Drunken Mod
13 September 2010 - 07:07 PM
When I was playing through I had this sort of silly idea when my characters were in Nashkel. The role-playing aspect really appeals to me; so I decided my characters should go to the tavern and drink a whole bunch. When I was leaving I ran into Edwin and I thought, "Wouldn't it be cool if some conversations changed if you were intoxicated?" Instead of having a normal conversation, you're words come out different and you end up ticking him off or something. Maybe with some of the drunk people you see in different taverns, you could understand if you were drunk and get info.
BG1 To BG2

Hi, I've recently gotten back into playing Baldur's Gate II, and this time I decided to use Baldur's Gate Trilogy to play through BG1 and I liked the thought of playing through the whole storyline like one big game. However, the one thing I was disappointed with was that you don't truly continue from BG1 to BG2. It's still more like you are starting a new game. I only tried to do a little modding a long time (the Nalia dual class switch mod), so I wouldn't have nearly enough skill to do this, but this is my idea-
The way it's presented in SoA you've supposedly been traveling with a party of Minsc, Dynaheir, Jaheira, Khalid, and Imoen, and if you have that party the switch is okay except for Imoen.
First: Imoen is needed for the storyline no matter what you do, so you have Imoen there even if you killed her during BG1, but how does she become a mage and raise 8 levels or so if you didn't dual class her? I think that if you don't dual class her she shouldn't be changed; instead give her a special ability of magic missile (she's a bhaalspawn after all, isn't she?). I know that there's probably an issue here with Imoen creature of SoA (I'm not sure but doesn't she have that belt on to make sure she doesn't die?) and not being able to just replace her with the one you were traveling with, so you maybe you'd have to alter her stats.
Second: If you have Minsc and Dynaheir in your party; Dynaheir still dies. If you have Jaheira and Khalid in your party Khalid still dies. However, if you have Dynaheir and/or Khalid in your party without Minsc,Jaheira (I'm assuming because they died in BG1 game) then they won't die. In the other paired characters Eldoth-Skie, Xzar-Montaron you could have a random chance of which one dies. In the occurance of other characters a random chance would decide who dies. Basically no matter what you do the computer would kill off two characters. Dynaheir and Khalid would be protected only without their counterparts, and the only other character that could protected would be one the other pairings, but only if their in the pairing-otherwise they'd be considered a single character. And only two characters will be killed off to match the same storyline.
A lot of work on this mod to allow true continuation would be on putting all the BG1 npc's into BG2. Also there would be a range of quite a bit of work to loads of work depending how much different reactions you make to character's deaths.
I don't know if any of this is possible, mostly I only bring it up because I don't really see a reason in doing BGT all the way through if you can't bring your party (or at least part of it) with you.
Some obvious problems that come to mind that might already be addressed in BGT:
Quayle- if he travels with you he can't be in the circus tent. Best solution I can think for this is to make it a different Quayle. It's not like he has any special connection and Aerie talks to much about "Uncle Quayle" to change his name.
Xzar,Montaron- Only problem would be if you killed Montaron and kicked Xzar out of your team; then Xzar should be in the Docks District, but Montaron is dead. (I guess you could assume that Xzar got him ressurected? In other situations with this pairing you could just not have that quest at all.
