#143513 Yikari's vow of Silence

Posted by Rathwellin the Bard on 19 August 2004 - 09:26 AM in Yikari

If I'm not mistaken many vows of silence have an 'out' and let the person talk if certain criteria are met. For instnace a monk might be allowed to talk at 'dinnertime' or 'in case of emergency' or 'only on Fridays.'

A limited vow of silence like this might work.

You could also have him communicate in 'writing' with the PC. Have him give the PC unidentified 'scrolls' with his messages. Lore skill of 30 or so needed to 'identify' them and actually read his writing.

#153363 Yaga Shura and his army

Posted by Rathwellin the Bard on 17 September 2004 - 05:25 AM in Refinements

- slightly revise the .cres of the army soldiers, including mages and priests;

That was the like that looked like more mages to me. The infrence I drew was that some warrior cre files were going to be changed from soldiers (fighters) to mages and priests.

I disagree with your assessment of the 'army' and the role of the priests, but I'll have to post that later.

#152835 Yaga Shura and his army

Posted by Rathwellin the Bard on 15 September 2004 - 04:48 PM in Refinements

I really like this battle as is for the most part. I might suggest a few more 'normal' fire giants to be in the mix of opponents but not too many. It might be good to add a few fire elementals too ... I seem to recall someone else suggesting that though.

On the other hand I would avoid changing the Oasis as there is already an Improved Oasis mod.

#153139 Yaga Shura and his army

Posted by Rathwellin the Bard on 16 September 2004 - 11:09 AM in Refinements

I'm not too keen on the idea of lots of mages and priests being in Yaga's army. I'm of the opinion that the *vast majority* of folks in an army would be fighters & warrior type monsters. Even in a magic rich world like FR it just seems silly for there to be 1 mage for every 3 fighters for instance. IMO it would be more like 1 for 100 or even less. It also seems very strange that the mages would be randomly mixed in with the warriors. Yes adventurers do that, but armies? I think not. The exception might be Yaga?s personal lieutenants (which is what I saw his final followers as).

Does more random mages make for a tougher battle? Yep. But it's still not very likely IMO and would actually make the fight *less* enjoyable for me.

A better solution might be instead of spawning random mages is to spawn a *group* of mages at one point in the battle. It could be the 'mage squad' or 'magic battalion' or some such all arriving on the scene at one time as a group. *That* would be both realistic and interesting. Ditto for priests.

I'm also not keen on the splash damage. Yaga is a fire *giant* not some sort of mystical fire creature.

Finally I worry about the constant spawning. My old PC could *barely* handle the ascension battle & I *always* made sure to take out all the spawns before tacking Yaga since I usually had major technical problems if I didn't. One time the variables that reduce his vulnerability didn't get set. Another time the game locked. You get the picture. This little proposed 'refinement' is realistic and may even make for a more fun battle but could be a literally game killer.

#113070 Wolfwere paws

Posted by Rathwellin the Bard on 28 April 2004 - 01:41 PM in Refinements

Sigh.

SHAPESHIFTER DRUIDS CANNOT CHANGE INTO WOLFWERES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Shapeshifters turn into Werewolves. It is a *huge* difference.

Mages & Sorcerers can change into Wolfweres vis the Shapechange spell.

#113196 Wolfwere paws

Posted by Rathwellin the Bard on 29 April 2004 - 09:14 AM in Refinements

IMO with weakened immunities more damage would be good.

#113204 Wolfwere paws

Posted by Rathwellin the Bard on 29 April 2004 - 09:32 AM in Refinements

Maybe. I'd warn you though that Feral Spirit gets more and more powerful. I think we should think to make it accessible a bit harder.

Agree. It should have a pre-req or two IMO.

If nothing else to prevent dual classed Shapeshifter / Fighter ease of cheesing.

#113406 Wizard slayer

Don't know about spells but....

The 'fish tank guy' in the underdark reads PCnames mind.

Several foes in Jan's subquest read PCnames mind.

Demogorgon reads PCnames mind.

Jon-bon gets into PCname's dreams.

...

Of course 'immunity to plot device' doesn't seem to be an option....

#113657 Wizard slayer

Just out of curiosity why would a WS care to be immune to true sight?

...unless he is planning on abandoning being a WS alltogther and taking up thievery.

#127826 Why is Imoen a mage?

