So last night I managed to get past the cutscene problem in Umar Hills Inn by copying my mpsavedgame to singleplayer mode and initiating the cutscene in singleplayer. After getting through the dialog with Gauis and Kothonos everything seemed to be working fine. Copied game back to multiplayer and saved just outside the inn before talking to Kothonos to leave for Soubar.

Only problem is now the stutter is back and in full effect :(

By the time I pick up Charlotte its as bad as if I had 2 containers in group on a PC, if that makes any sense. Actually seems to get worse with her in group.

I have no containers, my Baldur.bcs file hasnt changed in size, and I was running BG without my antivirus on or being connected to the net. It is a very definite stutter, I think its exactly every second it happens....

:crying:

**It seems to be present in my save game before going to Umar with the scrolls but just barely. I did stash some stuff in some chests in the Planar Sphere (and in a couple of other non player containers), wondering if those containers work similar/the same as containers that can be carried by group? The stutter is still there if I remove those items from the Planar Sphere chests but maybe is a bit less perceptible, is hard to tell.

PS -current WeiDu log under Bug Report list post in this forum.

If you haven't finished Planar Sphere yet, try to fuel furnaces with coal. It helped me with stutter.

Nope finished Planar Sphere and have it as a stronghold. Stashed stuff in some chests there because if I use any player carried containers, I start getting stutter. Like a clock. It seems to be in proportion to how many containers im using and how much stuff is stored in those containers. At least at first, once I actually got through the dinner cutscene in Umar Hills it seemed to be a bit worse. But not sure if thats something to do with SoS content or because by this time ive dropped an item here and there in a few containers ive come across in dungeons etc (chest etc).

one container being used: on player and *possibly* anywhere in game (chests etc) = very little stutter, practically almost imperceptible unless you really look for it

two containers being used: noticeable stutter, really obvious if you just scroll across an area via mouse look, it lags like an analog every ~second
-if those containers have much in them the stutter becomes even more exaggerated

tested this with two container after emerging from the Irenicus dungeon last week when the stutter begin; buy two containers = noticeable stutter, but if I dropped the first two containers after buying them the stutter would disappear, pick em up the stutter returned, drop em again the stutter disappeared, didnt even have anything in them, so I just tried to avoid using containers period as its obviously linked somehow. Worked fine for a while. At least until I got into SoS content. After leaving Umar and getting Charlotte into group = noticeable stutter. Not sure exactly what caused that, no real change in container use - cept a few non party containers.

I was trying to play through the second militia quest in SoS progression after getting to Soubar tonight. Of course when you undertake the quest you have to stash all yer stuff before being outfit and given your first mission. I stashed most of my stuff in a chest in a nearby building, then some in the bag of holding the major gave me = increase in lag stutter, from noticeable to very noticeable.

But after I get the second bag of holding (with a bunch of healing potions etc) from the major for the second mission, where you fight the bandits on a farmstead area and the child/lone survivor Charlie appears (is supposed to) at the end, then the stutter starts to get severe. Like every second it is stalling for ehhh .3 -.5 of a second. Almost like it wants to pause every second. So at this time I have 3+ containers being used, 2 of them filled with a considerable amount of stuff - no stacked arrows/ranged ammo either, just items/potions/few scrolls.

Interestingly enough, after getting my butt handed to me a couple times in the second mission and having to reload, the longswords/default swords you get from the major upon being outfitted disappeared during a load. And they never came back! Successive reloads didnt return the swords, so I went and grabbed some of my own weapons out of the storage chest.

So. At this point. I managed to kill the bandit horde in the second mission, but I cant get Charlie to appear. Ive searched all the bandit corpses I could find/searched the whole area but no Charlie spawn, the guard npc guy that came with me here doesnt reply, and thus im stuck; i saw this was a problem for someone else also but now cant find the post again. And the stutter is getting to the point where its not enjoyable to play, I actually have to click commands between *stutters* and if timed wrong the command is missed - as the interface doesnt respond while the stutter is in effect.

