After checking the game I thought everything was OK, but I got that old familiar bug where the spell "cloudkill" doesn't work at all, among a few other spells. I remember that the bug didn't occur 100% of the time, but that could have been due to other spells being affected, instead, or something. I can't take the risk, so I'm going to heed the above advice(re Spell-Pack/CTB incompatibility) and reinstall all over again, this time. Also, I often get bored installing everything, so I often watch DVDs at the same time(on a PC without dual-core capability) - could that somehow interfere with one's installation? - I mean the mods do seem to install properly, but perhaps some bugs might occur without the PC noticing or whatever?

Re Improved Battles:- Tactics doesn't directly affect the individual battles of the Improved Battles mod - however, its combat-enhancing components such as "Improved Mages"/"Improved Mind-Flayers) etc. are, other than Improved Anvil, the hardest to fight against, undoubtedly harder than the Improved Battles mod - so it would presumably make sense to install Improved Battles first, followed by the Tactics components - I would assume that this would simply mean that the Improved Battles mod would continue, more or less as planned, but that individual mages etc. in each hostile NPC- group would act like in the Tactics mod. At any rate, with IB followed by Tactics, I had a pretty tough fight with the Illithid Master-Brain in the Underark, among others.

I've had a look at NearInfinity and DLTCEP - I have no real idea how to use them, though I suppose NI only works with a selected savegame. DLTCEP, however, seems impossible to manage. Is there an online tutorial on how to use DLTCEP?

Near Infinity and DLTCEP will edit whatever you want. All of us here at SHS fix our megamod bugs using those awesome tools. Be careful though, some things you edit like dialog strings will overwrite your dialog talk. I did that one time and all the text in the game changed apostrophes to guestion marks. Got pretty silly. The DLTCEP tutorial that I have and I think is the same as Gort's link, has really good modding tutorials, area making and such. The editing can only be done if you click on the edit tab and then the files to edit (CRE DLG etc.). Click LOAD EXTERNAL CREATURE(example) but make sure you are not opening the files as "read only". That will open your override folder with the file types.
Good Luck

Just wanted to give an update. This time round, I installed the "The Bigg Tweak-Pack" before the PST mod, instead of after, and I got a minor bug where I didn't automatically get the "Gib Eht" character at the beginning who allows me to have "Insane-level" difficulty re opponents, without the annoying, cheesy extra 200% damage. However, I used a trick mentioned in the BiggTweakPack-readme that stated that you should just click on the AI-setting and press "k", and "Gib Eht" duly appeared, and I set the game to the hardest difficulty. I checked the first party of monsters I got,( to the left of the genie in Chateau Irenicus), and found the same number of duergar and war-dogs that I'd had before when the Gib Eht-character properly appeared in previous savegames - so I'm assuming that the Improved-Difficulty-setting is indeed working(I should add that I'm playing Improved Ilyich re mentioning duergars).

I decided to reinstall my BG2-megamod-game and wanted to mention a couple more bugs which I hadn't noticed before. Up till now I always started with a (legally-allowed) half-elf fighter/mage/thief as a template, saved the game, and then edited it via ShadowKeeper to turn my main Bhaalspawn-PC into a human fighter/mage/thief. With 1_pp and Moinesse-Avatars mods both installed, previously, I had noticed that Imoen's Inventory screen showed two Imoen avatars, one above, with a lower one covering half of the top one. I'd ignored that as Imoen's avatar showed normally in the game proper, but then I discovered, via a new game and save, that avatars for half-elves didn't turn up on the Inventory screen(when I checked my Bhaalspawn PC). I've decided to play safe and just use Moinesse-Avatars as I used it without incident in BG1Tutu previously, and I won't install the 1_pp mod which changes all images in the game to BG1-versions.

Another thing I forgot to mention, previously, is that one should avoid using the Improved Volcano pack like the plague - when I installed it, a large number of parse-errors occurred for previous mods such as Exnem's(and I think BG2FixPack, but can't remember, exactly). Do NOT install it!

One last thing, with the " Clear Fog Of War" mod, it turns out you have to install it before the Bg2Fixpack mod, and after the official 26498 BG2-patch -= then the installation seems to work fine. At least, when I tried to install it, previously, with the other minor mods or just after BG2Fixpack, it would state that it couldn't install due to an area-code which was missing.

