BGT Spawn Tweak v1.1

Download  |  Readme  |  GitHub

This little mod for Baldur's Gate Trilogy allows you to tweak the parameters of the area spawn points to change the difficulty of the encounters.

Installation steps
1. Install Baldur's Gate Trilogy.
2. Copy setup-spawntweak.exe and the folder spawntweak to your game directory.
3. Open spawntweak/config.ini, read the descriptions and tweak the parameters to your liking.
4. Run setup-spawntweak.exe to install the mod with the configured parameters.

Compatibility notes
BGT Spawn Tweak is fundamentally incompatible with other BGT spawn mods, such as BGSpawn or BGT Tweak Pack component "Altered Spawns".

Available tweaks
* Spawn difficulty modifier
* Maximum number of creatures per spawn point
* Delay between entering an area and spawning
* Spawn probability
* Deactivate the spawn point after spawning once
* Disable all spawns

Difficulty calculator
To calculate the desired spawn difficulty, use the spawning formula and the creature power level list below.

No. spawns = (Spawn Difficulty * Avg. Party Lvl * Party Size) / Creature Power Lvl (rounded down)

That looks like a fine little addition, or "supplement".  However, by calling it such does that imply that BGSpawn is still required to install later on?  I am assuming so but not 100% sure from the wording.  I would assume BGSpawn is still a must to get the more beefed up random ambushes, aka "waylays" that don't appear to be affected by these supplements.

Is BGSpawn still required to install later on?

BGT Spawn Tweak uses the legacy spawn point system and is fundamentally incompatible with BGSpawn and other script-based spawn mods such as BGT Tweak Pack component "Altered Spawns." You shouldn't install these mods together.

Is BGSpawn still a must to get the more beefed up random ambushes, aka "waylays"?

According to the mod readme, component "Random Encounters Between Areas" requires the core BGSpawn component, which isn't compatible with BGT Spawn Tweak.

Thanks for your quick reply, can't wait to try out your tweaks.  I chose hardest difficulty (10) with up to 20 spawns, should be fun.

Congratulations on yet another correction to BGT, bringing this much-complained feature back into its original BG1 intent.

You won't believe it, but I was  looking for information about this mod right now when I saw that you published a topic related to it.

- I was checking this website: https://tamrielfound...ate-experience/
On the part related to BGspawn, it recommends to install everything but the vampiric wolf lord; do you agree?

- Is there a way to have the spawn as original bg1 + TOSC without ruining the spawn in BG2? I would like an "authentic" experience if it is available.

Yes, BGT v1.21 already includes the original BG1TotSC spawns. You don't need any additional spawn mods.

Oky, thanks.

So... if BGT spawn tweak are already like the original experience, wouldn't a mod like the one you published be useful more for modders, rather than players? (for certain areas they may add)

Did anyone publish a series of values/tweaks on the .net that could justify altering the experience?

The spawns in BGT v1.21 without BGT Spawn Tweak should work like in the classic BG1TotSC. BGT Spawn Tweak allows you to modify the spawn point parameters in the BG1 areas eg to make the encounters more difficult.

And the BGSpawn's is completely different mod. An ancient try at making a more representative of the original, along with a lot of others.

You don't need to see eye to eye with the skellytz, doesn't make his work any less useful for the right person. And you don't then need to install the mod.

Just cause you are a good enough to be a human, doesn't make you a person. -Said the cannibal.

Yep, Jarno Mikkola. my Mega Mod FAQ. Use of the BWS, and how to use it(scroll down that post a bit).
OK, desert dweller, welcome to the sanity, you are free to search for the limit, it's out there, we drew it in the sand. Ouh, actually it was still snow then.. but anyways.

I'd use the defaults first. They normalize all BG1 spawn points to:
* highest number of spawned creatures found in the original game (10 creatures)
* lowest spawn delay found in the original (2 sec)
* retain the original probability (85%)
* always reactivate the spawn point
* bump up the difficulty of low-level areas from 1 to 2 (highest found in the original)

This already makes the encounters more interesting because the original spawn points typically have the spawning cap set around 2-5 creatures. I wouldn't necessarily go crazy on the difficulty modifier and max. number of creatures because all these extra spawns will get stuck trying to encircle your tank and you'll be farming too much XP early in the game ^_^ You could also use something like Ding0 Experience Fixer to offset the bigger number of spawns.

Hello, skellytz.

My two cents about this is that BGT Spawn Tweak should be moved back to the BGT forum and be also pinned, possibly unpinning the current BGSpawn topic there. This because the latter is no longer maintained by the author and BGT Spawn Tweak is officially produced and maintained by you.

You are of course free to leave it here, if you like.

I was just giving you my opinion now that I am in the process of installing BGT & C.  :cheers:
