In Topic: Best netbook for Black Isle games

Thanks for the reply Fearless!

Windows 7 is definately an option, especially if the netbook I end up buying has the nvidia chipset (which I would like) 2 gigs of ram definately.

I know nothing about netbooks, or how netbook software works (ie, is it different in anyway) so this may seem like a silly question, but do netbooks use Directx like our desktops and Laptops do? Directx SDK March 2008 solved all my infinity game problems on my laptop with Win 7 professional, so if it works the same way for Win7 on a netbook that might help.

Like I said, I dont know much about netbooks, or how their hardware works etc etc, I should read up for myself and I have been the last week, but I was looking to ask people that had a netbook and play these games.

So thank you, and anyone else that may reply!

PS, Asus Eee PC are what I am seeing the most of for people who play these games on netbooks. May not be any difference in the hardware makeups necessarily, but its a starting point of where to look at netbooks and hardware.

EDIT: forgot to mention beside just installing directx sdk, I disabled Directdraw I think it was...

I have an Asus N10J netbook (http://uk.asus.com/N..._Mobility/N10J/) which i use occasionally, and have baldurs gate 2 on it. So basically i would think a netbook with the following spec should be fine:

- Windows XP ? (Vista/Win7 couple of issues with installing older games - see some of the forum posts for more details, like disabling UAC etc, but still usable, prob hard to get a netbook with xp now anyhow)
- Intel Atom Processor 1.6 GHz or greater
- 250GB HDD (could get away with less of course)
- 2GB RAM (again prob not necessary, 1GB min maybe, but worth having more to stop hdd swapping about)
- Integrated gfx or greater (like NVIDIA GeForce 9300M GS 256MB on Asus N10)

With the Asus N10 it can switch between integrated gfx or the nvidia card (requires reboot to use tho) but ive played bg2 on both and works fine (better battery life using integrated card) - had widescreen mod installed and also classic adventures mod, all seems to work fine.

Please let me know if I am in the wrong forum guys.

I guess it would have been more accurate to say "Infinity Engine" games, and company :)

Hey guys, Just like the title says

Anyone have experience with baldurs gate series, PST, IWD 1 and 2, Fallout 1 and 2, Toee, Arcanum on a netbook?
Anyone have recommended specs? or an idea of compatible hardware I should look out for when buying?

Thanks guys, keep up the amazing modding work.

PS< Qwinn if you ever read this, post how much money you want to make a 1.04 patch for Dragon Age Origins! The game is unplayable without your fixpacks! :D

Thanks for the reply Jarno.

BWS looks very very interesting. Reading through the massive pdf as we speak. Will post further questions in that forum.
