I fially worked out the various serious bugs in my previous installations of BG2. The problems turned out to be with the AZENmod and the end-biffer mod, so I avoided them, this time round - all other mods are stable. I can't guarantee no minor bugs, for later on in the game, but at least there's no CTDing at the start of the game, like before, and no more slowdowns of any kind. Here's the WEIDU log-file:-

Strontium dog i've found btw major bugs with :
~SETUP-VALEN.TP2~ #0 #10 // Give More Creatures Protection From Level Drain & Undead

Avoid this as u can and this goes for all.

As a matter of fact this component tries to add a protection from undead item to lots of monsters. As a result, on many of the cases the whole inventory of the creatures is screwed up and all that remains is a specific item but x5-10 times for no reason while all the other items are destroyed. I confirmed this on my installation and checked some cre files and they were only screwed up by this specific component. I had to completely uninstall and start from scratch to fix this cause the global properties and effects of many of the creatures such as Mariliths for example was completely screwed up and since this component was installed early and then i biffed the override it made me do a complete reinstall.... bummers...

PS1 : check for example the file psmari1.cre after u install this component to find out for yourself if the file is screwed or not.And this applies to some dragons too, no wonder they lose their immunities some times.

PS2 : And another thing. U installed tactics and improved battles on almost the end of your megamod installation. tactics OVERWRITES files and doesn't add to them. Am I not up to date? How the hell do u expect to have a stable install when u install an overwriter mod after so many weidu ones including megamods? zzzzzzzz......

Are you absolutely sure re this? I couldn't find any mention of this, anywhere, online - admittedly, the whole mod-compatibility-issue is so vaguely covered on the various forums, that it's easy to miss an occasional online comment. It wouldn't be the end of the world to not have the Spell-Pack mod installed, but it does have a few useful extra spells, which I'd rather not miss. Also, as I understand it, CTB is only a quest-mod, it doesn't add extra spells, so I don't see how it could conflict - even the Darkest-Day mod which adds many spells doesn't interfere with other mods that add spells.

I'll definitely check this out, via ShadowKeeper- if I find the relevant file(s) useless, then I suppose I'll have to laboriously reinstall, without it - I'm not surprised as it was previously mentioned that mods that add items to creatures/NPCs can cause problems(as opposed to ones that add items to shops or containers).

- It's a great pity, as I do occasionally use Valen as an NPC, and giving certain monsters immunity to energy-drain is logical, even without Valen - I mean, one shouldn't be able to affect altars or golems with life-/level-draining effects . As it is, I was incredibly premature when I stated that the above WEIDU log-file was an OK installation - everything worked out fine with the CTB CandleKeep prologue, but as soon as I switched to Chateau Irenicus, everything slowed down to a crawl. I'm hoping that an "Owlbiffbat" biffing file will save things, for now.

The reason why I installed it as late as possible was because I primarily wanted the Tactics elements added, and I'd thought that if I installed it earlier, say before DotQuest pack components, then I would have the weaker DoTQuest pack AI etc. components replacing the Tactics AI components - which would mean a lesser game - and I can't have DotQuest Pack(and, afterwards, the Tactics) mod installed before the more minor mods- I've played through BG2 so often that I want as difficult a game as possible without greatly changing the game(so Improved Anvil mod is out for the moment). Also, Tactics, while overwriting things, is a WEIDU mod, just like all the others, so shouldn't be a problem - and I'd want the superlative Tactic's mod AI being used for all the extra minor quest-mods I've installed.

As for Improved Battles, all the fights etc. involved aren't covered by any other mod - shouldn't be an issue.

(I would most appreciate it if any other members could point out any further, potential mod-incompatibilities - it's so difficult to find any mention online re this sort of thing - Thanks a lot for all the current advice so far )

CtB does add some spells, but I've never heard of a conflict with SpellPack.

It might be "safer" to push Tactics further up your list, perhaps just before Oversight, if not higher, to avoid any potential overwriting scenarios. Your later tweaks are mostly good at patching and not overwriting.

Still, I'm not recommending you re-install.

It's from the readme:

SpellPack is compatible with almost any mod, with the exceptions of Refinements, Ashes of Embers spell tweaks, and Check the Bodies. However, installing SpellPack before Refinements shouldn't cause any compatiblity problems.

There is no support from the author's part on Check the Bodies compatibility.

It is also advised (for maximum effect) to install Cleric Remix after Spell Pack. Installing Cleric Remix before Spell Pack will cause no compatibility errors, but some of the changed innate spells for Cleric Kits will use their default SoA version rather than the Lost Crossroads version.

But if it works without any problem, I also like to use it.

Good catch, Leonardo. Haven't read that readme in years.

I just did a comparison of files in CtB and Spellpack folders, and I did not get any matches. I am attaching the file listings --temporarily-- so that others can check themselves. I also looked at TP2 and did not find match.

Perhaps Galactygon can update us, if he can be reached.

Well, I don't think there's a problem with CTB and Spell-Pack, but I'll check to see if the spells provided by Spell-Pack work out OK - there certainly seems no direct conflict re the same spells being installed over each other or whatever. In the mean-time, I should add that, after using the biffing mod "owlbiffbat", I no longer have the stutter-bug or the standard CTD bug occurring whenever I go to the left of the genie in Chateau Irenicus - instead I got a CTD after using the EnableCheatKeys plus "Y" key to kill off the Improved Ilyich and allies(from the Tactics mod), in the library of Chateau Irenicus. I'm hoping against hope, that this is just an isolated bug caused by an unusual overload of my PC, but I doubt it. I certainly won't play the whole game until I'm sure that the 2 levels of Chateau Irenicus are completely bug-free.

