In Topic: Can I use the following with BGT?

if you want to play from the start of Candlekeep thru to the end of Melissan, install BP-BGT or one of its variants, and live with the tricky install learning curve.

Or pick up Ascension64's BGT-WeiDU and help him beta test it

Lol. B) Well, Yacomo, that's the very mod I used. Ascension64 spotted an inquiry I made in another thread, in which I was asking for advice about how best to install BGT without all the extra BP adventures like Shadows Over Soubar and NEJ etc. - just BGT alone - and he/she(?) recomended I DL the latest Weidu version.

His/Her(?) mod worked fine of course, and the installation was a total success, BUT I then wanted to add... well, you'll see above of course. SO... that was why I began this thread, in order to ask if anyone knew of compatability issues regarding BGT working with those mods(Flirt, Banter, Tweaks etc.) but NO BP... since the thread Sir BillyBob kindly directed me to is designed to aid users who ARE running the BP.

Now, BP is what I hoped to avoid of course. While I have no doubt that the adventures it incorporates are truly excellent, I didn't want to over-complicate my game and stray TOO FAR from the original plot. BGT claims to adhere fairly closely to the full tale from BG1 through TOB(with the exception of having to kill Sarevok before doing ToSC, but I can live with that), so it seemed like the right choice.

It would also allow me(I hoped) to avoid the installation "learning curve" to which you refer, seanas... though I am truly grateful for your advice, :) and may well end up having to go down that road.

BUT, if it's at all possible, I'd rather stick with BGT alone, and perhaps even try to help Ascension determine which of those Mods(the ones I hope to use) are/aren't currently compatible with the Weidu, so that a better, more comprehensive BGT-Weidu can come of it.

Though, I should confess, I am a complete novice at this side of things, and may prove to be of little use in the Beta Testing process. :(

Nevertheless, I could try.

Now, the thread which SirBillyBob indicates refers, as we know, to BP+BGT compatability, but as far as I am aware, there is no thread(or at least I failed to find it, and I apologise if I've overlooked the obvious) which attempts to do the same for Ascension's stand-alone BGT-Weidu(hence the reason for starting this thread in the first place). There is of course a BUG REPORT, but is that strictly-speaking the same thing?

Might it be sensible to suggest that such a thread(ie. one that focuses on compatability) is well worthwhile, folks? And if so, how about using THIS thread for that purpose, so as to save spamming the forum with additional threads?

Just a thought. A humble suggestion, though I don't want to create any problems.

Here is a really silly thought, why don't you look at the pinned thread on compatibility?  Here

Most of the mods compatible with BP will work with BGT-BP as well.

I don't know if the tweaks mod is on that list yet.

NPCs like Valen work fine.

Ease of Use is listed right in the install instructions.  Only parts of it will work.

Banters/flirts "should" work.

Thanks for the link, Sir BillyBob. Most grateful. Unfortunately one of those mods has screwed up my dialogue. I checked on all of the mods' compatability before installing of course. Anyway, one of them has messed it all up, and now everyone my party talks to gives them very strange reactions indeed. Ie. text from the wrong parts of the adventure.

I don't know why. I only installed mods that were listed as C or P. Maybe it's because I'm not running The Big Picture or any of it's components, perhaps?

Looks like I'll have to unstall BG2 and start again tomorrow. :(

Thanks for the link anyway.

Hello again, folks.

Thanks ever so much for taking the time to offer thoughts and assistance. :)

I've done a re-install, and sure enough I put BG1 into C:\Baldur temporarily, and I also followed a link provided by Ascension64, which gave me a newer Weidu version of the mod. NB: I am, alas, NOT experienced at Dos-progging, so I didn't feel I dared try changing the Path inf. lol.

Anyway I do believe it has all worked ok! I have a new character in Candlekeep running on the BG2 engine. Yaaaaayyyyyyyyyyy!!!

Thanks EVER so much for your help, everybody. I really do appreciate it.

:)

So, may I ask, does this version (0.99b) remove the need for the Baldurdash-Weidu patch ...?

No. Baldurdash-WeiDU is a general BG2 contents patch. So as soon as both mods use the same (read - BG2) set of resources it will affect BGT part more or less...

But all BG1-specific fixes are already included into BGT-WeiDU.

Ooops. My apologies. That was actually a type-o there, in the section of my post which you've quoted King-Diamond. What I MEANT to ask was does v.0.99 remove the need for the Baldurdash-BGT patch. Ie. the one recomended by Gekker, but which I couldn't retrieve because it's on the end of a dead link(or rather, it isn't).

ANYWAY....

I've followed your lead, Ascension64, and re-installed the whole lot, using the Weidu-mod that was linked in your sig, and I do believe it has all worked ok! Yayyy! I've created a quickie, sort of "throwaway" fighter(fighters are quickest to roll up), and he's even now standing around in Candlekeep, talking to tutors. Woohooo!! No crash!!!

Thanks EVER so much for your help, everybody. :) I really do appreciate it.

If you do not use Win9x/ME look at my sig perhaps.  But if you are not using WeiDU version then someone else may have a better idea.

Many thanks, Ascension. I'll give that a try. I'll have to uninstall BG2 and ToB AGAIN before I do of course, so it may take a while. *Sigh*

So, may I ask, does this version (0.99b) remove the need for the Baldurdash-Weidu patch AND the BGTMenu files?

You see, I tried a second installation last night, running V.0.94b, but of course I had no access to the aforementioned two files. Now, I THOUGHT at first that it had all worked fine, and I was able to a create a character and begin my game...

...I got that movie with that guy being thrown off of a building(annoying that you can't skip it by pressing Space or Return), and it then led into the very familiar bit of speech, "Nestled atop the clifftops" etc.

...Needless to say, we've all heard that bit of narrative many many times, so I clicked "done" in order to skip it, happy at least that the BG2 engne was running the RIGHT adventure - ie. BG1 - but no sooner had I done this than the game crashed back to the desktop.

Now, the error it gave me... I do not recall all the precise numbers, but it simply said something like the "memory could not be "written"". I am led to understand that this is a common error associated ONLY with Windows XP, which, you may deduce correctly, I am indeed running.

Was this perchance a common error with BGT on Windows XP? Is that an error which the v.0.99b installer is designed to eliminate?

Or, and I shudder to ask this, might I have done something else wrong? As I say, my copies of BG1 and BG2 were completely clean of all other mods, and only patched in accordance with Gekker's little turorial, so I do not see if or where I could've gone wrong, except that I was of course unable to apply the Baldurdash-Weidu patch and BGTMenu files.

Just wondering? Is the "could not be written" error common on Windows XP?
