Greetings!

Below is the weidu.log content for my current BG2 installation under Mac OS X (10.4.11). I'm pleased to report that I just finished a successful SoA game, and am now proceeding into ToB with the same setup. This is the first time I've been able to get a multi mod install to work as a playable game (but some of my many past failures were due to my lack of troubleshooting and correcting experience). My plan is to play through ToB and report results here. I hope the log will serve as a guide for anyone else who plays under Mac OS X, and who would like to play using a comparable collection of mods :)

Spoiler

In my current game, I've maintained a party of three custom characters throughout; I dismissed Imoen as soon as possible after rescuing her. So, I'll have to test some of the NPCs in additional games, to make sure their content functions as it should (but I'm fairly confident that it will all be well, as I've seen most of the NPC mods work fine in the recent past).

Happy gaming! :)
Eric

ToB is off to a good start. The party is ready to deal with Sendai, but before clearing out her enclave, I took them to Watcher's Keep. In past games, I've gone through the first three levels, but I've never been all the way through it before, so this will be my first time ever exploring the entire keep. About to deal with a mage and his most unusual machine...

My confidence in this installation being stable enough to play and enjoy the game continues to grow :)

Completed Watcher's Keep (my first time ever playing past the Machine!), the party is currently about to face Sendai, and still all is well with gameplay. I'd say that I anticipate smooth sailing from here on out, but I know better than that ;)

Nearing the end of ToB now. My party is about to fight the Ravager. The only unwanted behavior I see in the game lately is that the party stops moving occasionally (like when there are many enemies to face), not even walking forward when I select characters and click on the map for them to move. In that case, I always have to save, quit all the way out, relaunch and reload, in order to continue play. I don't recall if that happens in a pure vanilla installation or not, but it has always happened for me with any mods installed. I'm special like that ;)

This is the most success I've ever had with more than a few mods installed, so I'm very encouraged to install some more after the conclusion of my current game. I'll likely keep the install order I'm currently using as a guide, and attempt to insert other mods in the most logical places to add to the game experience while minimizing mod conflicts.

It is finished! I'm declaring my BG2 installation a success, as this morning my "GA3" team played through the final battles at the Throne of Bhaal, and Dentaris, my protagonist, chose to become mortal :)

Amusingly, when I clicked Done as the ending credits rolled, I got a CTD *L* Gotta love the Mac, eh? ;) Fortunately, no harm was done, so I ignored this with a chuckle.

Now that I've arrived at the most stable and playable installation I've ever had (after how many years of trying? ), I can decide which mods to add, and play on, but maybe I'll run another game or two in the current installation.

Share my joy!!!
Happy modding and gaming,
Eric

Made a few revisions to my installation, so here's the new weidu.log:

Spoiler

New game running with a party that will include no more than two mod NPCs at a given time. Early into Chapter 2, the party has just completed the Slums Slaver quest, and will soon be clearing out the Graveyard before moving on to raise Rep and XP as quickly as possible. Protagonist is a female CG F -> M, who's just acquired Azuredge, and the party currently consists of Yoshimo, Anomen, and Kivan (mod).

Will post progress reports on this one. So far, no unwanted behavior other than the child who bears a magic lamp never appeared after we completed the Circus quest.

First problem to report for my current installation:

Party completed most quests before Spellhold, but have yet to clear the vampire lair. Currently in second level of Watcher's Keep, and they'll clear the first three levels before returning to Athkatla to deal with the vampires and continue from there. We diverted back to Cromwell's shop for some item upgrades before returning to WK.

The problem is that, when we asked Cromwell to add the poison head to the Flail of Ages, he instead gave us a second copy of Celestial Fury +5. I quit without saving, then did the same thing, and got the same result. Party then asked Cromwell to make another item UG, and he gave us another copy of Celestial Fury +5!

I'll return to Cromwell's shop, drop CF +5 from Valygar's items onto the floor, then talk to Cromwell for another item UG, and see what happens. If the same result occurs, how should I go about tracking down the problem and fixing it?

Problem is one of the MANY mods that modify Cromwell's and Cespenar's dialogue.
MANY inlcudes, but is not limited to:
BG2 Tweaks, CtB, item pack and Weimer's item upgrade.

