#615261 Winter 2024 Updates to Unearthed Arcana Mods

Posted by IE Modding News on 22 January 2024 - 07:18 PM in Infinity Engine Modding News

Might & Guile is updated to version 5.7 with improvements/fixes for the Samurai kit

Faiths & Powers is updated to version 0.86.6 with improved compatibility for new spells added by SCS and ToF

5E Spellcasting is updated to version 2.5.2 with some minor fixes and improved compatibility for new spells added by SCS and ToF

The Unearthed Arcana series of mods (/link) represent a number of changes and additions to the way classes work in the Baldur's Gate games:

  • Might & Guile offers new kits and various class improvements for fighters, rangers, thieves, and bards.
  • Tome & Blood offers new sorcerer kits and various improvements and new mechanics for mages and sorcerers.
  • Faiths & Powers offers many new priest kits, divine spellcasting changes, new kits and archetypes for paladins, and even more kits for multiclass priests - including more multiclass druids.
  • Will to Power adds a 2E-inspired "psionics is not magic" point-based psionics system to the game, along with psion kits and even wild talents for non-psions.
  • 5th Edition Spellcasting allows mages/bards/priests to cast spells with 5th Edition rules: you memorize a certain subset of spells, but then you can cast them interchangeably.
  • Magic Battles Revised streamlines the arcane "magic duel" system, making it a bit quicker, and more sensible.
  • BP-in-BG inserts the Black Pits 1 campaign into the regular Baldur's Gate game.

Taken together, these mods represent a unified vision of how all the game's classes can operate and interact in new and improved ways. However because everyone's taste is different, they are designed to be as modular as possible, allowing players to pick and choose from among different tweaks and improvements. Compatibility with other mods is maximized wherever possible.

#615256 WeiDU.org: IWD2 Ease of Use and IWD2 Bonus Merchant Updated

Posted by IE Modding News on 30 December 2023 - 08:04 AM in Infinity Engine Modding News

WeiDU.org

A pair of updates for some of Wes' older IWD2 mods to shake out some old bugs and ensure compatibility with the new IWD2EE mod.

IWD2 Bonus Merchant

This is a mod that makes a bonus merchant in IWD2 selling equipment from BG2. If you've played BG2, you know how these bonus merchants work: vastly overpriced, moderately powerful items that you wouldn't get anywhere else.

IWD2 Ease of Use

This is a collection of useful mods put together by Westley Weimer for use on IWD2. Many of them were written by others.

#615262 Winter 2024 Updates to SubtleD's Tweak Mods

Posted by IE Modding News on 22 January 2024 - 07:12 PM in Infinity Engine Modding News

Combat Skills and Proficiencies is updated to version 1.4.3 making cantrips available to thieves via spending weapons proficiencies (if the Innate Cantrips are installed from SubtleD's Spell Tweaks)

SubtleD's Spell Tweaks is updated to version 2.7 with fixes for the Innate Cantrips

SubtleD's Item Tweaks is updated to version 1.3.2 with improvements to the components affecting Rings of Wizardry

SubtleD's Stat Overhauls is updated to version 1.5.1 making Wisdom-based bonus spells available to paladins and rangers, and with improved compatibility with new spells added by SCS and ToF.

The SubtleD Tweaks series of mods provides a large number of tweaks both large and small, to spells, items, abilities, and other game mechanics:

  • Combat Skills & Proficiencies provides alternate rules for weapon proficiencies and fighting styles, and adds a feat system that is integrated into the game's proficiency system.
  • SubtleD's Spell Tweaks overhauls some systems underlying certain spells, like familiars and illusionary clones, and tweaks several dozen spells on a smaller scale to make them more balanced, more distinctive, and more fun.
  • SubtleD's Item Tweaks improves several items to make them more engaging and useful.
  • SubtleD's Stat Overhauls improves various aspects of ability scores, adding new bonuses, new penalties (!), and more interaction with other systems (like spell memorization slots).
  • IWD_EET_Integration alters the way tipun's IWD and IWD2 mods interact with EET: it allows those campaigns to be played independently from level 1, and optionally adds some IWD content into the BG2/SoA campaign.

Taken together, these mods represent a unified vision of how the game's spells and other abilities can operate and interact in new and improved ways. However because everyone's taste is different, they are designed to be as modular as possible, allowing players to pick and choose from among different tweaks and improvements. Compatibility with other mods is maximized wherever possible.

Posted by IE Modding News on 23 January 2024 - 10:30 AM in Infinity Engine Modding News

This mod adds a new companion to Icewind Dale: Enhanced Edition - Dendjelion. He's a halfling blackguard from Westgate. A crude person and a follower of Bhaal, the infamous Lord of Murder. A man who believes death may bring a change. Strong and vengeful. He came to Kuldahar in search of Noon - a knight of Lliira that he blames for killing his brother.

In the new version, if you decide to side with Noon near the very end of the game, Noon will replace Dendjelion in the team so you won't be left alone without an additional fighter after losing one.

