Yes, sounds better, but we mix past tense with present tense. Changing 'liked' to 'likes' takes care of that.
Thus: An axe-wielding dwarf likes to play...

A girl with the hair-colour pink
From her party was torn in a blink
Had to learn that her dad
Was? well, pretty bad
But she came back her true self, I think