As Celestial Fury +5 is from Weimer's item upgrade, and there were some bugs regarding the "I get more items than I wanted" in earlier/non-hotfixed versions, it stand to reason that that's where your problem originates from.

Unless it changed, Lollorian maintains/fixes item upgrade, so he could probably help you out with fixing this problem with DLTCEP.

This bug is afair no longer present in an install with the latest BWP Fixpack or the latest (hotfixed) version of item upgrade.

Thanks very much for this information! Prior to my current game, I ran a party of three "Generic Archer" characters all the way through to the conclusion of ToB, and didn't experience this issue with Cromwell, but in that game, there was a problem when he mentioned that he could do something with the belts the party carried (a message appeared that said no valid replies or links). I got around that by dropping all belts on the floor before talking to Cromwell, so I'll first try this with Celestial Fury +5, and see if he can upgrade another item and give me the correct upgrade. If that fails, I'll bug Lollorian...

All mods I installed are in the most current version, to the best of my knowledge. I manually applied the hotfixes where appropriate. I can't use BWP scripts, because they're written for Windows, and I use a Mac exclusively (I could possibly write .sh files that do what the .bat files do, but I'm too lazy for that, and probably always will be).

Happy holidays!

Still running with Team Darnelle. They're currently in Spellhold Gauntlet, and are about to undergo the Ultimate Challenge. Not sure yet if the party will be able to defeat the challenge or not.

Darnelle is currently F7 -> W17 (dual-classed; I set her up that way only to make her closer to her PnP counterpart, who trained in combat but has no desire to further develop as a Fighter).

OK, so another several days spent installing mods into my secondary BG2 ToB installation (after restoring to a clean install). Started a game with a female half-elf F/M. She was supposed to be unkitted, but the game always assigns the wrong kits to my saved characters after doing this, so I corrected her .cre in the saved game. Dismissed Imoen, then rescued and dismissed Jaheira and Minsc. Talked to Jasper (DBG), who took the PC to where Yoshimo is first encountered. He acted like he wanted to move, but stayed in place. I had to move my PC to him in order for him to begin dialogue. After joining the party, we got Jasper to take us to the exit of Irenicus' dungeon. Met and declined Yasraena's request to help her, made it to the surface. During the cutscene with Irenicus on the surface, Imoen didn't appear, but Irenicus and the Cowled Wizards did their thing, then PC talked to the lady near the bottom of the stairs, and then Ler, who bantered a bit with Yoshimo. After that, problems started:

Yoshimo usually stands in place when I click anywhere for him to move, and I can't even "teleport" him around using ctrl-J (he starts to glow, but remains in place). He no longer delivers any dialogue, so something appears to be wrong with the Yoshimo mod. Kivan (from Kivan and Deheriana) also stands in place where he spawns, so the PC had to move to him to get him to talk. He joined the party, but he also does not move unless I continue moving him in short, unobstructed lines at a time. Yoshimo keeps "crouching" as though he's about to say or do something, but he does nothing more. Sometimes my PC also does this. Clearly, there's an issue here, but I'm not sure what it is.

Here's the weidu.log content:

Spoiler

Attached is the Chitin.key file. On the plus side, I experienced no crashes, and loading of areas and saving of games goes by without taking forever. What should I look for to find and correct the problem? Or is the entire installation hosed? If I have to, I can restore the installation to just before I added SCSII, as I archived the installation prior to installing that mod.

Please help! :)
Thanks,
Eric

The experience proves to be different depending on which character I use as the PC. I've started a new single-player BG2 game, this time with a female half-elf F/M. It's nice to have the opening scene in the dungeon without any Irenicus content :) The first thing that happens when the scene fades from black, after the PC's death sound, is that I hear the door opening, and then I see Imoen opening the door to the PC's cage. A brief dialogue about Ajantis, and then we're off. Everything works as it should in this game. I let Imoen, Jaheira, Minsc, and Moddie join the party, then talked to Jasper. Decided to skip Yoshimo, wished Yasraena good luck, then emerged in Waukeen's Promenade.

