Hello,

I am infested with Invisible Stalkers. Since I starting playing BW I noticed every once in a while some friendly Stalkers would show up and help with my combats. I didn't summon them. They would seem to appear when an enemy would perform some action (I'm not sure what) They would join in on the fight and stick around the area after it was done. Now when I revisit those same areas I find I still have the Stalkers in those areas, they won't go away (unsummon) and usually it's 2 to 4 of them.

I can't attack them directly I can only kill them off with area affect (fireball, etc.) spells (I didn't try Ctrl + Y yet) Does anyone know what is causing this? I am having some lag issues now in my games (I know I have to clean out my bags of holding/quivers,scroll cases also...) could these be contributing to this?

I really don't need them, though I guess it's nice to have the stalkers around in a tough fight but I didn't ask for the help and (like my inlaws) they overstay their welcome.

Is this also related to the birds I find just showing up randomly in areas that unsummon when I revisit? (Bird Unsummoned)

thanks, -B

Sure.

I did find that I can Ctrl + Y them. I was doing the Shandalar quest and four of them just showed up shortly after Tellan. (They did help kill two winter wolves!)

Thanks! -B

I was doing the Shandalar quest and four of them just showed up shortly after Tellan.

Really weird?!? Was anything weird with the Tellan fight? Are the friendly stalkers show up after the Ice Island, too?

If you load a game and fight with Tellan again, happens the same?

Greetings Leomar

No, the Tellan fight was fine, no problems. I know of Stalkers showing up in Nakashel (sp?) after the mines and when I fight the assasin by the tavern. Also I have noticed friendly Stalkers in the Air room in Durlag's Castle, when I fight the crazy slime wizard after leaving the mines, out by the gates of Baldur's gate itself, and other areas I can't recall right now. After a while I stopped taking note of them 'cause they just appeared. Sometimes I wouldn't see them (no pun intended!) during the fight but would notice them later on when selecting the whole party.

Yep, the stalkers show up again even if I reload and fight again with Tellan.

It's just plain weird...

Hmm, it happens everywhere? This might be very silly, but can you --changelog baldur.bcs? It is the only script that is always acting, and is likely the main culprit.

Or use the attached file. Unpack it in your BG2 main directory and start it. After a few seconds the DOS-Window will close and you find a changelog.txt in your BG2 main directory. Post the content here.

I am helpless. Your WeiDU.log looks good and the changelog gives me no clue...
Why happens this in your megamod and by others not??? What's wrong?

Has someone an idea, what we can do next? Knows someone the filename of the invisible stalkers or other files, so we can make a changelog on them?

Greetings Leomar

My guess is that it is a spell the enemy mages are casting. Replay the fights and note what spell they cast that summon the stalkers. Use shadowkeeper to create some Invisible stalker spells and see if they summon correctly as allies for the party.

When you find the spell the enemies use or how it is done, look it up in Near Infinity and under effects the spawns will be shown. It could be a tweaked spell but the spawns come up as ally not enemy.

Or one other thing I thought of is you said something of birds being unsummoned. What if squirrel and rabbit creature files have been mutated into stalker allies?

Doesn't sound like Invisible Stalkers; sounds like Target(s), those semi-invisible, red-circled critters used by Big Picture (and only BP?) to aid enemy spellcasters with their targeting of spells.

Target(s) have a habit of not disappearing after a fight. I don't think Cntrl-Y gets rid of them. I don't know how to get rid of them once they're spawned.

One more thing for the BP bug list...

I thought Bolens said they summon as allied invisible stalkers.

some friendly Stalkers would show up and help with my combats.

Horred did the fix in the workroom to make the feet circles invisible but sometimes the party will still attack them due to scrying/detect illusion abilities. Originally with BP177 without fix they would still have an animation I think. Either way they would be enemy in the CRE file.

Also their tooltip should say target. If that is the case then BP wins.

I saw this one for the first time, chasing the guy who steals your book you need to get into Candlekeep, when chasing him down, there were some thieves that suddenly appeared, and some invisible stalkers, when the the dust settled, there were the stalkers, showing green, haven't see it happen until now

Do they say invisible stalkers in their tooltip when you move the cursor onto their circle?

I forgot to say Hoppy of one thing I AM certain, and it was that Zeltan or whoever the guy I am chasing, was the one to summon those stalkers. When I finished out the fight which I thought was awfully easy, the stalkers were standing mixed in with the party. Were they supposed to be killing my mages :), we just walked on and left them there, this was on the road going south to Friendly Arms Inn

Hmmmm, sounds fun to play the Vault. However these are not the Big Picture specific creatures used by enemy mages to cast Area spells out of their line of sight. They would say target and may have the same animation as an invisible stalker.

I have not installed Vault but it seems LRP and Bolens have and they have the invisible stalker party. I may wait for a while to install the Vault.

