#491895 A few odd things

Posted by Vampire Killer on 10 July 2010 - 06:25 AM in Mega Mod Help

The problem there is that I didn't have any control over the included components with the limited knowledge I had at the time of install. The two components that I didn't like were automatically installed. I've been busy all week but I'm going to reinstall, perhaps today. The PDF that comes with BWS is massive. It's not beyond possibility to miss something when trying to inform yourself on what you're getting into.

Ok, I think I know how to do all those things except I'm slightly unclear on what it means to manually update the Weidu exe files. Does that just mean to copy in the latest weidu.exe and name it something I can remember and leave it in the install directory, or something more complicated like updating every single mod exe in my bg2 directory? I'll take a crack at this tomorrow after work.

I tried, I really tried to RTFM. I thought Aurora's B&S was just a merchant that sold footwear. Thanks.

EDIT: Besides removing the entire mod from my next installation, is it just as simple to edit the big world install.bat and remove those two components? Will a brand new copy of bigworldinstall.bat get extracted to my BGII - SOA directory upon reinstalling that erases my changes?

Here's another thing. I took Hard Times out of my BWS install this time because the high prices of items was frustrating. But now in Candlekeep, the starting inn has prices that are just as high. A suit of chainmail costs over 200 gold. Is there another mod in BWS that affects weapon and armor prices in BG1?

Ok. Well, it's just strange to get a text box after BWS finishes that instructs me to start the game with TobExLoader.exe and to press R when someone joins the party, if that doesn't actually do anything. At least now I know why.

I see. If the component required to customize your party members is omitted, what is the point of even installing the Level 1 NPC mod?

#491523 A few odd things

I'm confused about the Level 1 NPCs mod. I get the instructions that tell me to make sure party AI is turned on and to press R as soon as a member joins the party. No matter how I try, pressing R only brings up their generic character sheet and I have no options to re-specialize them. I have even tried by running TobExLoader first to start the game.

Should I just upload my weidu.log or paste it in text format? I don't know what you mean by Imoen following my start value. She starts as a level 10 charming rogue, 4 levels more powerful than me. As for the mods that allow F/C and Barbarians more options, I didn't realize that but it makes sense. It doesn't really bother me, it just kind of feels like breaking the rules. Thanks.

#491484 A few odd things

In my install of BWS Tactical, when I start bg2 and put up with all the cutscenes etc. and finally have imoen let me out of my cell I see a message in the text window saying Imoen is losing experience in chunks of 33333 points. This occurs three times. But she starts at level 10 while I am level 6 regardless of losing that exp. Once I get Jaheira and Minsc, they too lose some experience though not as much. Does anyone know what causes that?

The other two things I was going to mention are, my fighter/cleric multiclass character can put points into any weapon proficiency or style, even bladed weapons. Some other characters, like a half-orc barbarian, can choose any alignment they want. Does a certain mod cause these discrepancies, or is it an error I made for myself?

Thank you for any ideas on these things.

#491062 BiG World Setup Beta-Testing

Can the Tutu mod called TutuGui (uses the nice stone GUI from BG1) be installed safely after a BWS tactical install?

#491044 BGT Tactical Game

I see. I guess I can just try to go by an old gamefaqs guide on spells and see what happens. Is the true grandmastery fix in BWS and does it affect BG1? Thanks.

As in, makes a formerly good spell much weaker or worthless.

Do any mods in BWS drastically alter the mage spells? Thank you.

Well, I ended up re-installing, which I didn't need to do. But I'm up and running again. Are plain sorcerors as powerful in a BWP Tactical game as they are in the vanilla game? And do the mage spells get mostly improved or weakened by the overhaul mods? Thanks.

This might be a stupid question, but if I install Dungeon Be Gone after everything else just as a last resort, does it completely overwrite any changes that Tactics put in Chateau Irenicus? Because I fought Ilyich expecting to get slapped around and I chunked him. Doesn't seem right.

#490622 BGT Tactical Game

Posted by Vampire Killer on 23 June 2010 - 06:35 PM in Baldur's Gate Series

I just tried sealing myself in a room and they can spawn inside it. That's so cheap. I would just use Dungeon-Be-Gone, but since DBG was made for vanilla BG2, the automatic xp rewards would be far short of what I could earn by slugging my way through it. Not to mention that DBG wouldn't give me any items added by other mods in the dungeon, just from vanilla. This kinda sucks. Not sure how to proceed.

#490618 BGT Tactical Game

Posted by Vampire Killer on 23 June 2010 - 06:02 PM in Baldur's Gate Series

Okay, this is really bugging me. Is there any remotely possible way to rest in Chateau Irenicus with the Tactics mod installed without endless waves of Duergar spawning in? The gold from their cold, dead, gray little bodies is nice. But I realize that if I keep trying to rest, which I absolutely need to do since my characters are all quite hurt, they are going to die in that dungeon one by one and I'm going to be mightily discouraged. So if there is no way possible to either rest/recouperate or otherwise overcome the fights without resting, the next step for me is to uninstall the game and ditch the tactics mod completely. Thanks.

Cool. Well, 10 int will have to do. Adventure commences tomorrow after work! Thank you.

#490553 New BWP install, some questions

I didn't really understand that post, but I feel satisfied that my game will be okay. Thanks again.

#490531 BGT Tactical Game

Woah, alchemy. I just magically created a potion of major healing. Can alchemy fail, and are there stats that boost it? My half-orc barbarian has 19, 18, 19 for str dex con, but int through cha is all 10. Should I have lowered cha and int even more to boost wis or maybe some other re-distribution? Pretty sure str dex and con are maxed.

Okay. I think I will re-roll for dual wield and offensive spin. My barbarian has over 100 hp now, which I *think* is enough to play with at the beginning. Hope I'm right.

Great, thanks Dabus.

#490525 BGT Tactical Game

Posted by Vampire Killer on 22 June 2010 - 11:31 AM in Baldur's Gate Series

I'm running out of questions, which is good. But I have a couple more. Do you need to be evil to romance Viconia? I just rolled up a lawful good half-orc barbarian. I'm actually pretty satisfied with it, but since BWS Tactical is so hard I am unsure whether I want to dual wield for more damage and less protection or use a hammer and a shield for more protection and less damage output. Last question, since I have the "chores" mod that gives you special abilities when you finish it, should I take alchemy or tracking? And offensive spin or defensive spin? Thanks again for your help!

Just out of curiosity, do the romanceable characters tell you they won't romance you because you're a half-orc, or does it just never become a possibility? I think I'm going to go with elf since I wanted to roll with Jaheira this time, I do somewhat remember that when I finished the game in 2000 I romanced Aerie, but that's pretty much all I remember.

Does being a half-orc hobble you character wise though? Like people's reaction to you, romance etc. It's really been that long that I don't remember. I'm not against being an elven kensai, just thought I'd give half-orc a try.
