I agree that there was way more hope in Dreamfall, but the cliffhangers had me dying.
But y'know, this doesn't REALLY stop a chance for KotOR3 (even though it's like 0.00001% chance of it ever happening), because we don't know 1. If people followed them to the Unknown Regions, say, Carth got tired of waiting, 2. There's always their adventures in the Unknown Regions to be acknowledged.
Oh well. If nothing else, there's this wonderful thing called mods.

Funny you should mention Dreamfall, I'm playing the first game now.

But God Almighty, have you seen what's happened since?
Master of the house? Isn't worth me spit!

Cunning little brain, regular Voltaire
Thinks he's quite a lover but there's not much there
What a cruel trick of nature landed me with such a louse
God knows how I've lasted living with this bastard in the house!

If the blame lays anywhere it's with LucasArts. Yes, Obsidian's plan for the game was too ambitious to be completed within the deadline so some stuff (the droid planet, for example) would likely not have made it into the final version anyway. However, LA decided it would be a really good idea to rush them to get it out in time for Christmas, and thus we're left with a very tatty ending indeed. I actually really like the game right up until the Ravager. After that, it degenerates. I've played it through three times now and the last time left me so depressed I decided not to play again (at least, unless Team Gizka or some other mod team get around to restoring at least some of the cut content).
I would seriously hope there's a KotOR III at some point in the future, though - afterall, we've got Fallout 3 this year, after God knows how many years of waiting.
If not, Bioware were banging on about how SW:TOR was different from other MMORPGs because of the story content - it's feasible they will reveal Revan and Exile's fate through scenarios or somesuch. (Still, I'd MUCH prefer KotOR III).

Here's a vid with some people from BioWare/LA talking about TOR.
Being in the minority here of people who liked KotOR and don't have a problem with monthly fees in MMOs, I'm about as excited about this as I would be about a BioWare KotOR 3 announcement - this is new territory and has the potential to be huge.
Re: the community - yeah, that could be a problem. Hopefully it will not be as whiny as I expect it will be, or that BioWare will not let it influence them in a big way. I saw a topic on the forum yesterday with people arguing about whether Jedi should be selectable at character creation.

I don't think you're in minority about KotOR - I, for one, love both KotOR games, and while they have lots of flaws they are awesome anyway.
Oh well. What happens will happen.
