Hi there,

I recently started playing BG1 as I have not played the first BG at all ( just BG2+ToB ), anyway I did mega installation and when I was doing the quest for Firebead Elvenhair my game crushes after giving the scroll back to him, it happens when he casts a spell and than boom, any1 know a workaround with this problem, reinstall, finish the quest with CLUA or anything, I just want to continue on with the game without leaving any quests open -.- what can I say, I'm always doing every single quest possible so ;)

Thanks, and hope someone will actually look into this.

Aff, it's me again, this time I have advanced much into the game, though not the way I hoped for, cause Thalantyr doesn't upgrade anything for me and can't get any dialog option to complete the quest about the chicken either...what is more frustrating is now I get this random errors and 1 particular critical error that made me stop and come here asking for help again :(

If this time my wiedu order isn't correct, what should I do ffs, I have done 10 reinstallations until I work it out...and now this.

Since you're already into the game, let's hope you can get help without re-installing.

The error says that a BAM file is corrupted. Of course the error doesn't tell which file, and there are hundreds of BAM files.

Is your party carrying any items made by Thalantyr? If so, put them in a chest or drawer or barrel, where you can find them later, and then see if you can play without errors. Hopefully this will work, meaning there is something wrong with those items, or at least the bam part of those items.

Also, tell us if you're comfortable using Near Infinity or DLCTEP. (If you are not, then things do not look too good... )

I'm not using any Thalantyr items ( from his shop that is, since he can't upgrade anything although I have the mod ). so that part with dropping them is out of the question...

This error happens when I'm doing this battle with 2 fighters and 2 or 3 mages in the Cloakwood Mines and the battle goes on for 1-2 mins for sure than suddenly this error happens. I'm guessing it's an item there or sth that the mages or fighters are trying to use ( not sure though ).

Yes, I'm well aware and comfortable of using DLTCEP or Near Infinity, in one hand because it is a must I suppose and in the other because I have been messing up with these before I had BGT installation ( that is BG2+ToB only w/o mods ).

Any chance we could shift this topic to the Mega Mod Help forum? It rightfully belongs there.

As for the issue, you could work out who the casters are, which spells the mages are using, and check the BAMs that the spells use (on the pretext that it is some spell BAM gone wrong, of course).

No problem with that, move the thread where it belongs.

As for the checking of the mages, I have no idea how to do that, so someone (if that's not a problem) could explain to me (in just a few words) how to do it, I would very much appreciated it. :)

Alternatively, a link to a guide is also helpful, I could read -.-

The map where the fight occurs, press 'X' key to learn the name of the map, e.g. AR1234

Then go into one of the game editors and look for the script for the map, e.g. AR1234.BCS
In there should be code about the people you're fighting. Discover which of these are the spellcasters, look for their names, which will be in-between quotes.

Now take the names and look for name.CRE. Go to that file, then learn which scripts (BCS files) that creature is using. In the scripts will list which spells are being used.

Finally, you can look at each spell file and check the BAM.

Sounds difficult but is very easy once you actually follow the steps.

You should also look at the weapons that the creatures are using, as one of your mods may have given them something that is corrupted. Follow steps above just look for the ITM files that the creature is using.

If you are game, and would like to do so at your own peril (make sure you backup any files you change!), you could alter the CREs so they stop using scripts, or even delete some of the spells they have, and then re-run the battle to work out what stops the crashing.

Well it is in AR8600 and the two mages that I've encountered are Kysus and Rezdan...but I still don't know what to do with them. -.-

Guess I have to reinstall again, but I doubt here that I will be able to import my char as it is already critically errorized. Damn I thought I would avoid any "at your own peril" types of chores editing the game :)

Btw, if you haven't (and you most certainly haven't encountered this problem ), I wonder what is causing it ? Some of my mods ? Maybe you have a hunch which ones ?

Second Edit: Yes thanks Azazello, I know its easy to do those things and I have done it before, but got no clue what to change, or should I just guess ?

I think you're running into the bug that people have reported, when creatures cast Protection from Fire. It hasn't been pinned down yet, but it *seems* connected to g3Fixpack.

You could do as A64 suggested, change the Class script and mayhaps the Default to some other script. Or you could Cntrl-Y both those characters as soon as you start the fight: this will prevent them from using the script.

Ok, I will try to remove some of those scripts.
