I found a good guide here for installing trilogy:

http://www.destructo...-2-222096.phtml

However, it doesn't list certain items like:

1. Most of the expansion mods

2. The Worldmap Mod. Or does this come with BGT?

3. Infinity Animations. This changes a lot, so it seems likely it will break other mods?

4. Various quest mods.

Anyone have a current guide that is pretty recent and comprehensive?

Thanks

2.Well, the World map mod is the BP-BGT-Worldmap mod, technically the above mod combination doesn't need it, as it has no other mods that alter the worldmap except the BGT... majorly. And BGT has it's own.
3.IA is not meant for BGT only installs, but fot the TDD SoS etc mods that are in the BWP.
4. The BWP. Yes, that's 200+ page PDF file, yes that's comprehensive... time to read it all. :P

Yep, Jarno Mikkola. my Mega Mod FAQ. Use of the BWS, and how to use it(scroll down that post a bit).
OK, desert dweller, welcome to the sanity, you are free to search for the limit, it's out there, we drew it in the sand. Ouh, actually it was still snow then.. but anyways.

Wow I just skimmed that PDF and it's a monster! Very useful information though.

So if I get this right this mod will install BGT and any other mods I include, and will skip/choose certain options to avoid conflicts. Kind of like how a Linux repository works.

Well.. it's not a mod... but a compilation tool, but yeah. Well, and the other tools like the BiG World Fixpack fixes some of the incompatibility issues you might get from having two mods that won't work nicely with each others.

Hi, I recently installed BGT with several mods, here is exactly what I did - though I did not write down every single modding answer I used - and then I played it all through from BG1 character creation to the TOB ending without any problems.

Note: Unpacking a mod means: the setup-foo.exe, setup-foo.tp2 and other stuff belongs directly into the game directoy, in my case C:\BG2, some mod archive files create an additional subdirectory, be sure to copy everything to the correct place. So if a mod unpacks into C:\BG2\foo-version-xy\foo, move all the foo-version-xy contents one level up into C:\BG2

You can do this on linux, just execute "wineconsole setup-foo.exe" for each mod; just "wine setup-foo.exe" would close the commandline window.

All mods use the WeiDU.exe installer http://www.weidu.org/~thebigg/; some mods use a really old one which does not work at all, so delete the setup-foo.exe and create a copy of WeiDU.exe with the name setup-foo.exe (on linux you can create a symlink instead).

At the time of writing this howto, I used the latest mod versions and all but one mods had a recent WeiDU.exe included (I think one was really old and one was a little older than the latest available version).