If this is happening with Tellen then he has to be casting some spell that is directly given to him via script or creature file that allows for this. He is not in my game so I don't know.

Well it is definitely worth playing and among the more favorite ones except for the fact, you're given little or no help with some of the quests, like The Vault quest itself, except to say it's out there somewhere heeh. Needs a bit more of a walkthrough which I wouldn't mind adding to if I ever figure out about three of them. Not sure but Zelten may be a thief/mage? OR at least he can summon. FA it was those guys, outside Nashkel I killed him too fast for him to summon anything.

I've played through all the big mods in the BW install, except for Drizzit Saga, part of Northern Tales mod, and the Real Nashkel (and I have NO idea how that one starts but is for around lvl 11 party). I intend to leave comments on each mod. My most favorite by far was the Grey Clan Episode, nice challenging battles, a good story line, with constantly changing scenes, and I thought the author had GREAT attention to the small details that make it believable from posting agents at the scene of a crime to one at the very inn of the mod when you return to Friendly Arms Inn. Superb mod in every way.

I thought the mini quest mod, really well done, mostly humerous, nice not to have to battle and battle, adds some humane touches. I loved the npc packs, and flirt packs and all, it really makes the game fun to replay, my huge complaint there is all the banter and npc flirts comes to an end very quickly, but then I am a slow player and need next time to reset all this to happen at longer intervals and not the average interval. Some great writing there also. Gavin is the most well made npc cleric in this game, period. He's not overpowered and heals any of the others, yourself inlcluded, without prompting if he has heal spells.

Bonehill is pretty good mod also, though a bit long, one gets itchy to finish it, cause one is there and can't break off to do other things for a bit and come back to it. It's not always clear what to do next, and thank goodness for the walk through, but areas and setting do change. I haven't played the second part yet.

Least favorite to me Hoppy was DToSC, I felt that, it just went on and on and on and on. I not a big fan of huge dungeon like crawls. This reflects my personal taste, not anything else. I feel it is also poorly balanced, lots and lots and lots of mobs just coming at you in one area, took a lot of wands, and some re loads, and using some of those uber items (which I keep in a bag of holding) just to get through it. I did find putting the drow armor on my people, helped with all the magic flying around at the end. This is probably the only mod I will not replay again on other characters, or at least not play to the end. They need IMHO to cut out about a third of the underground scenes in the last quest, and leave more restore scrolls about in the the quest after Jet. Which brings HER quest and the damn sister :), Jet does have death ward, so only a couple of reloads to kill her sister before she disappears, I had that same problem as well as constantly respawning mustard jellies in the shack where the dark one's phylactry is, making it very hard to do party buffs to face the dark one outside, with three of the jellies following me out on top of it. I am enjoying NTotC once again because it's not 'overlong' you keep changing tasks w/out taking hours in one place and they're interesting, and stories change around, plus I do not feel obliged to take npc's along that are not part of my origional party. I almost feel taking Jet or the ranger or the dwarf or the other paladin is necessary. You're not forced to but each npc has such a strength germaine to the quest they go on, it makes it much much harder if you do not. Especially if you are in the level seven/eight range. I just get tired of npc's that have nothing to say to you. I thing BG1 NPC's utterly spoiled me for anything less!

In all of these mods, minus the npc mods, even with the balancer installed, and something I do remember checking, I think Ding0 (?), that took out a lot of the overpowered items (from readouts I do know some were taken out, I didn't get them) there's still some AWFULLY overpowered items/spells, I just make a game of 'collecting' them, in a bag of holding I have. It's easy to tell which items they are, and use common sense with your mages, (I do let them memorize what they can but not necessarily cast, which frankly in most cases even at lvl nine they cannot cast most of the yet). I just leave the scrolls sitting in a case also.

But the Vault one is up there among my favorite three, thus far. If I can ever figure out where to go to finish two of them

First remember that DSotSC is the FIRST mod made for BG1/TotSC before BG2 came out. For what it was it is good. "I felt that, it just went on and on and on and on. I not a big fan of huge dungeon like crawls. This reflects my personal taste, not anything else." When I first play DSotSC I really got the feeling of being in the underdark (not knowing when/if I ever was going to get out to safety), but I understand this is not your favorite type of game. It should be map after map (I just wish they were fresh maps, not reused ones) with you going deep down and not knowing when it will end. "I feel it is also poorly balanced, lots and lots and lots of mobs just coming at you in one area, took a lot of wands, and some re loads, and using some of those uber items (which I keep in a bag of holding) just to get through it." Maybe not so unbalanced if you need the uber items? It is unbalanced with the standard game and other mods. "I thing BG1 NPC's utterly spoiled me for anything less!", so true, so true!

I Ride for the King!