I can't help thinking that BG2Fixpack is responsible for these CTDs in Chateau Irenicus, instead of the actual Biffing mods I used -at least I hope so, as without biffing, the game is completely unplayable as a megamod-installation, due to huge slowdown. I never once had these problems with the original Baldurdash-patches and the Tactics mod readme states that the CTD bug which happens after going to the left of the genie occurs if you use the Baldurdash remix with the Improved Ilyich component of Tactics - presumably, anything other than the original non-Remix Baldurdash will cause a CTD - so BG2Fixpack needs to be altered, to sort out this issue.

I will sooner or later have to try a BG2Fixpack-free megamod installation, and will report back on its success(or lack, thereof). I will no doubt have to be absolutely ruthless as regards including any unnecessary NPC mods etc.

In the meantime, any further suggestions of mod-incompatibilities would be most appreciated.

But if it works without any problem, I also like to use it.

But the problem is, you can't chose all the spells(the right once) as a sorcerer, and there are more than one semi-dublicate spell on the choice list. So without Shadowkeeper, they are useless.

This is one of the problems with the original game, that it only allowed a very limited number of spells listed in the spell-book - thankfully, with shadowkeepr, it's solvable.

I replayed my previous installed BG2 megamod game, and, thankfully, it turned out that that CTD occurring in CandleKeep Library did not reoccur, so the game was stable. I decided to reinstall everything, nevertheless, on the off-chance that that Valen-mod component, mentioned before, might be buggy - I couldn't find the psmari1.cre file suggested, but I saw that the "amulet of power" item given to various creatures to protect them against Valen's energy-drain-touch was put into the "hands" slot instead of the "neck" slot, so I'm assuming it's a dodgy thing to install.

I made a minor mistake and had to uninstall one very minor component of one mod that would have wrecked the game a little. Since it made only a very minor change to the BG2 game, and didn't require every other mod to be uninstalled and reinstalled all over again, I'm assuming that my game is fine.

Strontium Dog, what is the Battles mod? Not for incompatibility, but because I want to download it. I can't remember which it is. Hopefully if you get through the CI with no slowdowns or CTDs the rest may just require using some mod tools/editors to add globals manually later on. It looks like a good play even leaving out some of the little SoA stuff.

The "improved battles" mod is an old overwrite mod just like tactics tbh and was planned to be used on old installs along with tactics etc. (since it changed different battles than tactics). The bad is it stopped very fast from being updated and the funny is I found no valid link to download it in the net either the last couple of days.
(I thought I had an old version of it in my hard disk but as it seems I erased it  ) anywayz I doubt it's compatibility with today's mods tbh... unless it was remade anew to fit in today's mods... but that would be kinda huge project to do imo.

Yes, well, you repeated this elsewhere, and was told, in a polite way, that you are {insert polite or not-so-polite phrase for 'wrong'}.
Also, in my culture, the use of the phrase "needs to" is considered rather strongly condescending. Not saying that you meant that; it's just poor phrasing.

I will sooner or later have to try a BG2Fixpack-free megamod installation...

I'm running a Classic Baldurdash game but can't help you on the Improved Ilyich component, 'cause in a previous life I promised myself never to install that. I've kept my promise.

Yes, I know, I've made it clear that it was a local error, re my PC rather than my particular installation or a BG2Fixpack bug. As for the language, well I didn't mean anything by it, but perhaps I was unduly influenced by reading a certain other website which was heavily critical of Bg2Fixpack.

Here is a link to the Improved Battles and Ruad mods, which you can still download:-

(I last played the Improved Battles mod c.3 years ago. along with Tactics(the last-updated version of Tactics, as I recall). The enhanced battles altered by that mod worked out fine with no bugs - in fact the only bug in the entire game that I had was in the middle of the The Darkest Day mod, where I had to CLUAConsole my party to the area of Tarterus, or some such. I have now, of course, installed many other megamods other than TDD, as well as several more minor mods, but I'm hoping I won't have to endure the kind of hassles that various people have been reporting, since I'm not using the Big Picture mod at all).

A ok nice thanx for the link to improved battles though I doubt its compatibility.

Tactics with improved battles may be nice but the fact that u will have major bugs in the game has completely nothing to do with BP.
Its plain simple : The more mods u install, the more possibility u have of screwing up many areas and quests since tactics and improved battles will overwrite over all the other new weidu mods u install... SO your choice...

Yes, I know, but I'm generally very careful not to have mods which overlap - for example, the Improved Battles mod focuses on unique battles which aren't covered by other mods. The only potential conflicts are with DoTQuestPack AI or Tactics AI or other components fromt hose mods, and since Tactics is installed well after Improved Battles and DoTQuestPack, it'll always verwrite the Improved Battles mod-components, if there is indeed a conflict, so it shouldn't be an issue. I will, of course, be happy to post bug-reports with this installation, in future, if they do occur.

Thanks for the link Strontium Dog as well as your insight too, Radagast-The-Brown. I wonder if the Improved Battles is installed after Tactics would make a difference. Looks like the two that overlap are the improved Giants but one should overwrite the other. You would know the installation order better than me but I will check the read me when I download it.
