Edwin disappears

First, let me say that BGT so far has been an awesome mod; I've had immense fun playing it.

I'm encountering a problem with Edwin in BGII. After getting the necessary papers from Renal and proceeding to Mae'Var's guildhall then up to see Edwin on the third floor, he visible momentarily then quickly disppears. He is around long enough for me to pause to try to initiate dialog, but all I get is the "character appears busy" response. Funny thing, though, even after he's disappeared Detect Evil still lists him. On the other hand, casting an area of effect spell (say, Fireball) centred on where he was doesn't cause any damage to him.

I'm not sure if they're relevent, but the globals I could find for Edwin are
EDWINABANDONED = 1
EDWINALIVE = 1
SPRITE_IS_DEADEDWIN = 0

I've tried setting the abandoned variable to 0 before seeing Edwin but it doesn't seem to have had an effect.

Hopefully there's a simple explanation and an even simpler fix; I'd hate to give up Edwin in my party. Thanks in advance for your help! :)

In both cases, the blocks are straight from a standard BG2:SoA game. Have any of the present GLOBALs gone mishap?

I think the globals must have self-destructed somewhere along the line. I restored them from a known-good configuration (with a bit of minor tweaking to keep the state consistent) and everything seemed to work all right. Out of curiosity, I also tried a reinstall -- strangely, that seemed to fix things as well (though in this case I think my various remedies may have overlapped; I lost track of everything I fiddled with).

Regardless, all is well now. Thanks for the response and help. :)

I also ran into this problem using a new Big World installation.

I solved it by just spawning "Edwin" in another area (Where the scripts mentioned above aren't causing him to de-spawn instantly..) and then I could go on as usual :)
