So between the threads on GoG, the installation information in the "BWP" download and the information here, I have come to the fact that the guides are vague at the very best and in accurate.

Can someone please explain to me, using GoG Windows 7 64, the correct, every single step of installation to do.

I have had about 10 different quotes/guides/answers all conflict.

1. What is the path you install it at? After waiting for the patch/update/extract/download its said I need to name it "BGII - SoA" - this is not listed in the BWP instructions, terrible to follow a mods guide and it does not comment on this.

2. Upon installation, launching the BWP setup, the update does not work at all and crashes. You have to decline it, go ahead and the get various errors about items not installed etc etc - afterwards you get the above to rename, which conflicts alot of information.

I am new to modding, but not a total "noob". This is not very "User friendly", ever for people playing on the basic settings from BWP to be honest.

Can a senior Mod make a guide that is flawless and accurate, with the correct information.

And yes, I have read various threads here, I have read as I said the "READ ME", the GOG thread and ALOT of information conflicts EG No mention of the Ini file in the READ ME from the installation instructions at all.

Easy, just read the whole of this thread, and then start the installation... and refer back to the info when you forget it.

But anyway, in megamoding the BG2 game, you should essentially install the game to the "C:\BWP\BGII - SoA" -folder, or where ever. But NOT into "C:\Program Files (x86)\Black Isle\BGII - SoA\" NOR to "C:\Program Files\Black Isle\BGII - SoA\" !!!
The other Infinity Engine games neither should be installed to the Program Files, but to C:\Games -directory, for example.

So from reading this, would one make a C:\BWP\BG1 and C:\BWP\BGII - SoA?

Further to that thread, all the patch download locations cannot be found. And I would restate that the Digital Version to install via GoG is different to having the Original CD at hand.

That thread is quite old, the mod is AMAZING and the amount of time put into it amazes me why there is not generic guides as"

Windows XP Guide
Windows Vista Guide
Windows 7 32/64 Guide
GoG XP Guide/Vista/Windows 7

Etc etc.

I can see you as a poster have put extensive work into that thread, but I would assume it is a bit outdated and needs a touch up to be honest. I was under the assumption that the GoG has the patches installed and you don't want to patch as stated in various GoG forum threads, yet when you use BWP it says that BGII - SoA is not patched etc etc please patch. Which conflicts again.

Time, effort and a bit of energy should go into a descriptive guide, even for the noob, new, beginners, intermediate people who have used mods and/or research and update the other threads around here.

Once again, AMAZING the looks of the Mod itself, but not that amazed by the lack of installation support and the lack of updates that are provide for it.

Well, if you read the FAQs point 2.Q3, you'll notice that the game, even though patched in the GoG version, is not the actually the same version, and what you should do about it... or you can go and repatch the game to the actual version, but then you need the play CD.

So from reading this, would one make a C:\BWP\BG1 and C:\BWP\BGII - SoA?

Yes.

the lack of updates that are provide for it.

You are using the BWS beta right ?

That thread is quite old...

Yep, but I updated it today, last..

With GoG and installing exactly as you have it (I am doing that now again) With the Ini that way when you start BG2 SoA/ToB to make the character and quick save it says it cannot read the disk.

I have uninstalled and re-installed using only the patch and CD5 after install - Still have no idea about the Patches itself, the links do not work as I commented earlier and it is not mentioned in the guide you download from the most recent BWP

Here is what you will need to install the BiG World Project:

- Baldur's Gate 1 + Tales of the Sword Coast Expansion Pack
- Baldur's Gate 2 + Throne of Bhall Expansion Pack
- BiG World Setup
- 30 gigabytes of hard drive space (It can get quite large)

Follow these steps to install this massive project:

- Istall both games and their respective expansion packs completely, meaning choose the "Custom" option during BG1 installation and "Full" during BG2 installation.

- DO NOT install them into their standard folders. Let go of the /Program Files/ in the directory, but do not change the root. For example, mine were in D:\Games\BGII - SoA and D:\Games\Baldur's Gate.

- Once both are done, patch them if you are using the disk version. For the digital version, make a .txt file with the title: BG2-ToBPatchReadMe.txt and paste it into the BGII - SoA folder.

- For digital users only, you have an additional step to do. In the BG2 - SoA folder, make the following folder CD5\movies\. Now copy the 25movies.bif file from your data\movies folder and paste it into the CD5\movies\ folder.

- Start a Baldur's Gate 1 game and press Q to make a quick save.

- Now make a Baldur's Gate 2 game and press Q to make a quick save.

- Start a Baldur's Gate 2: Throne of Bhaal game and press Q to make a quick save.

- Execute the BiG World Setup program

- A program will appear, let it update and do what it needs to do. When it gets to the screen with three directors, the first two should match your installation directory. If done correctly, there should be a green light to the right of your directories. If not, you can change it to match your installation directory.