I know that some players might accuse me of cheating, as regards using the "Clear Fog Of War" mod, but it actually prevents cheating. One of the key cheats in the past was to go relatively close to an enemy NPC but stop when the hostile NPC was still within the fog of war, and then cast cloudkill etc. at the NPC, while the latter NPC just waits and does nothing. With the fog of war removed, things become much more realistic.

I'll give further updates, in future re bugs, but I'm hoping to have removed all major initial bugs in the game, at this stage.

Every time I get something right, something else turns up. This time round, I accidentally installed the "Improved Irenicus Dungeon" mod, instead of the Improved Ilyich mod - I decided to go on installing everything else, regardless, but, naturally, the CTE bug occurred, as usual, after going to the left of the genie in Chateau Irenicus. This CTD bug may also have been incurred by my installation of the Clear Fog Of War mod - as it turned out, the Clear Fog Of WAr mod didn't remove the fog of war, as such, it just made the rest of the map more or less visible, but still cloaked in shadow - so I'm going to play safe, and not install it next time round, and just use the cheat comand "ExploreArea()., instead.

I also, this time, tried installing the Expanded Thief Stronghold, Domains of Dread, Heart of the Wood, DSR and the Blood-Mortis mods.I'll try them again as I don't think they mess up play, and add a little something to the game.

Well, eveyrthing's working smoothly so far. Once I complete the whole of Chateau Irenicus without major bugs, I'll happily post my new WEIDU log-file, here. I suspect that one or two future quests, such as the Kalah/Circus quest may have some potential bugs, due to possibly overlapping mods, but I'm optimistic so far re results.

At any rate, I've worked out that the following mods clash badly with my current megamod-installation:- AZENmod, Improved Irenicus Dungeon component, "The Four" mod, and possibly the Improved Dungeon component of Improved Battles.

EDIT:- Just wanted to add that I've experienced a tiny bit of slowdown in the game, even after biffing. This slowdown is virtually unnoticeable, and the game as a whole is still easily playable without any hassle. I'm thinking that it might be due to my PC only having 19% free memory-space left, so I'm defragmenting and getting rid of useless files. I've already installed "bottomless bags of holding/avatar-morphing script and one other, all 3 of which were suppposed to contribute to slowdown, so it's too late to uninstall them. I suppose I could reduce the game specifications as well(they're set right now at the highest level re 3D animations etc.) . The PC/NOCs do still move at the same fast rate as one would expect but take a tiny bit longer to get into position, as a group - maybe I should devote more computer space to pathfinding. Anyone have any other ideas re removing slowdown?

Here is an idea too, Strontium Dog re: slowdown due to PC available memory. You can take all of your files from ROT, TDD, SOS, CTB, and other big mod files and burn them to a CD/DVD. You don't want to delete them as you may need the backups later. That process has freed almost a gb out of my BG folder and really helped with slowdowns. I have noticed that slowdowns may be partially responsible for Global variables not setting properly or on time. That can be hell later on when trying to complete quests or getting to next stages. When you get to the uninstall process, move those files back to your BG directory or the uninstall process will get messed. Maybe using a CD/DVD RW is better, so you can do the same process with every megainstall and then delete them when you are done with that particular install.
-Bottomless bags should not be giving you slowdowns early on until you have way too much stuff in them. Not worth uninstalling yet.

I don't understand - you say to uninstall the big-mod(ROT etc.) files from the BG2 file, but then you say to put them back in the BG2 directory to avoid a messy uninstall. If you just meant that I should delete the big mod files I have on the PC which I used to then install into the BG2 file, then that's not going to work as my CD-Rewriter drive went bust some time ago, so I won't be able to store things permanently on CDs from my PC. I only have a 1 gigabyte flash-drive so I can't have all the major mods, let alone the minor ones all installed on it.

At any rate, after defragmenting my C drive and removing other unnecessary files from other games, the slowdown has stopped completely.

