#579938 BiG World Setup (an attempt to update the program)

Posted by dreamer2007 on 28 July 2015 - 11:53 AM in Mega Mod Help

[EDIT] By the way, my kids have never liked BG-BG2. They prefer Skyrim, Witcher and even Minecraft. My son said that BG is old, ugly, boring, lacks reality feeling and a lot of text to read. :) I guess it will be worse with time, so don't expect much that your kids and other kids will ever play this game or mods (unless you force them to play LOL).

Actually, one of the most popular games released this year was Pillars of Eternity, a game similar with BG is some ways, with "a lot of text to read" :) . Also other popular examples are Divinity Original Sin, and Wasteland 2, both highly successful, released at the end of 2014. So kids still like these kind of games, no matter if they have a lot of text :)

#579937 BWP v15

Posted by dreamer2007 on 28 July 2015 - 11:41 AM in Mega Mod Help

Leonardo: BWP adds a ton of NPCs. More companions makes it easier to enjoy the game's content. 10 will be harder to manage sure, or I just may have more archers with me :) Balance is a relative thing. Mods can always add more monsters and traps. I look forward to more characters to assist in the Ascension fight. Eventually I hope for support for even more characters. We should be content with 10 and test that thoroughly for now.

I agree. But I remember that there were some mods already that could increase the difficulty to really high levels? I remember one had in the extra difficulty description saying something about pulling your hair out or something. That sounds balanced for 10 companions :D

#579833 BiG World Setup (an attempt to update the program)

Posted by dreamer2007 on 26 July 2015 - 10:07 AM in Mega Mod Help

Imagine, all of you who spent so much time and efforts on making many mods working together - to spend the same time and efforts on making a new game.

You may be right in some way, but people enjoyed doing this, and a lot of people appreciate the effort and the project as a whole. BWP brought me here in 2007, and here I still am, after so many years, thanks to Leonardo Watson, and all the nice people helping the project grow over the years, with BWS and bug fixes.

BWP exists, it works, its great, a lot of people love it and come back to it after so much time, so why not support it?

I personally didn't get the chance to play NeJ yet, and planned to do it in this install, but like Lollorian says, its hard to maintain compatibility between so many different NEJ versions. So maybe, pretty please, you could release v7 publicly? It would help us BWP fans a lot in the long term.

#579822 BiG World Setup (an attempt to update the program)

Posted by dreamer2007 on 26 July 2015 - 08:02 AM in Mega Mod Help

Ok I got NeJv701, TSv705 and BDashv170

I have been thinking about the situation here - maintaining compatibility for the old versions of NeJ seems redundant with the new version out. Like cmorgan suggested, I too feel that we should drop all NeJ variants and redirect players to Vlad's PM thread so they can get NeJv7 if they want.

Thoughts?

Waiting for the public release seems like a good idea, so they can be integrated properly into BWP, and be installed successfully with BWS. But if you want to check them out and help Leonardo with the fixes that are needed once they go public, that would definitely speed things up :D

Well I'm going to try this. Wish me luck!

You mean a new install? Good luck! I will try as well I think :)

Soo, since the BWS was updated (Thanks for that!), is it time to start a new install? Does the setup have everything I need?

#579577 BiG World Setup (an attempt to update the program)

Does anyone know if Alien and/or Quiet left for good? They did not write anything or update BWS for over a month :(
If they left is there anyone who could take over their titatnic work?

It doesn't look good. It seems like they didn't visit the site since June :(

#579556 Question About IWDEE Mod Install Order

Posted by dreamer2007 on 20 July 2015 - 12:53 AM in Mega Mod Help

The order looks okay to me, just FYI if the "Improved Archer" mod (I'm just now noticing that mod title is a bit presumptuous... :P) Anyway if it modifies the core Archer files instead of adding s new alternative Archer kit, then the Scales of Balance Warrior Tweaks (component #300) will probably conflict with it.

I agree. With Improved Archer and Scales of Balance, the Archer kit doesn't even show up. It is replaced by other kits.

#579437 A new Baldur's Gate?!

Posted by dreamer2007 on 16 July 2015 - 10:14 PM in Baldur's Gate Series

well, there is still a gap between BG2 and ToB to fill   Also never-ending TotSC like expansions ;)

That's very true :D

And what exactly would CHARNAME do between BG2 and ToB? S/he literally walks straight from Suldanesselar to the Stone Head grove.