- You can choose between "Minimal" which does not alter the game much, "Standard" for those who have played before, "Recommended" for new comers and "Tactic" for those interested in a challenge. "Expert" is for the insane. To the right of the compilation bar is a [...] button, where upon pressing allows you to decide which modifications you want installed.

- Once ready, click next and be prepared to wait. This may take several, several hours.

- After it is finished, it will ask you various things which Yes or No answers that are fairly straight forward. Continue to do this and it will continue to install.

- Once this is finished, use the ToBExLoader.exe in your BGII - SoA directory and play with Minsc and Boo.

Once again, no mention of Ini there and no mention of patching, just to put BG2-ToBPatchReadMe.txt in the folder.

Using the download that is the most recent taken from: http://blog.fileplan...-world-project/

What did the baldur.ini look like in the original GOG's game ?
The link mirror is down, so the patches section of the FAQ is cheesed for a while...

HD0:=C:\BWS\BGII - SoA\

CD4:=C:\BWS\BGII - SoA\data\
CD5:=C:\BWS\BGII - SoA\data\
CD6:=C:\BWS\BGII - SoA\data\

Take from the file now, after a fresh re-install. I am currently going through the process of The BiG World Setup, it is fetching the mods etc at the moment.

I did not patch as the guide above, that I stated is included with the Mod does not say anything about GoG patching, just to add the Txt File and create the path for the .25 Music etc

Someone needs to take some serious time and write a better guide, I have yet to even get into the game yet and it is taken me a fair bit of installs so far.

Please could anyone explain to me what the hell CD6 would be? I never heard of this before. It seems to me, a lot of most recent problems arise with that GoG version.

The CD6 is none existing CD folder... that doesn't exist. It comes either from a tutorial in the GoG site or from the GoG install itself... <_<

Well I am going off what the installation guide has commented on the BiG World download the "READ ME" I posted here earlier and it appears to be working.

The Dos Box is not sitting a part of the install saying

Installing [Baldur's Gate Trilogy - Core] [1.12 (12 Jun 2011)]
Creating 1 directory
Copying 1 file ...
Copying and patching 1 file ...
Copying 1 file ...

It has been sitting like that for some time now, at the top by the Dos Prompt it is saying

ToA\mp3\ZNOMOR59.mp3 - mpg123/w32 0.59s-mh2

Now is it just copying one big ass file and taking its sweet time or would it appear to be hanging/crashed?

Also when you said about the Ini, which is not mentioned in the guide I am going by - you say "That should work" how do you mean that. By the fact making the Characters and quick saving? I did the Music Folder and the Patch TXT - both worked and the game was fine after that. Now I am unsure when it is meant to "Work" from your end - before the install or after the install? I think one other person too did nothing with the Ini and it is fine. I would assume it could get changed towards the end of the installation.

Now also the installation takes several hours atleast? Someone told me it took them 9 hours or something crazy like that, reason I ask is due to the Dos box sitting like that for some time now...

It's hanging wating for the BG1 directory to be inserted to the line... copy paste this:
C:\BWP\BG1
to it and then just push Enter and the installation should continue ...

What comes to the install time, it will be long, 2 and half hours minimum ... with BGT and few other mods, the 9 is for seeable if you install an eXpert install with all mods. AND never use an external HD, as the USB conection it has makes the install time leap 10 times to bigger...

Pressed enter nothing really happened. Pressed it again and nothing happend. Pressed it again and then,

Came up with

"Checking C:\BWP\BG1"

Invalid Bauldur's Gate dir, or incorrect Baldur's Gate Installation

It is safe to abort this installation by closing this window, or pressing Ctrl+Break three times

You are aware of this error and how to fix it?

Ok so when you say add it, do I just add the C:\BWP\BG1 to the next line down?

Also I have just gone for Standard/Recommended installation, nothing expert etc. I don't use a EXHD for this and/or USB. Its all from my Raid-0 HD setup, not Sata but fairly quick anyhow.

Edit; Just tried it again and it appears that it is coming up with the same message I said before and also the same out come with the "cannot etc etc" from what you have told me to do/fix/add in C:\BWP\BG1 to the dos and press Enter.

My files are

C:\BWS\Baldur's Gate and C:\BWS\BGII - SoA - I tried to use the Baldur's Gate instead of C:\BWP\BG1 as you commented and still no luck.

BINGO!

Just read what you typed... sorry its 1.30am here...

C:\BWP\BG1 - but my install path is C:\BWS\Baldur's Gate - for my BG1 file anyhow.

Came up with a whole heap of files moving across and appears to continued the installation now!! Well I hope so...

I shall keep you updated!

Checked my files, appears my BWP folder in my BGII - SoA folder (Where you said to put it in your big thread) is getting "Populated with files and folders". One would assume it is working now... Happy times ahead!
