Hello,

I'm working on a tutorial for myself so I can make sense about the whole installation process and was wondering if anyone could look it over and see if I've made any errors.

By the way, I'm not claiming this as an original work or anything as I've used parts of other tutorials, posts, etc. I was just looking for something more comprehensive that would make it easier for me.

Thanks in advance.

BP-BGT-NEJ (and other mods) Installation Guide

I. Initial Installation (installing the original games)

1. Install Baldur?s Gate I and Tales of the Sword Coast in C:\baldur (patch if necessary)
2. Install Baldur?s Gate II in C:\BGII ? SoA
3. Install Badur?s Gate II Expansion: Throne of Bhaal
4. Install patch 26498 for BGII

II. Initial Configuration (configuring the original games)

1. Run BG1 and configure
2. Run BG2 and configure
3. Open baldur.ini and under [Game Options or Program Options] add a line for:
a. DebugMode=1 (Under program options)
b. Cheats=1 (Under game options)
c. Force Dialog Pause=1 (Under game options)

III. Download Appropriate Mod Files from the Wizard?s Mirror (getting the mods that you?re going to use)

IV. Prepare the Download Files for the one-shot installation (preparing the mod files so you can install them all together in one process)

1. Copy all of the relevant downloaded files to C:\BGII ? SoA
a. The two soubar files and the two tdd files are ready to go as is
2. Run bgt_mk3_112.exe and unzip it to C:\BGII - SoA (creates the bgt3 folder)
3. Right click and ?extract to folder? the following files (all within C:\BGII ? SoA)
a. TSv504.zip (creates the TSv504 folder)
b. TSv505.zip (creates the TSv505 folder)
c. lost_files.zip (creates the lost_files folder)
d. patch_snares.zip (creates the patch_snares folder)
4. Right click and ?extract here? the following files (again all within C:\BGII ? SoA)
a. NeverEndingJourney-weiduv13i.rar (creates the NEJ folder, setup-NEJ.exe, and setup-NEJ.tp2)
b. BP-NeJv12.rar (creates the BPNeJ folder, setup-BPNeJ.exe, and setup-BPNeJ.tp2)
c. MK1-MK3_1.13-fixes.rar (creates the MK1-MK3_1.13-fixes folder)
d. TSv501.zip (creates TSv50.exe)
e. TSv503.zip (creates TSv503.exe)
f. BPv161G-FULL.zip (creates BPv161G-FULL.exe)
g. BP-BGTv311.zip (creates BP-BGTv311.exe)
i. Now run BP-BGTv311.exe and click install when prompted (creates the BP-BGT folder, Setup-BP-BGT.exe, Setup-BP-BGT.tp2, and Fixed-BP-BGT-NEJ-310-COMPLETE.exe)
5. Use the file checker (Checker04b) to verify that all of the prepared files are where they ought to be.
6. Create the folder: C:\BGII ? SoA\TS-Install
7. Right click and ?extract here? BP-BGT-NEJ_PATCH313.zip (creates BP-BGT-NEJ_PATCH313.exe)
a. Run BP-BGT-NEJ_PATCH313.exe (creates Setup-BP-BGT-NEJ_PATCH313.exe)
i. Run Setup-BP-BGT-NEJ_PATCH313.exe but do not install (type n and close)

V. Run the Installation (this actually installs BP, BGT, and NEJ)

1. Run Fixed-BP-BGT-NEJ-310-COMPLETE.exe (this will take a while and you
will need to interact somewhat often with the installer so stick around)
a. The destination folder for BP, SOS, and TDD should be C:\BGII ? SoA
b. When installing Shadows over Soubar and the Darkest Day only add the
Misc. Baldurdash fixes (don?t install any other optional extras)
c. The destination folder for Tortured Souls and all of its patches should be
C:\BGII ? SoA\TS-Install
d. When the BGT process starts, type in the full path to Baldur?s Gate I (not
II). If you installed BG1 in the location advised in step 1, your line should look like: C:\baldur^Z; press enter to start the installation
i. This part will be long so now is the time for a break.
e. The starting experience patcher comes up next
i. Select C:\BGII ? SoA and select the BGMain.exe
ii. Reset your starting experience to 100; then exit
f. For the next screens keep typing y; also when readme?s pop-up, close them
to continue.
2. Run Setup-BP-BGT-NEJ_Patch313.exe
3. After this BP-BGT-NEJ is installed and you should be ready to go