Again, Imoen didn't show up on the map, but she was assumed to be there, and a teleport effect played where she normally stands at that point. Yoshimo walks and talks as he should, and Kivan walks up to talk to the PC. I accepted him into the party, then went to the entrance to the Circus Tent, talking to the guard and the boy. Saved at that point to continue later.

It could be that some of my saved characters have issues, especially because I use NI to customize my characters. More reports will follow, as soon as something unusual happens in the game.

Kalah delivers his death speech, then remains in place, not dead, until the PC talks to him. Then he dies. Aerie's usual banter with Quayle doesn't happen. Party collects loot and exits, talks to Giran and guard, and all is well. Moddie picked Ribald's pocket for the ring, then met with Gaelan Bayle. Moddie picked the upstairs merchant's pocket for a very nice dagger, then party exited and went outside to talk to Brus. As soon as Brus was dismissed, I got a CTD. Will try again to see if I can play though that and continue.

Problems in Bridge District! Aegisfeld stops talking after party gives second response during dialogue. Rampah and Rose are unwilling to talk with the party. Cutscene (mod content) with a wizard who casts a spell to create a staff gets stuck just after the pair of Cowled Wizards teleport in, forcing me to force-quit the game.

Installation finished (again), and I discovered something wrong with the SBS mod, which caused an error at the end of every subsequent mod installation. I took this as a sign, so now I have this install order:

Spoiler

I'm not 100% happy with the order, but close enough to at least playtest, so I have a single-player SoA game running, starring Luinloth, a female half-elf Battleguard of Tempus (she was a PnP character long before a BG2 character). All is well as the party enters the Circus Tent. Party: PC, Jaheira, Minsc, Yoshimo, Kivan. I'll start another game as well, to use other character classes for the PC, and to check out different mod content.

OK, first failure to report:

Upon exiting the Circus Tent, with Aerie in party, the girl from the "What Kalah was promised" mod component approached my PC and initiated dialogue, as normal, but when she addressed Aerie, Aerie delivered her statement of concern about allowing Kitanya into the party, and I was presented with response options. Kitanya isn't anywhere near the party, so now I wonder if all Aerie's dialogues are out of sequence.

Is there any way to track this down and fix it, or do I need to re-install everything again? :wall:

OK, game is unplayable as installed. Party made it to Chapter 2 with oddities:

Both Firkraak and Gaelan stopped their opening dialogues short of giving me any choices to make, and Firkraag had "...nothing to say to you" when I tried having my PC talk to him, but talking to Gaelan again got him to deliver the rest of his dialogue, with choices as normal, but he didn't move the party to his house, instead concluding the conversation at the Slums entrance. Windspear Hills quest therefore not obtained, so area not on worldmap. Nalia displayed the same dialogue behavior, not giving us the portion of dialogue needed to obtain the De'Arnise Keep quest. When my PC talked to her again, asked if she could join the party. When I refused, she said she'd wait there (in the Copper Coronet).

Yoshimo delivered several short lines of dialogue to Kivan, to which there was no response or indication from Kivan that he was involved in conversation. Then Yoshimo stopped delivering dialogues altogether. He'd "crouch" to indicate that a script was activating, but no text or sound. He'd very frequently stop and do this, causing my PC to stop and face him, as though engaging in dialogue.

I'm guessing I should check which scripts are on the NPCs' .cre files, and examine the scripts for something, but I'm not sure what I'm likely to find yet. Any advice on how to troubleshoot and possibly solve these issues, or agreement that this installation is hosed, will be greatly appreciated!

I suspect there's some conflict in my installation involving either crossmod banter or one or more of the friendship mods, but that still wouldn't account for the odd behavior of virtually every NPC the party encounters stopping dialogue short of giving the player any choices to make. I'm at a loss, and don't see any solution for this. Please help!

Thanks,

Pretty sure dialog.tlk got messed up somehow, so it's another round of restoring and reinstalling mods. This time, I'm being more cautious about NPC dialogues/banters/reactions when choosing mod components to install, but using most of the same mods as before. Skipping Deadly Thoughts this time around, as it might be best to get a playable installation before adding that to the mix.
