Hi all. I've just installed BGII and wanted some advice on what, if any mods, I should install. I've never played the game and am very excited to check it out. I grew up on the ssi gold box games took a break from rpgs for awhile and then got sucked into WoW, which I have recently given up. I'm wating for either SWTOR or GWII and wanted to play BGII through as everyone always seems to agree that it one of the best rpgs ever.

I'm not particularly interested in BGI so I wasn't sure if the Big World Project was right for me. Any advice is much appreciated.

Hello, Docshobby! Wow, I wish I was in your shoes. To play BG2 for the first time again, so to speak, would be awesome and you have an amazing game to look forward to.

As for recommended mods, well, it really depends on what you're looking for. More NPCs? More party banter and dialogues? More quests, new scripting, tweaks...?

(I'd actually recommend playing it completely vanilla your first time.)

Just adding my voice to Choo Choo's. You'll enjoy more whatever mods have to offer after seeing how the vanilla game works (which is a great game by its own right).

I would definitely use some tweak mods, content mods not so much. The issue I always had with the vanilla BG2 was how stupid NPCs (enemies and AI controlled party members) were. This is where I think Sword Coast Stratagems and Sword Coast Stratagems II really shine as they make the AI in the game much better. This obviously has the secondary effect of making the game considerably more difficult even if you don't install any of the tactical challenge components available in the SCS mods.

I'd also look into plain bug fixes by the community as the vanilla game is still quite bugged with the final official patch. BG2 Fixpack is nice for this though there are other tweak mods with further improvements.

Thank you very much. So go Vanilla except for Sword Coast Strategems I and II and BG2 Fixpack. I'm very excited. If anyone else has any thoughts, love to hear them.

For a first-time player I would even avoid using SCS/II, because they do make the game rather difficult which can be intimidating for a first-time player who's just learning the gameplay.

If I were you, I'd probably stick with just the Fixpack. :)

Thanks, will do. One last question. I had read there is a mod that allows widescreen play? Could you possibly point me in the right direction.

I agree with ChooChoo as well. BG2 is a HUGE game and it's extremely enjoyable by itself. Once you've explored most of vanila BG2, that's when mods comes in ;)

BG2 Fixpack, 1PP, and AceAltMusic would be my bare-minimum recommendation for mods, if you want a near-vanilla experience with vastly improved visual and audio content :)

Working and playing on a Mac Pro 6,1 running Mac OS X 10.13.6 High Sierra, and a Mac Pro 3,1 running Mac OS X 10.11.6 El Capitan.

I think I played it through 13 times before I ever added mods. I must have played through another 20 or so times since then...

Don't forget to play Throne of Baal before you start modding; it completes the story,Oh , adn I'd recommend taking Minsc along with you , he really adds colour to the story.