#615254 WeiDU.org: The Return of Spell-50

Posted by IE Modding News on 30 December 2023 - 08:08 AM in Infinity Engine Modding News

WeiDU.org

From Wes: Quite a few priest, druid and mage spells are extended (linearly) in all respects up to 50th level. For example, a 50th level mage casting Fireball does 50d6 damage (save for half). A 50th level mage casting Blur gains the blur benefits for 150 rounds. Note that this applies to you and to your enemies.

From Cam: This is not meant to be a balanced mod and, while you may eat a 30d6 Fireball once in a while, for the most part it's going to make the game substantially easier by buffing your spellcasters. It's meant to be fun, even if it can be a bit silly.

This mod has been recoded from the bottom up and quite a few improvements have been made along the way, notably, that it covers many more spells than before; that it now covers the original Icewind Dale and Baldur's Gate games, BGEE, BG2EE, IWDEE, BGT, Tutu, and BGT; that any level cap from 1 to 50 can be selected; that it does so without overwriting the old spells; and that it also updates game text and spell descriptions.

v7 changelog

  • Updated to work with several additional games: BGEE, BG2EE, IWDEE, BGT, Tutu, EET, original Baldur's Gate, and original Icewind Dale
  • Spell extensions are now done semi-automatically at install time and no longer overwrite existing spells
  • Ability to select level cap from a variety of options
  • Updated to cover spells from Icewind Dale imported into BG/BG2 games via IWDification, SCS, or Talents of Faerūn
  • Spell descriptions are now updated, mainly to remove phrases indicating a maximum damage or other effects
  • Extended to cover these additional BG2 spells:
    • Arcane: Grease; Magic Missile; Shocking Grasp; Melf's Acid Arrow; Flame Arrow; Spell Shield; Contingency; Symbol, Fear; Symbol, Stun
    • Divine: Armor of Faith; Call Lightning; Hold Animal; Holy Smite; Unholy Blight; Shield of the Archons; Sunray
    • Other: Kit versions of spells (Lathander's Hold Undead; Avenger's Chain Lightning; &c.); other class/kit abilities like Lay On Hands

#615225 G3: Talents of Faerūn version beta 1 released

Posted by IE Modding News on 13 December 2023 - 04:35 AM in Infinity Engine Modding News

Talents of Faerūn (ToF) is a new mod by DavidW, author of Sword Coast Stratagems.

ToF is a collection of about 85 mini-mods for the Enhanced Edition versions of Baldur's Gate, Baldur's Gate II, and Icewind Dale, partially inspired by existing mods and tabletop Dungeons and Dragons resources. It contains many optional tweaks to various parts of gameplay, focusing on expanding and rebalancing player character abilities. Features include 150-odd new high-level abilities, a new 'feat' system where lower-level characters gain abilities every few levels, revisions to existing kits, new classes, new kits for multi-class characters, new types of magical specialization, a dozen or so new spells, many spell tweaks, 20-odd new gods for clerics to worship, a subrace system, a revised system of cleric/druid spells, and tweaks to the rules for ability scores and proficiencies.

Talents of Faerūn is currently in 'beta', meaning that I think it ought to be recreationally playable but almost certainly contains significant bugs that my own testing has not discovered. Use at own risk.

Grab it direct here. You can also visit the extensive project pages, readme, or TOF forum for more information.

#615162 G3: Version 6 of Amber Now Available

Posted by IE Modding News on 16 November 2023 - 06:35 PM in Infinity Engine Modding News

The Gibberlings Three

Amber is a tiefling rogue of a chaotic good alignment, possessed of a few special abilities. Despite being fairly intelligent, she can at times be rather blunt when communicating with other people. This trait rarely earns her friends among the people she meets, and the feeling of initial dislike is usually mutual. But underneath her prickly manners, she has a good heart and is prepared to go to great lengths to help those who she sees to be weak and in need of aid.

Version 6 fixes the text encoding issues of v5.1 and fixes a handful of other issues. Learn more about Amber on her project page or readme, join us on Discord or the forums, or download v6.

Posted by IE Modding News on 27 November 2023 - 03:23 AM in Infinity Engine Modding News

Sword Coast Stratagems is a collection of interconnected mini-mods for Baldur's Gate (on the BGT/BGTUTU/BGEE versions) and Baldur's Gate II. It is primarily a tactical and AI-enhancement mod: the idea is to make the game's combat more interesting, tactically challenging, and realistic by more effective use of, and choices of, creatures' abilities. It also contains a few rule tweaks and ease-of-use features.

Version 35 is a fairly substantial release, with the following main features:

  • 60-odd bugfixes and compatibility fixes
  • (Provisional, experimental, partial) support for Icewind Dale: Enhanced Edition
  • New 'revised handling of death effects' component
  • New 'revised elementals' component
  • New 'revised resting' component
  • New 'revised inns' component
  • Reorganization of spell tweaks components along with some new optional tweaks
  • 15 new spells (9 mage, 6 cleric) with the mage spells mostly focused around elemental effects and the cleric spells mostly borrowed from Divine Remix
  • Multiple changes to achieve compatibility with my forthcoming 'Talents of Faerun' mod
  • New component, 'Include bard songs from IWD:EE' (identical to the IWDification component)
  • 'Make spell sequencers and contingencies into innate abilities' restored
  • A few dozen more minor tweaks