So, thats about it for me on that particular game.

Is too bad the missions look like fun.

Strangely enough, recently I played through BGI and TotSC/DSotSC on a BGT1.01 install. Main PC had at least 4 containers including two bags of holding on him at all times through most of the game. Filled near full for most of the game. I dont remember having a stutter anything like this while playing through that, in its entirety. Although there may have been some lag. I remember being surprised at how smooth BP ran when I first started BGII in the Irenicus dungeon - before getting any containers.

One thing I remember seeing somewhere lately was that SoS uses alot of globals (yes I have a bad memory).

I am no modder, but the stutter effect from the containers and the global settings in SoS may point at something of the problem, as it doesnt seem to care whether im using a container carried in my party or not. No idea how all that stuff works.

I may try running a singleplayer game tho, will see, since mpSoS seems problematic, or just not doing the SoS content/uninstalling it. Im guessing uninstalling it will hoop my game bigtime?

Also tried running BP on minimun hardware settings, no effect on stutter. PC is a P4 with 1.6ghz and 1gig PCI ram, ATI radeon 8500.

I think you have/had something in your invantory that there is a check for (likely something from SoS) and even that it is likely gone the check keeps running.

If I buy two containers after leaving Irenicus dungeon at the start of the game it starts doing it, there doesnt even have to be anything in the containers. At that point I would not possibly have anything specifically from SoS in my inventory, that I know of. I do remember seeing a couple (2 or 3) new items in the Irenicus dungeon, but no idea what mod they are from as ive never played any of the BP mods before.

But yeah....something like that.

can you do an experiment for me, zachD? can you start a singleplayer game, and take it at least as far as waukeen's promenade (and prefereably to the start of chapter 2) and report back on yr stutter situation?

Ahem, well ill be damned (for playing multiplayer).

Started a single player game, finished Irenicus' dungeon, bought three containers in Waukeen's Promenade and I AM NOT SEEING A STUTTER. Have 10 scrolls in one scroll case. Will continue playing in a ways before I am certain its not there, but its not atm. Off to go ransack some houses and fill up my containers :)

Incidently, I did pull in one of my own PCs in addition to the main PC that I started the single player game with, with about a dozen items. Doesnt seem to be affecting anything.

Yep, did a bit of that to get my extra warrior into singleplayer game.

Actually started in singleplayer, ran intro, got Imoen, saved, copied save to mplayer, imported extra warrior into mplayer game, saved, copied that mplayer save back into singleplayer game.

But, once the stutter was at a noticeable lvl in my old mplayer games it seemed to transfer over into the singleplayer game. Not absolutely sure of that, but I think it did when I copied mplayer save to singleplayer - to get through the Umar Hills cutscene problem. After I got through cutscene in Umar Hills Inn and copied it back into mplayer it seemed worse.

Currently have played a ways into chapter two on new singleplayer game, have 5 containers (2 gem bags, 3 scroll cases) - no noticeable stutter, even when three of the containers are near full. Actually overall performance of singleplayer game seems a bit smoother in general. Going to continue playing this game in singleplayer.

Interested to see what happens when I get to Soubar this time.

Wondering if the stutter was as much a problem with BPv1.76 also.

Knew that was too easy.

Chap2, end of first day, noticed it in the docks district after doing Jaheira's curse quest and doing some of Maevars missions. Dropped a couple scroll cases after emptying them out and its not really perceptible again.

Other thing I notice about singleplayer is the interface responds quicker, specifically after dialog pauses. In multiplayer I used to chain push the space bar at times when it was coming out of dialog sequences because it wouldnt pause for a second or two, allowing the game opponents to get a bit of a jump on me in battle at times. It responds instantly now soon as the dialogs are done /end dialog is pushed.

Just got to Soubar - CTD in singleplayer. Tried twice to make sure, CTD both times. When I zone in from Chionthar River area it saves, loads area, and as soon as area comes up CTD.

