I'm a wee-bit confused, here...

It says in the readme that the install program will ask (prompt) for the Baldur's Gate I installation - yet mine doesn't even ask me where it is. What's up with this?

As a quick note, I've installed the 3-CD version that includes TOTSC.

Looks like somewhy PreSetup.bat is not running in your case.

Can you check if you have it: Program Files\Black Isle\BGII - SoA\BGT\Language\%LANGUAGE%\PreSetup.bat

where %LANGUAGE% is installation language you chose

What version of Windows do you use? There is no chance of compatibility with all 64-bit versions at this time.

You do have a functional DOS I hope? Can you go to cmd, evoke the ver command, then put the entire contents of the output here?

Ok, your operating system seems OK.
From what I gather, the necessary files for installation are there.
The fact that the installation cannot ask you for your installation path seems to indicate a problem with detecting the path from which you ran Setup-BGT.exe. Are you able to run this again (it won't actually affect your installation in any way), and see if you can find what happens during the period after

"Copying 1 file ..."

and before:

"FAILURE:
Installation failed - problem with detecting BG1 directory."

I think it is important that something display between these lines (in your command prompt) because it will help diagnose the problem.

Well, did it again, and here's what I got:
Copying 1 file ...
'find' is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program, or batch file.
FAILURE:
Installation failed - problem with detecting BG1 directory.

Well, that's odd... Hmmm....

Umm, interesting. Do you have FIND.EXE in C:\Windows\System32? If you don't, then something is wrong with your windows installation. If you do, then you might need to set PATH=C:\Windows\System32.

Ah, there we go! Find.exe was there, but for some reason it wouldn't find it. Hmm. Well, I did the PATH command, and it works now. Thanks a bunch!

No problem, although I don't understand why the path settings have been lost. Such details used to be in either autoexec.bat or config.sys, but with Windows XP its a bit more difficult. I think the setting should be intrinsic unless something has gone wrong.

BE SURE TO CHECK FILE FOR VIRUSES.

This might not work. What edition of Windows do you use?