VII. Installation of Other Compatible Mods (these are other mods that will work with the BP-BGT-NEJ megamod)

1. Copy all of the files of the mods you want to add to C:\BGII ? SoA
2. Note that of the prominent ones, use the following install order:
a. Check the Bodies
b. Dark Side of the Sword Coast
c. Northern Tales of the Sword Coast
d. Any other Weidu mods afterwards
3. Note: For this installation, I?m installing: DSOTSC, NTOTSC, SOBH, FR-ROV, SBT, and Worldmap.
4. Right click and ?extract here? the DSotSC4BGT-BPv160.rar (creates Setup-DSotSC.exe)
5. Right click and ?extract here? the NTotSC4BGT-BPv120.rar (creates Setup-NTotSC.exe
6. Right click and ?extract here? the BoneHill18BGT-BP.rar (creates setup-bonehill.exe)
7. Right click and ?extract here? the BoneHill4BGT-BPv192.rar (creates setup-bonehill.exe)
8. Right click and ?extract here? the FR_ROV_WeiDUv3.rar (creates the FR & ROV v3 folder)
9. Right click and ?extract here? the SBT14.exe (creates Setup-SBT.exe)
10. Right click and ?extract here? the BP-BGT Worldmap v3.rar (creates Setup BP-BGT Worldmap.exe)
11. After extracting all of the files into the BGII - SoA folder (Bonehill, DSOTSC, etc.) pick one of the "setup" files (any one will do), run it, and cancel the install by typing Q after it has updated the other files to the same version of Weidu.
12. Installing DSOTSC 1.6
a. Run Setup-DSotSC.exe (type y and press enter at all prompts)
13. Install NTOTSC 1.2
a. Run Setup-NTotSC.exe (type y and press enter at all prompts)
14. Install Secret of Bonehill 1.8 and 1.92 patch
a. Run setup-bonehill.exe; (type y and press enter at all prompts)
b. Run setup-bonehillv192.exe; (type y and press enter at all prompts)
15. Install FR/ROV
a. Go into the FR & ROV v3 folder, copy all three items, and paste them into C:\BGII ? SoA
b. Run Setup-FR_ROV.exe; (type y and press enter at all prompts)
16. Install SBT (Shorter Better Transition)
a. Run Setup-SBT.exe; (type y and press enter at all prompts)
17. Install the Worldmap (necessary for DSOTSC and NTOTSC)
a. Run Setup BP-BGT Worldmap.exe (type y and press enter at all prompts)

Wha???

You should never have to run a setup, close it and run it again. The only time this has to be done is if the setup.exe file is getting updated by Weidu. This should only happen once, unless you are downloading and extracting each mod seperately. Try to download everything only once and before you actually start to build out BGT-BP.

TS506 is not for BGT-BP and will not work with BGT-BP so drop it from your list.

BG1 has to have TotSC installed and the English patch for TotSC.

Thanks for the input. I understand your last two points, however what part are you referring to in your first paragraph?

Sorry, that last reply was me. Also, could you elaborate what you mean in your suggestion in the first paragraph; when last I installed, everything happened as I had written, so I'd like to know how to fix what I did wrong.

Thanks.

Any time you run a mod installation, the Setup-modname.exe file is designed to see if it is the latest version of the Weidu program (that is all the setup file is, just a renamed Weidu.exe file). If it isn't the latest version found in the SOA directory, it will update itself and any other older version. Doing so causes the message to display stating that you have to "close this window and reinstall, Weidu won't let me".

For example, BoneHill 1.8 may have a Setup-Bonehill.exe file that is version 1.75 but DSotSC may have a Setup-DSotSC.exe file that is version 1.80. They are the same file but they have different names. Weidu checks to see if any other setup files are newer than the old you are using, if so, it updates itself. But doing so causes the install to stop and you have to run the install again.

If the Setup file has already been updated, an installation should never require you to close it and start over. One double-click of the Setup file will open a window and start the installation process. The best way to make sure all Setup files are the same version is to extract all your mods into the SOA folder at one time and run one of the Setup files. It doesn't matter which one. Once you see that it has updated the others, cancel the install (type Q). Now, all of your mods are using the same version of Weidu and you should not have to keep installing them twice.

If you read the install guides for autoinstalling BGT-BP-NeJ, you will see that this same process is told to you before you even run the autoinstaller. That is because otherwise, Weidu gets updated, closes the screen and trashes your install of BGT-BP-NeJ.

Lastly, when you run Setup-DSotSC or any other mod, all you should have to do is double-click on the Setup file to start the install and tell the prompt which parts of the mod you want to install (usually I select "ask me about each one"). One run through the install process is all you need.

Well, you can keep it there if you want PST and IWD items, BUT I believe NTotSC also adds some of these to the wizard dude (who I can't remember the name of), so you might get some doubles. BTW, you can install the bonus merchants at any time at all.

So basically, after extracting all of the files into my BGII - SoA folder (Bonehill, DSOTSC, etc.) in the "installing additional mods" section I should add a step, where I should pick one of the "setup" files, run it, and cancel the install by typing Q after it has updated the others to the same version of Weidu? Is that correct?

That's a good idea. I've also got a word document I've been updating to correct my errors. After hopefully getting a response to my last question I will make the correction and repost it so I can mark it.

Yes, the party leaving section in the Duchal Palace accounts for DSotSC, and installing DSotSC after SBT can ruin AR7208.BCS. So, normally it should be SBT after DSotSC, but I believe NTotSC can go in between or after to your liking.