No real stutter yet before I zoned in (at least after dropping a couple scroll cases in the docks). Yesterday in multiplayer game I had no problems zoning into Soubar.... So, I copied my singleplayer savedgame into mplayer folder and guess what? No CTD when entering Soubar in multiplayer mode, but the stutter is in full effect. Now that I have zoned *safely* into Soubar, I copied savedgame from mplayer back into singleplayer game and guess what? Soubar loaded fine, and no real perceptible stutter....

Personally, I think it has everything to do with the smaller incompatible mods, or mods that are incompatible with one another.

With my 7/03 install, I had a stutter that didn't occur until right when I accepted the Dragon Quest in DSotSC. With my 7/12 install I just completed the DSotSC Dragon Quest, and the stutter has yet to appear (crossing fingers).

Take a look at the 2 WeiDU logs and compare them. I bet the answer is there.

Er what two WeiDu logs are you referring to? Mycurrent install hasnt changed...

Only mods I have are:

SoS, TDD, TS and FR/RoV and some g3bg2tweaks. Very few tweaks. Unlimited stacking and multiple strongholds via g3bg2tweaks.

No NPC mods, no kits, no extra nothing.

Personally im coming to the point where I just dont understand how you guys can play through these mods, with all the problems im encountering and the frustration its just not enjoyable.

Been screwing around in Soubar all day now. Finished second mission and was promoted to sargent, arrested all 10 Triel villagers in the inn brawl, killed bandits in town again, got orders from major to train the Triel villagers, recruited them for training, all 10, go to SW area off Soubar to train them and the Soubar officer that is there tells me his shift is over and to meet me in an inn for a drink on him, and he will be back in the morning. Spent about three hours now trying to find him. Searched every building in town cant find him, he doesnt appear back in the drilling area where there is supposed to be a drill sargent. Walkthrough says nothing about this, only that there is a drill sargent in the area where the Triel recruits appear.

Any idea where this guy is supposed to appear in town if this is actually working properly?

PS no perceptible stutter atm.

I started to notice a stutter after coming back from Nej2. A couple of the npcs had it, so I dumped the bag of holding and kept the yeti bag. I did have ease of use bottomless containers though, and remember reading somewhere that lots of items/arrows can slow everything. A chapter or so later it started again and everyone but my main character had it. Dumped stuff again and didn't notice for a while, but everyone except Edwin had boots of speed.

After Ed/edwina change he definitely staggered, and even dropping all bags/containers didn't do anything. However I had a bunch of npc mods (tashia, keto, kelsey, sola, kova and kiyone) that had a ton of variables/checks which again I read slows things down. It was like the whole party was drunk. Along with some other problems it finally made me reinstall.

Do you have ease and/or a lot of npcs? Can't comment on SOS, haven't made it that far.

Nope, I only installed the basic mega mods for use with BP really. FR/RoV and some tweaks also but that was it.

Typcially had 2-3 PCs and 3-4 NPCs in group.

No overt stutter atm in my game in singleplayer, but if I copy it to multiplayer it stutters bigtime. And even in singleplayer if I add too many containers it seems to start - not completely sure on that. Last night when I got home and loaded my game while in the docks district I noticed it stuttering, and I didnt remember it stuttering before i saved and shut it down earlier. So I dropped a couple scroll cases and it stopped/became basically imperceptible. Im betting its still there just not long enough for me to be able to see it.

I specifically avoided NeJ in BP install because of all the problems I was seeing with it on the boards, not to mention it makes the install more complicated. And I am ignorant when it comes to the technical workings of this stuff.

PS im seeing a huge number of bugs in SoS content, yer gunna have lots of fun when you get there.

Aint just me.

Maybe I dont have enough mods installed haha.

The stutter effect is present in a number of posts lately, with installs of the newest versions iirc.

