, everybody.
