Well, as a non-BP player, I'm very open to advice as to what's sensible here.

My default plan is that SCS2, if installed after BP, will overwrite all those scripts that BP renames from vanilla BG2 scripts.
For instance, BP replaces MAGE12D with BPMAG12D. So my intention was for SCS2 to replace, in turn, BPMAG12D with its standard mage script. Similarly BP replaces BEHOLD01 with BPBEHOLD, so I intended SCS2 to replace BPBEHOLD with its standard beholder script. That way the player has a choice: if they want BP beholder AI, don't install the "beholder" component of SCS2.

If something else is more sensible, though, I'm all ears...

OK thanks David. Here is another question since you said that SCS2 will not include spells related to other mods in your AI scripts, can the "other" mods be installed after SCS2, thus not using the AI scripting of SCS2, but in turn use their own from the original mod? I am not sure I will play SCS2 with BP, but if I can play some of the other quest mods installed after SCS2, then I can still get the standalone scripts from (mainly spells) from the individual mod(s). So if The Darkest Day is installed after SCS2, I will still get the creatures in that mod using their original mod scripts (spells). I am just looking at other options for when I install SCS2  THANX!

It depends on how it's coded.

Behind-the-scenes details: SCS2 has a long list of mage scriptnames, including all the mage scripts from the vanilla game and all the ones from BP that are replacements for those scripts (e.g. BPMAG12A). It replaces all those scripts with its own mage script, and it rearranges the spellbooks of everyone using those scripts.

So, if another mod uses its own names for scripts (e.g. TDD_MAGE) then SCS2 will leave them alone entirely. (It won't matter which way around you install them but probably SCS2 last will be more stable).

If another mod uses an existing script (e.g. if it replaces MAGE12D) then whichever one of SCS2 and that mod you install last will take precedence. (But then, if the mod is using an existing script it's probably extensively affecting the original game too.)

As for BP, just for further clarity:

As I understand it (I'm not a BP player, so this is mostly from the code), BP does the following:

(1) replace most of the existing game AI
(2) make various modifications to the CRE files (i.e. to the actual stats of the creatures)
(3) introduce lots of new creatures with new AI

SCS2 won't affect (2) or (3), but it will overwrite (1). It's very modular, so it's your call how much you want of it: if you want SCS2 mages but BP priests, install the mage component of SCS2 but not the priest one.

Thanks again David and I will probably install without BP just for getting the flavor of SCS since I haven't tried it yet. SCS sounds like a blast from what I've read. Now I am just reading posts and planning what to install for flavor.

There is some work on fixing the bugs, but it will be some time before the release of a new version. BP is very playable, just don't install 'Ascension for BP' component.

We are looking for volunteers to work with fixing the rest of the bugs in the mod.

I can help u if u need some help. I'm currently testing the new geomantic Kit, i can add BP as well. (my game will be BG2 fix, BGT, only few bg2 tweaks, Geomantic kit and BP eventually).

Unfortunately i won't have so much time but i can try to help. Do u need BG1 part of the game to be tested? Or BG2 one is the onlt one needed?

Thanks,

mm75

Tired of the same boring spawned creatures u face in BG? Try BGSpawn

Is there any mentionable progress on BP 180?

If i decide to use SCS instead where do i have to install it?

Assuming you mean SCS II: last, if possible; certainly, as late in the install order as you can manage.

If you mean SCS on a BGT install that you're planning to mod heavily in other ways: others here will be able to advise better than I. Last (or near-to-last) will probably work, but there may be a better place.

No mega install. Tried that before. Result is not worth the anger and trouble. My opinion

BG1+BG2+ToB+TS+BP/SCS II. That's it.

BG1+BG2+ToB+TS+BP/SCS II. That's it.

But you can't have BG1 without the TuTu( or easy) or BGT(and this also needs the TotSC), in the same game. In which case you use the SCS(1) too, but I'll warn you that it won't work without the TuTu or BGT.
But if you just use the BG2... and ToB, you use the SCS2 as last. Although, you can install NPC, item and forging, BG2 tweaks, (BP-BGT-WORLDMAP and GUI if the other components need them) mods if you so desire.

Install SCS just prior to BP and SCSII after BP.

 I won't use SCS then. Just SCS2 as a replacement for BP. I waited so many months now. Maybe i'll wait some more.
Not that bad 'cause i'm quite out of time anyway.
