If i had coding skill this is something i'd look at doing, although its probably not feasible. Put your ideas and thoughts...
I was chatting with the young adventurers that wanted the swords. Should you be allowed to ask ANY character in Baldurs Gate to join the Protaganist's Party. I see no reason why you should not have the option to ASK anyone to join your party, even if their circumstances or position may preclude it.
for the test of this, a weight would need to be assigned to all characters, or at least character types (ie peasants, nobles, monsters, etc). Obviously there are some characters who won't or can't join your party.
I propose this could be decided in true D&D form with the roll of a dice. you would need to roll higher than the weight for them to join, however since some can't or won't join, these people would get the highest weighting say 6, which you can't roll higher than and they wont join.
Once you roll higher and the character is allowed to join the party, the race and gender should be already known from the NPC itself and many already have a name.
Since Baldurs Gate already has a semi-automatic character generator, it should be possible to augment this into a fully automatic system. would it be possible to fill all the required fields?
It would require an extra button to be added to the hud. It'd also require a list of names for those that need them and it would also require some way to sort them into class, etc. Does BG have all the necessary artwork and sounds to add other NPC? like monsters? (and children?)
Given some of the TC's done so far, i dont think its totally unrealistic, but would require a lot of work. sorry if its a stupid idea.
