They don't need gold ;)
Maybe a flaw, but not so big, both sorcerer and monk might buy normally only quaterstaff or sling. No armor, no helm, no shield etc. Now, why u need those money on them? Go, do some quests and u'll have money for little shopping :D

hey, that's not right anyway:). Mages need no more than sorcerers and still they get their money

Sadly, monk can't use a quarterstaff.

Mages need no more than sorcerers

And what about those costly scrolls they need to learn new spells ? ^_^

But I agree that there is a problem. Can be explained easily : there are the 2 new classes introduced in BG2 (Barbarian is not really a new class), and at BG2 start, you have no money.

If you have a charisma value of less than 18 you can talk to Firebread in the inn, if you talk to him 30 times he'll give you 300 gold peices.

Persistance pays off.

How much money do the classes normally start with? Is this controlled by 2DA?

Monk should get as much as fighter or cleric (don't remember) and sorcerer as mage. There's no BG2 info about starting money because u start with no money. Have to check in dnd rules :(

From BG1 Manual errata :

Starting Gold:

The starting gold is random but affected by your character class,
as per the AD&D rules, even though it's not listed in the Baldur's
Gate manual. Here's the table (copied from the "Money and Equipment"
chapter of the _AD&D Player's Handbook_):
		Character Group Die Range
		Warrior 5d4 x 10gp (50gp - 200gp)
		Wizard (1d4 + 1) x 10gp (20gp - 50gp)
		Rogue 2d6 x 10gp (20gp - 120gp)
		Priest 3d6 x 10gp (30gp - 180gp)
Multi-class characters use the most advantageous die range of
their classes. Since your character is a mage/thief, the
	 starting gold would be 2d6 x 10gp.

If I could code it, ALL PCs would start with no money. Go help out your neighbors in Candlekeep - you'll get more gold than you deserve.

I don't think that would be fair, Azazello. A PC might be evil and not care at all about the boring chores in Candlekeep. A starting gold amount according to the class complies perfectly to the rules...

I think it'd make more sense if hey all started with the same amount. It says Gorion has given what money he can spare. Does that change with your class?

Kael, your vision is a bit strict meaning that what amount of gold Gorion has spared can vary...This variation is reflected by the PC's class. We are speaking of a simple way for the developers to justify that the amount of money isn't always the same and I believe it works pretty fine... ^_^

Why not just stick to AD&D rules? :)
This is corrected, by the way.