Posted by Rathwellin the Bard on 29 June 2004 - 04:43 PM in Imoen Relationship

In other words and among other things it was Jon Irenicus who taught her magic.

It's evil & would explain her change in profession perfectly IMO.

Since Imoen never mentions her dualing to mage, nor do you get the option to ask her about it, I believe it is safe to assume you already knew about her new career.

Hey! I did say it was a modded game.... ;) B)

Quitch, every time I read your responses to my posts I feel like we are speaking different languages.

 :turnip2: ^_^

#127702 Why is Imoen a mage?

Posted by Rathwellin the Bard on 29 June 2004 - 11:15 AM in Imoen Relationship

Imoen is a mage in SoA because Bioware thought that most of the people who played with her in the party in BGI dualed her to a mage ... never mind that folks did that for powergaming reasons.

I don't have much to add to the non-mod speculation here, but I do want to say that the best 'in game reason' for Imoen to be a mage that I thought of was after I installed the Refinements mod. With this mod Imoen is a 10th level Swashbuckler dualed to a first level mage at the start of the game ... and it made perfect sense to me. She was a happy go lucky thief (or maybe swashbuckler) and then Irenicus corrupted her.

In other words and among other things it was Jon Irenicus who taught her magic.

It's evil & would explain her change in profession perfectly IMO.

#111218 Why are you waiting

Posted by Rathwellin the Bard on 20 April 2004 - 08:11 AM in Return to Windspear

I think that the board updates may also have a bit to do with that. I had the same cookie problem & it turned out that I was using shortcuts to old board links. Re-did the shortcuts & all was well.

As for why anyone should wait for RtW ... well it has something for everyone. The role-players will get fantastic new content. The battle mongers will get to try their wits against new AI. The folks looking for new high quality content will get their wishes in spades.

#133658 When the uber update is made...

Now *that* is a reasonable explanation.

#131747 When the uber update is made...

Posted by Rathwellin the Bard on 13 July 2004 - 08:46 AM in Tashia

These days I tend to do between 10% and 45% of the sidequests in chapter 2.  The rest I finish in 6.  With my playstyle the two abductions would be unlikely to occur very near each other ... and even if they did it wouldn't bother me much.

I would vote for a Bodhi abduction.

Honestly I would be more likely to change the first 'abduction' rather than the Bodhi one.  I really never saw a reason for her to die.  Dire Charming Tashia would have made more sense to me than the current effort to make her undead or whatever.

#111591 What mods do YOU plan on using with refinements?

Posted by Rathwellin the Bard on 21 April 2004 - 11:35 AM in Refinements

OK, with refinements nearly here, what are your plans? What kind of PC are you planning on playing first? What mods are you going to install and why?

_______

My plan is as follows:

I?ll be playing a NG Sorcerer that I?m taking through a TuTu game right now & I?ll have the following mods
-Ascension
-Kelsey
-Unfinished Business
-Bioware NPC Flirt Packs
-Banter Packs
-Improved Oasis II
-G3 / CamDawq?s BG2 Tweak Pack
-Ashes of Embers
-Tactics (partial)
-Ease of Use (2-3 components only)
-Throne of Bhaal Refinements

There is also a reasonable chance that I will try Dungeon-Be-Gone.

I?m considering Rogue Rebalancing and Virtue as well but only because of hype by Littiz and TGM in their documentation and here.

If I can find another good NPC mod there is a faint chance that I?ll toss that in the mix too.

My goal is to have lots of extra role-playing content while getting to have fun with the new stuff from Refinements.

#199916 What about elven Sword Angels?

Posted by Rathwellin the Bard on 13 April 2005 - 05:25 AM in Refinements

There is also the fact that elves are usually better swordsmen than humans and the fact that in 3e their lifespans got shortened considerably. They are no longer so 'immortal.'

#197026 What about elven Sword Angels?

Posted by Rathwellin the Bard on 31 March 2005 - 07:29 AM in Refinements

If one of your characters is a custom kit (100% chance in Refinements) you'll get screwed up for sure.

I beg to differ. It's not easy but it can be done with SK.

#200457 What about elven Sword Angels?

Posted by Rathwellin the Bard on 15 April 2005 - 10:46 AM in Refinements

Yes, but does the The Black Raven Monestary have an order of monks trained in hand-to-hand combat, or is it a normal monestary?

View Post

I't an unarmed combat monk monestary.

And that's not a problem in 3rd ed. All the base classes are open to all races.
