A clean install of Baldur's Gate II with no patches/upgrades worked. Am in the process of finding the patch/upgrade that caused the problem and I'll post here when I find it.

Hiya,

Thanks for your reply. Will try a clean install of SOA and TOB without any additions and see if it works then (I have had extras installed since I first went through the whole game as a Barbarian). Otherwise I wouldn't know what the problem could be.
I would make the weapons glow but my knowledge is limited to Visual Basic 6 at the moment in terms of programming languages. Tis an idea though to learn how to use the engine now that I have a few months holiday before uni starts.

The ini file was modified and the cheat keys were enabled. But I still can't figure out how to get CTRL+H to work. This is all the afore-mentioned walkthrough says about it:

Throne of Bhaal adds a new one:

    CTRL+H -- Fixes a wild mage to a specific surge, such that every time he
              casts a spell he gets that surge.  Setting the Surge Number to 0
              undoes the surge fixing and goes back to normal functioning (or
              malfunctioning as the case may be).


Any other ideas?