I also had no real problems playing through BG1 btw; no stutter at all, lots and lots of crap in containers. Only had basic BGT stuff for that though and no BP stuff.

BGII is another story completely. And my install is pretty basic compared to what most of the others here are doing.

The SoS content ive seen thus far seems particularly buggy, I dont see SoS anywhere on your WeiDu list.

The problems im having are purely BGII and BP component related, or so it seems. And from what youre saying you didnt progress into that content.

Guess we can partially blame that on computers themselves.

I used to have a different PC 5 years back (guess everyone used), and my video card was great (cant remember the exact model, was a vodoo), it played even games that were very heavy at that time (like unreal tournament), but somehow my card would refuse to play BG2 right, I tried everything but there was always a stutter going on, one day I "borrowed" a nvidia from a friend of mine, and even though his card was worse than mine, at least bg would play flawlessly on it.

Not that I know anything about computers, but its know that some softwares have problems with some hardwares, and bg is becoming a fairly old, unsuported game.

Try to follow some simple rules:

1- Never install a new, "fresh" mod, almost sure it will have bugs, leave these mods to people with more knowledge about editing the game files, in some months (sadly in some cases years, and in some cases never) the mod will be ok.

2- Try to stick with the mods that everyone knows about, there are some mods that people bring up here on their weidu log and most people have never heard about that mod in particular.

3- When possible, avoid installing mods that heavily "modify" features that are already in the game, cause most mods will expect these features to be the traditional ones, and not "modified" ones.

4- This one is very personal, but avoid BG + BG2 + NEJ, if you going this way you're stepping on the edge. I dunno why fuse both games if it can lead to whole lot of problems. Pressing quit on a menu and starting a different .exe seems much safer. And if you're going to NEJ and still planning to keep your bg2 game after returning as well, then I dont think you ever planned your BG2 game to make all that much sense anyway. But this is just personal opinion so spit on it :) but stay tuned with 1 and 2 & 3.

Also big weidu log here, and I've only found 2 stutters to this day, the first one was due to a whole mess with scripts from a mod and the other one I made myself while editing bcs :whistling:

Yeah I know the hardware/software can be temperamental.

In my case what makes me think its not the hardware is that I recently played through a BGI - BGT1.01 (with mostly basic components) install with virtually no problems, no lag stutter, no CTDs, no BP components, and no real game destroying bugs at all. On that install all I did was finish BGI content.

Now on current install (only BGII and related components) with BPv1.77, starting from Irenicus dungeon, I still have only the basic BP components really - SoS, TDD, TS, FR/RoV and a few tweaks (no NeJ), and the latest versions of those components. The only real common denominators here that I can see between me and the others having similar problems is BPv1.77, SoS1.11, TDD1.11 and TS 6.04.01. Again, the core components for BP. And the others having stutter problems are seeing em before SoS content.

So..., no problems during first BGT install/BGI game content, but I cant say that for this install with BP and SoS content, furthermore:

1. by "fresh" do you mean completely unleased before? or the latest versions of the current mods..., cause im not using any *new* mods, just the latest released versions of well known and played ones

2. im not using any mods no one knows about

3. this is a recently fresh install and I havent changed any components/added/removed anything since ive started posting here in BP forum/or this current install

4. newbie me totally agrees

Currently no perceptible stutter in my singleplayer game, just another seeming impass withen SoS content.

As stated before I am no modder, but my experience suggests something is definitely wrong with mplayer (ns), and it may possibly be related to SoS as im having ALOT of problems in SoS content.

I played all though BG1 and some of NeJ part1 with lots of containers full tons of stuff (I think horred would call it a junkshop) and little bugs and no stutter with a highest graphics. I am not sure why you are haveing problems, but I don't want others to think this is unplayable.

I would bet it's an incompatibility between what you have installed, what I installed on 07/03, and either Ajocmod, Azenmod, Battles, or COM Encounters. They're all gone, and so is the stutter.

It takes a village...