  1. BG1 gog.com version (other versions should be fully installed and properly patched) to C:\BG
  2. BG2 gog.com to C:\BG2
  3. Installed BG2 Fixpack v10 (http://gibberlings3.net/bg2fixpack/)
Core Fixes, GTU Light, no Beta, optional+cool, party XP Keldorn, Improved Spell Animation, Cromwell 1 day, no daggerfixes, Ghreyfains Holy Symbol, Giant penalties for Halflings..., Remove Dual Class Restriction, Remove 2nd Attr Boni for Evil, Corrected Summon Demon, Additional Script fixes, Bard Song Fixes, Wizard Slayers Cause Miscast, Additional Alignment Fixes, Change Free Action against Stun, Remove Thieving from Bard+Ranger
  4. Unpack BGT118-Install.rar in C:\BG2 (http://www.spellholdstudios.net/ie/bgt) and install (setup-bgt.exe).
[I guess you could use the github version directly, which does not contain the WeiDU.exe/setup-bgt.exe]
I let it install, confirmed the path to BG1, used recommended options only.
  5. Start BGMain.exe, create a new game, quicksave, exit the game.
  6. You may change the GUI (Setup-GUI.exe), default is BG2 theme, which was ok for me.
  7. Fix the music (setup-bgtmusic.exe), I used hybrid.
  8. Fix textscreen music: TxtMusic_v9.rar contains the core package, TxtMusic_ENG.rar or another one contains the actual language. Unpack both, then run setup-txtmusic.exe
  9. Install BP-BGT-Worldmap (it kinda sucked though, e.g. moving south from one region may create the adjacent region in the south west and finding places in BG2+TOB was horrible because of large distances and no connection somehow; cannot remember the original however). I used original traveltimes (I did not find information why one would want to change that, just information that you can do it. This sucks.) and large worldmap (big enough for BG1+2+TOB; it is actually much too big ^^).
  10. BG2 Unfinished Business (UnfinishedBusiness-v20.zip - http://www.pocketpla...d=101&Itemid=80) - install everything via SETUP-UB.exe.
  11. BG1 Unfinished Business (BG1UB_v13.zip - http://www.pocketpla...=161&Itemid=114) - install everything via setup-bg1ub.exe.
  12. Install ipp (1ppv4.1.0-rel.7z or later: http://www.shsforums.../forum/159-1pp/). You could install everything, the readme shows the differences. Lore for gems and stuff sounded much too annoying for me so I rejected this option.
  13. BG2 Tweak Pack v13 (incompatible mods will be skipped automatically by the installer, so don't fear the 1-2 incompatible mods which are included) - http://www.gibberlings3.net/bg2tweaks/ - This thing is so... HUGE... just open the readme and spend one hour choosing what you want. I skipped the cosmetic changes, think I installed most content changes, installed many rule changes (set everything to P&P, rejected weapon changes, un-nerfed everything, fixed some class stuff, and installed only some convenience tweaks, no cheats and applied all consistency tweaks). Some points could be explained better, e.g. the stopped romance; I have no idea why I would (not) want that.
  14. You could install the widescreen mod now. I did not use it, I play in a 1024 window on my 1080p screen.
  15. The game works but lags seriously e.g. when you pick up one item in the inventory and drop it back again. This is because the override folder now has over 13000 files in it, so I used the End_biff_v2.1.rar (http://www.weigo.gmxhome.de/) to compress everything. Note that the Setup-end_biff.exe is really deprecated, you have to replace it with the latest WeiDU.exe, then it works like a charm. If you don't want to do ALL thos steps again for a new mod or for some changes, you *really* should use the undoable version. This really saved my butt, because I installed the BG2 Tweak Pack some days after I installed everything (I was in the beginning of TOB and got annoyed that my solo Paldin reached the level cap with lvl 34 or so. After that I was able to play up to lvl 50)

I am playing this modded version with a friend via VPN (with IPX because our VPN sucks regarding to IP broadcasts). We ensured that we both use the exact same modded version (I gave him an archive of my BG2 folder and we coordinated the BG2 Tweak Pack installation afterwards because I didn't apply the Tweak Pack at that time I gave him my mod).

I hope I could help you with this howto. I did not install BP because I did not want the AI + tactical changes (and another megamod) and I did not use BWP/BWS because it does not work on Linux (I think I tried it in a virtual machine once, but the installer failed downloading/installing some stuff after wasting HOURS of time - those guys should really use a trusty mirror or upload everything to github or whatever and don't depend on sites last updated 10 years ago).

Oh and you can uninstall BG1 now completely.

Could you erhm, open your weidu.log file with a .txt editor, and copy paste the list... it could possibly help people with Linux installs.

Yeah, well, there's a few issues that need to be solved, and this is one of them...

PS, the Generalized Biffing should be better than the End_bif, as it works on Linux and is uninstallable as any other mod.

I should point out that I used wine for everything: BG1+2 installation, modding and playing, I did not use the Linux native WeiDU. So everything I wrote works on Linux but it is still the Windows way everywhere.

Anyhow, here we go:

~SETUP-END_BIFF.TP2~ #0 #0 // Override Biffing -> This method biffs all files in the override folder and it's possible to         uninstall this mod. You need another 2GB of disk space.

Question: is there a way to use this log for some automated WeiDU installation script?

PS, the Generalized Biffing should be better than the End_bif, as it works on Linux and is uninstallable as any other mod.

ah, thanks for the tip  :new_thumbs:
