How to PreBPOverBiff & BPEndBiff?

Two steps in the Install Instructions, baffle me:

58. Run a biffing routine of your override directory at this point if you wish (PreBPOverBiff).
63. Run an override biffer routine (BPEndBiff) at this point if you choose to clean up your override directory again.

I don't know how to "biff", although I have looked at the text in the BoneHill biffer but that doesn't help.

There may be instructions on how to do that but after taking all evening to find not only all the files but the correct ones and the right versions too and which sites to get them from, my eyes are too tired to wade through the whole forum :wacko:

I've had the complete Baldur's Gate collection for years but haven't got around to playing it yet because I want to experience the who story complete with all the mods that are compatible with each other. I check back every 6-12 months on various modding sites and at the moment, this all-in-one appears to be the biggest (shame about NEJ though, can't find the older version and not sure if it would even work with this).

If, after I've installed and followed the instructions to the letter, can I then burn the enter directory onto a dual-layered dvd so that I don't have to go through the whole procedure again. Just install the 2 games, the expansion packs and patches, then paste the whole contents of the dvd I burnt. Would that work? Of course, this would require final versions of every mod before I commit myself. Will that ever happen? :ph34r:

These two steps should have been explicitly marked as Optional. Terms like "if you wish" and "if you choose" imply Optional, but are too vague.

Don't sweat it.

Assuming your question is not rhetorical...
You could do that. Just don't add any other mods, elsewise you'll be in trouble.
One prob though: how will you be sure that the install really works into you play it through?

With "other mods", I assume you mean ones that haven't been released yet. And there's always a chance that they'll get added to the mega install in the future. By that time, there'll be other mods in the pipeline :doh:

please don't biff anything manually unless you know you've got a problem and that biffing will solve that problem. it's just making a world of pain for yrself otherwise.

as to burning a dvd: yes, you can install BGII/ BP/ BP+BGT/ etc, then burn the contents to dvd. this works fine; it's what i always do - make an install that has what i want in it on my work machine, briefly test it to make sure it works (ie, doesn't crash on opening or starting a new game) and then burn the BGII directory to dvd, delete the copy from my work machine, and copy the contents of the dvd to my laptop. it works perfectly.

as for 'final versions', don't bother waiting. what you want are 'stable enough' versions - even TOB, with only the official patch installed, is broken in an enormous number of ways, and yet we happily install this with no qualms. all of the components of a BP install are, IMO, as stable as a vanilla patched TOB install, so i wouldn't see any need to wait.

there are new versions of BP (v178) and the worldmap (v6.4) around the corner, but whether that corner is the end of october, the end of december, or some RtW-style never-never-land depends upon real life issues. when these new versions come out, just burn a new dvd - it's what i'll be doing.
