On another forum site I found a link to another site with various No CD game cracks. The idea appeals to me since I can use it then store my disks safely away, instead of in the drive.

My question: will they interfere with BGT-Weidu in any way, shape or form? In other words, are they safe to use?

I have been using them for years. Just patch ToB then apply the the crack. If you play the older BGT or my CA mod, make sure you do this before running the BGMAIN editor that changes your starting XP. I have found that my crack program doesn't work with the BGMAIN.EXE file after it has the starting XP modified.

Tired of Bhaal? Try some classics mods instead:

Install the no-CD crack before installing any mods.

Get a tool like CloneCD (or somethin' freeware), rip the CDs to image files, then virtually mount them using somethin' like Daemon Tools.

Example...

[Alias]
HD0:=C:\Baldur
CD1:=N:\CD1\
CD2:=O:\CD2\
CD3:=P:\CD3\
CD4:=N:\CD4\
CD5:=M:\CD5\ <-- ToB disc image

UltraISO(or any other is makng program) and daemon tools. I use NoCD's from ime to time, but in this case(no real prtection) its safer to use virtual cd drives

Don't virtual drives take up harddrive space tho?

You will tatk up the image size of the CD for each image you have, mine run 400m-630M each, (250G drive not worried about space right now) I have 3 virtual CD's right now, each game that requires a CD has a virtual image mounted, so I don't have to dig them out or swap them around anymore.

Yepp. Thats the way to do it :) Actually after you install and reinstall mods few times your BG2 ends up screwed up. With vcd's it takes around 6-7 min to reinstall it from scratch :)

I still prefer just to do a cd crack and be done with it. But I do keep a backup of cleanly patched and cd cracked TOB install for whenever I have to redo my installation so that kinda nullifies any hd space benefits I would receive from the crack.
