Having some problems with ToBex so I had a mess with some of the setting to see what would happen.

Basically I can play BG using the BGMain.exe with no problems, in fact I think the only ctd I ever had was when leaving Candlekeep on an older BWP 8.3 install (I was getting annoyed with some of the setttings so re-installed with BWP 9.3). But when attempting to do the same with ToBexloader I found I was getting ctds all the time. I know that I can just use the BGMain... But I wanna use ToBex :crying:

Searched the forums. Copied my racetext.2da into the overide folder. That solved not seeing names at the character race selection screen. But it still crashed at the kit selection screen. Following advice given by Ascension64 to fellow "I wanna use ToBex" users I downloaded the latest visual c++ reader x86 (I have a 32-bit machine) and tried again... and... and... wait for it... it crashed :o

Couldn't find anymore advice so created a character using the standard BGMain.exe saved the character file reloaded with ToBexloader imported the character and I am now standing outside the Candlekeep Inn ready to buy a helmet.

Whilst wandering around I noticed something strange! Some animations had strange graphics (remember this is after installing visual c++) namely water features and smoking chimneys, and when these graphics occured my computer would ctd (and buzz and start to smoke a little... or was that me?)

I then looked at my video settings, on BGGraphic options I had 16-bit, on the ToBex.ini the settings I had were...

Brighten On Disable Brightest No3d Fix=1
VVC Alpha Rendering Crash Fix=1

This gave me...

Funny pixels.png

I then decided to disable both and then just enable one or the other. I found that the Brighten On Disable Brightest No3d Fix was causing the issue. Turning that off corrected the graphic... and stopped the ctds! So changing the ToBex.ini to...

Brighten On Disable Brightest No3d Fix=0
VVC Alpha Rendering Crash Fix=1 or 0

Gave me...

Better.png

I have got an okay computer so why not try the higher graphic settings available? Because Jarno and Dabus advise don't touch your graphic settings on a megamod. But this is for experimental purposes.
Changed to 3D accelerator and 32 bit pixels on the BGGraphic options. Changing the Tobex.ini to...

Brighten On Disable Brightest No3d Fix=1 or 0
VVC Alpha Rendering Crash Fix=1 or 0

Gave me...

Best.png

However it ran at a snails pace... Strangely it didn't when I ran from the BGMain.exe

I am going to run at 16-bit anyway as the differences are minimal to me with the brighten disabled. I will continue to test and report if it ctd.

I would however love to be able to see the Kits at start-up!

I would also love to know what Brighten On Disable Brightest No3d Fix does!?
And why does it go slow when the alpha rendering crash fix is applied?

And lastly before you ask I run Windows 7, I have 4GB of Ram and a T6400 @ 2.00GHz processor
This is my Weidu log...
Spoiler

Hope I have put this in the right place.

Keep up the good work Dabus, Leomar, Jarno, Ascension64 and all those other modders who keep giving to keep this game at the top! I love you guys

What GPU do you have(video card)? The 32bit should run OK as long as you disable the software acceleration from your video card... as that should be done by the "Default OpenGL Driver" as the result should be far better.

I did write the that you shouldn't mess around with the default settings... but generally that should mean the BGConfig.exe -> Gameplay's -> Miscellaneous -> AI Options -> Frame Rate needs to be the default 30 and the Speed Adjustment's to be what they are by default, the others have options that can be adjusted to once hearts content, so long as one takes consideration that they might improve or hinder the actions, as the two can really cheese the game really badly. Yeah, I should specify that a bit, but, but... but, I got lazy.

Well, after thinking I had found the solution... testing didn't go to plan still. Lots of random ctds on my system using ToBex. Especially when pressing the spacebar or entering and rentering a building.

The logs don't record anything but I do get this report from windows...

What it is trying to tell me I have not a clue... Oh well... This "I wanna use ToBex" will have to "not use ToBex" :crying:

Jarno my GPU is a Mobile intel® 4 series express chipset family with mobile intel® graphics media accelerator for mobile (latest available update). I can't turn my 3D accelerator off I haven't got the setting!

I was really hoping to get it working in time for the popes visit...

Did yo look at the link I gave, it has several solutions on how to turn it off. The Compatibility Administrator can do it simply, you just have to change the mentioned "bgmain2.exe" to be "BGMain.exe" and you can set it with those instructions... well, at least I think so.

But that's not your problem, this is:

Fault Module Name: ntdll.dll

And the net would suggest that you need this to fix it...

Oh dear... Nothing to do with ToBex. My installation is as buggy as a corpse in a heatwave. Lots of registry errors (500+!) all to do with files in my BG - SoA folder. Tried big world clean up, as reading the link showed that helps occasionally, but that failed to work! Used my norton registry fixer. No joy.

Lots of good advice on the link, I have downloaded the compatabilty application which I think was rather good to have anyway. It did speed things up. Still crashed though with ntdll.dll being the cause.

This was my first install when I tried to edit the big world batch file so I should have expected a few bugs!

So the prob is not video... but neither was it ToBex!

I am going to do a complete, complete, complete, reinstall. Not just using the Big World setup as I have messed around with the settings too much. Reinstall BG, TotSC, BG2 - SoA, ToB, Patches then BWSetup.

Going to use the ToB_Hacks for the spell scroller, the bit of ToBex I really want.

Never had a video issue with previous installs so I really should have realised then

Jarno, sorry for being a retard. Will let you know what happens. You are awesome for taking the time to help.

No need to be sorry, we and I are here to help you when you have questions, or at least we try to give you the answers we think are the right ones.
And people learn on their mistakes, I have made many and still do, not the same, hopefully, but still a lot of them, and that's one of the reasons I help people... that when I stop making them, I can play the perfect Megamod game with the perfect setup, and not have to think that, ouh cheese, I put this there and &%¤#... some of my mistakes. No you don't have to understand any of it.. it's not even tested for typies.
But essacencially, my FAQs for the Megamods is somewhat hopefully informative enought for most problems that one can run into. And it's prefered that you ask, when you run into problems... as that's how I formed all the FAQs for the Megamods.

My tip is used use TobEx version 0007. It looks like version 0008 is causing multiple problems.
