Hello,

I did a clean install of BG1:Original Saga and BG2 SoA + TOB. Followed the PDF to the letter, and did a Tactics install. Everything seemed okay, I had to remove some mods because of conflicts, but none were major things. BG1 works, no problem. But when I go to create a new game in SoA or ToB, the load bar fills up about 1/3rd of the way, then crashes.

Uninstalled everything, had the BiG installer remove everything, and started over, same result :crying:

There's nothing in baldur.err except for the starting log line. Running Windows 7, Disabled UAC, running as admin, with and without compatibility mode, makes no difference.

Any ideas? The WEIDU log is kind of long obviously, but here it is if it helps: WEIDU log

Thank you gentleman!

Your WeiDU.log
Spoiler
Now, that's not exactly BiG World install, as you first of all do not have the BG2Fixpack... nor any other fixpacks. See, you removed way too many the essential mods to call it BWP install.

Of course it could be that something went totally off, and the WeiDU.log doesn't have the first mods, but it's a different thing. So if you have a file called 'BiG World Debug.txt', put it into an archive to make it smaller and upload it into the web, so we can read what happened in your install.

This is very bad :o There seems to be a WeiDU 18500 version included as a WeiDU.exe in some old mod archive, which, ehen extracted by the BWS, overwrites the 21300 WeiDU.exe from the Installpack (since it's extracted later)

We seriously need to hunt down which archive contains this 18500 WeiDU!!! :(

Well, erhm, it's error in the latest BWS, as the latest BWInstall.bat doesn't run the WeiDU.exe as a percussion to update the WeiDU.exe, they all don't get upgraded, and errors begin.

But since all I did was choose the tactics mod default, wouldn't that mean that every single person who runs the tactics mod would have had the same problem?

The Install.bat uses the WeiDU.exe present in the BGII-SoA folder and overwrites all the setup-*.exe's in that folder (like the biffmeister does for tisunpack/oggdecs :P) so if the WeiDU.exe is 18500, then all the setup's become 18500, making all the newer tp2 code give error buggies :D

But since all I did was choose the tactics mod default, wouldn't that mean that every single person who runs the tactics mod would have had the same problem?

Some people have reported this before, but they all had older versions of WeiDU (21100, 21200 etc) your's ... is 18500?? (I personally got this in the Expert install :) but I keep all my mods unpacked and ready for direct copy, so I manually update everything ;))

I see.

Umm.

So do I need to do this by hand then? :P Because that's...just probably not happening!

Weidu.exe is located in *drum-whirl* BDash 168. :D

By the way: Did you use the BWS?
If yes, there may have been an opened weidu doing its thing and denying the BWS to overwrite the file like it does otherwise.

Sweet...so if I start over, and manually exclude BDash 168 then... it should theoretically work?

and yes, I used BWS.

You just have to copy weidu\weidu.exe to weidu.exe and you are set.

That does not always contain the latest Weidu -- just have a look:
2.11 included in the Installpack vs 2.13 from Weidu-package.

You only need a warning and a little loop when replacing the weidu via BWS, that's the safest method if you use the BWS anyway.

Otherwise, you should just use a weidu-download and do the replacement by yourself. ;)

Current code
If FileExists($g_BG2Dir&'\WeiDU\Weidu.exe') Then
	GUICtrlSetData($g_UI_Static[6][2], _GetTR($Message, 'L3'))
	FileCopy($g_BG2Dir&'\WeiDU\Weidu.exe', $g_BG2Dir&'\WeiDU.exe', 1)
	;FileCopy($g_BG2Dir&'\WeiDU\Weidu.exe', $g_BG2Dir&'\BWS_Weidu.exe')
EndIf

Fictional code
If FileExists($g_BG2Dir&'\WeiDU\Weidu.exe') Then
	GUICtrlSetData($g_UI_Static[6][2], _GetTR($Message, 'L3'))

--> while loop starts here
	$test=FileCopy($g_BG2Dir&'\WeiDU\Weidu.exe', $g_BG2Dir&'\WeiDU.exe', 1)
--> if copy fails, "oh my gosh, copy error"-msg, continue looping
--> if copy succeeds, exit loop
--> while ends here

Else

--> "oh my gosh, no weidu"-msg + exit

EndIf

Maybe I'm not understanding. I downloaded the latest WeiDU (21300), and copied the WeiDU.exe, and pasted over the old WeiDU.exe that was in my SoA folder. Didn't seem to make a difference. It couldn't of been that easy could it? :P

After you restored a backup of your tob-installation.

TMW said he wanted to start over again, so I assumed he would do that anyway... ;)

Good news! SoA and ToB let me create a game, and doesn't crash!

Bad news. The display is all messed up: SCREENSHOT (No character portraits on the side, and the message box on the bottom of the screen is.. ugly.

Unfortunate news: After doing more than just importing a character in the The original Baldur's Gate series it appears that Big World didn't actually install anything into BG1.

My debug log for the mods says:
6. BIG BG1 MODS
[Setup-DSotSC.exe] WeiDU version 185
[Setup-NTotSC.exe] WeiDU version 185
[Setup-NTotSCv171.exe] WeiDU version 185
ETC ETC ETC.

So my newbie understanding is that WeiDU apparently messed up that install. When installing the BG1 mods, here's a short snippet of the errors it gives out.

Spoiler

So. I'm a bit frustrated right now, but I'm sure in a day or so I'll be back to trying to get this to work

Please attach a compressed BiG World Debug.txt to let us see your persona... err, I mean, to let us see what went wrong in your install :P Probably BGT didn't install this time :( (all those mods you showed are BGI mods)

More specifically, can you tell us what exactly you did in this install (different from the previous one :P)

ell, that usually happens when you first install the Widescreen mod, and then install a GUI system. So you might have messed something after the above WeiDU.log was printed that cheesed the GUI.
