For Dark Side, I think Consular is best, because you get more force points and more force powers, that's good because then you can become a killing machine earlier than usual.
For Light Side, I think Guardian is the best, because the only lightside force powers I used were speed and heal, the other ones just don't last long enough. Also, with all the close-up combat you face, having good fighting skills is a good thing.

I'd agree with both of your choices - the only problem I had with dark side consular was fighting Malak on the Leviathen.

As a light side gaurdian you can handle pretty much fight single handed towards the end.

I agree with the choices too. I really like the dark side consular. Thoroughly enjoyed vying with Malak to suck the life forces.

I play a light consular and when I killed the prisoners I got my force energy restored (used lightsaber throw)

The fantastic robes you get on the Star Forge. The dark gives you additional strengh and the light additional wisdom.

But I also feel that a dark consular probably is the most evil option. Anyone remember the emperor from the movies? Force Lightning is no doubt the coolest power.

BTW, my light side consular managed to defeat Malak the first time without beeing injuried at all. I actually managed to stun him and then fed him with lightning (yes, it's possible for the light side too).

Well yes, but with the extra points of wisdom from the robe, you'll get suifficent points.

I've used that one too in tight spots, but never vs. Malak.

I thought you couldn't get powers of the opposite alignment. I couldn't... this might just be in the PnP game that KotOR is based from, but don't you get ds points for using ds powers? You do in the pnp game, which kinda sucks...I went darkside almost instantly.

I guess my favoured fighting style is to use powerful buffs to raise combat power, and so I favoured Light Consular.

You can use darkside powers as a light Jedi (and light powers as a dark jedi), but you have to pay extra forcepoints for it. And of course, the powers of your own alignment (light for light, and vice versa) cost less.

my ds consular was a monster. By the time I got to the Star Forge I had maximum rank in every harmful ds power. I ha d ridiculous wisdom (something over 20) Many force points. Force Storm, Death Field, Kill... it was almost disappointingly easy.

My fave char. was a dark side lvl 8/12 scoundral/guardian. With High wisdom I still almost never ran out of fp, + I could stack sneak attack w/ force jump if I wielded two lightsbers.

on the other hand, my light side lvl 2/28 soldier/scoundral had that nice built in energy-shield thing.

I must admit I still haven't played a darkside char, I like the lightside too much I guess, I do agree with the lightside guardian though, iirc all my players have ended up as guardians and I tended to kick ass alot

just remember to keep a few usefull jedi tricks up your sleave healing is one of the most important if your going to be a front line all action jedi

Healing is an ESSENTIAL power, as is Force Speed (at least the first version).