I doubt more Totsc expansions because the SoD site answers why SoD wasn't 5E D&D. This indicates that their plans are foe future independent games to be non-2e and thus outside of the Bhaalspawn saga.

Actually, it could be something added before Irenicus. Like Watcher's Keep was added in by ToB. There are always options :)

#579350 Notes, Oddities and Possible Bugs in My BWP Game (Spoilers)

Posted by dreamer2007 on 15 July 2015 - 07:55 AM in Mega Mod Help

Ah wait, I remember your case, it was caused by SCS (an old version - added a 2-hander with a shield to one of the bandits inside the tent :P)

Actually no :D. That was another bug, older, that was indeed fixed. And it was about skeletons :), way outside the tent.

#579346 Notes, Oddities and Possible Bugs in My BWP Game (Spoilers)

Posted by dreamer2007 on 15 July 2015 - 07:52 AM in Mega Mod Help

I tried to find why you guys had crashes and the culprit mod here is NeJv694 :P

In my case it wasn't Nej, since I didn't install it last year - I had a recommended install. In the next install its the first time I'm considering trying Nej. But I didn't find out what it truly was either, and don't have the install anymore to find out :(

#579324 Notes, Oddities and Possible Bugs in My BWP Game (Spoilers)

Posted by dreamer2007 on 14 July 2015 - 10:28 PM in Mega Mod Help

First big problem encountered.

CTD at Bandit Camp (AR8700.ARE) when entering to Big Tent (AR8701.ARE). Fixed by putting AR8701.WED to override, Quiet posted it here.

As usual i don't have idea what causes this (didn't check it any further), Quiet's WED works so back to playing BWP.

I remember having this problem in one of my playthroughs about one year ago. Glad there is a fix for it :)

#579146 A new Baldur's Gate?!

Posted by dreamer2007 on 10 July 2015 - 09:48 AM in Baldur's Gate Series

It might be a pipedream, but I do wish for an official Baldur's Gate Trilogy game. That by itself would engender a lot of smoother transitions and more polished and expanded content. The fact that BG2EE will be getting a new class and UI updates and items is an indication of that possibility.
But see, the modders can do it better... and besides, we already have a BGT, a BGT-weidu, and EET... so the competition for the spot is astronomical.

The modders work is great, no doubt about it. But it is mostly confined in the limit of the games themselves. What Beamdog could be doing is expand beyond the confines of the original games, and attract new players, or bring back veterans, and so rejuvenate the BG modding community, to bring a new BG mods golden age. Okay, now I'm dreaming a little much, but why not? :D

#579141 A new Baldur's Gate?!

Posted by dreamer2007 on 10 July 2015 - 09:13 AM in Baldur's Gate Series

One thing to note is the fact that this new badgirl Caelar Argent is not mentioned at all in bg2 or in tob. No hell trial. No Abyss Caelar or anything. Ascension mod will now feel weird and people will ask where is Caelar? Why not another dead Bhaalspawn to fight? I hope Beamdog will continue to create content for bg2ee and bridge some story content gaps that are now being created by this interquel. I will say that this early army battle excites me greatly. Kudos to them for that. I've wanted something polished like that for a long time.

I suspect that if they are successful, they will add a new BG2EE expansion related to this story, which would be awesome. Let's hope they are indeed successful, although I suspect they will be.

No standalone: it is an expansion for bg1ee

Yea, that's what I understood as well initially.

#579124 A new Baldur's Gate?!

"25 hours" of janeplay
new everything, but with some returning npcs
standalone
new class, shaman
soundtrack by sam hulick
2 new difficulty levels

story: theres a chick in the north that leads a murdercrusade, shes a bhaalspawn, murder her guts

Perfect summary :D

Okay, so it seems that the "new game" is actually an expansion to BGEE, called Siege of the Dragonspear. Still, good news :)

Here you can see Beamdog's stream describing the expansion.

#579017 The 'official' BWP Fixpack thread

Posted by dreamer2007 on 07 July 2015 - 12:32 PM in Mega Mod Help

The Lolfixer should handle this in the next BWP and let you keep the ToBEx option active

When you say "next BWP", you mean this BWP? :D

Yes, use BWS to download and install mods! Quite safe! Easier! BWS Doesn't require you to unpack mods yourself and you can establish your own location for your BG2 mods.

Okay, thank you again, Bill Bisco! :)