Since things are going well and free of bugs, here's my current WEIDU-install log-file(I should mention that, after checking other threads, it seems that the Monk-Remix component I'd installed is full of bugs, but since I virtually never use monks as PCs/NPCs, this isn't an issue for me):-

I came across one minor bug in Chateau Irenicus, where the game CTDed after Karamazov(?), from the Improved Ilyich mod, finished casting the deva-summoning spell. It didn't happen the next time round, perhaps because I'd managed to disrupt the spell-casting beforehand, or perhaps my PC had maybe some sort of temporary malfunction.

Refinements as well as PnP Celestials fiddle with the deva spells. I think I seen in the past a compatibility thread of PnP Celestials and it said that PnP Celestials need to be installed AFTER Refinements in order to work properly. Not sure if that's the issue for you though, for the particular bug since u have way too many mods installed.

My two cents.

Thanks for telling me. I'll check this by doing a new game with a PC cleric and then using the cheat-codes, get him to high enough level to be able to cast the deva spell. If all works out, then I don't have to worry - so far, though, I've tried a large number of different wizard-spells which have worked out fine, so I doubt that cleric spells are affected, if at all.

I can't remember if I mentioned this, before, but when I installed the minimod Tortured Souls Quest, I got 2 or 3 parse-error bugs listed in the WEIDU set-up, though it did state that the mod was installed. However, the mod is so tiny that I didn't think it would matter, and didn't bother to reinstall everything minus just that mod. Plus, I've had virtually no other errors listed with all the other WEIDU-installs. There was admittedly a WEIDU error with the unpatched Imoen Romance mod, but that seems to happen anyway until you patch it with the 1201 Imoen-patch. There was also a "deitm049.itm" file which was put into the Override folder by the Cresslyn Item-adding mod pack - it interfered with the DoTQuestPack mod's AI component and the BG2TweakPack's "Cast Spells At Character Level" component - however, diligently deleting this item-file from the Override folder before installing those two latter mods made everything work fine. Other than that, everything seemed fine.

As for the mention re too many mods installed, I should state that, at first, my first megamod-install attempt was almost twice as big as this one, even without BGT or the Big-Picture mod installed. One of the biggest problems with BG2 is that there is no common concensus-mod from which all other mods should start off as a base. For example, BG1 has BG1Tutu(or EasyTutu, now), and BG1Tutu and all its related compatible mods work absolutely fine without a hitch. Same goes for the Temple of Elemental Evil Circle Of Eight mod-pack and its related mods etc.

I'm particularly not keen on removing the spell-adding mods in the middle - the later ones, at the end, such as Refinements or PnP Celestials might be an option to remove(though I gather if PnP is installed afterwards, it's OK). I'm also really loath to remove some of the more relevant NPC mods(eg:- Branwen/Kido/Tiax) as I'd like to use those NPCs in future games - though I could do without Valen - and I definitely want to keep Improved Battles unless I'm given definite proof it'll break the game, or something. Other than that, though, I'm open to further suggestions re deleting mods.

LOL this thread was huge I had no idea :o
At the beginning I was laughing for the huge mod list, but wtf Leonardo seems to be doing a hell lot of work on it and it seems to be ok and probably great when it gets released. Too bad not many people really care to finish it as fast as possible. Seems way too promising for a future "epic" endless game!! If people manage to finish it with almost no bugs even better!

Great work indeed I spent HOURS on that thread !

Let's hope Leo keeps up the good work

After reading yet another recent thread, I've noticed that someone stated that the Tactics mod didn't, after all, work with the SOS/TS/CTB/ROT mods, unless installed right at the start before those megamods. Is this correct? Should I install Tactics immediately after the BG2Fixpack mod? Or should I just give up and install the Big Picture and all BP-compatible mods, instead?

Another thing - I did notice something , in the current game, that also ocurred before when I played just the Tactics and The Darkest Day mods:- when I used the mirror-image spell on my PC(or other character), enemies would still routinely manage to hit my main PC(if the "to hit" score was reached), despite other images from that spell still remaining in place - yet, the mirror-image spell is supposed to give you immunity to blows until the last image has been "hit". I presume, in hindsight, that this is an AI-related bug - no wonder previous games were so difficult.

I've heard that too. But I've also heard that tactics is much more compatible with baldurdash instead of bg2fixpack. There have been some bugs reported in the past between the bg2fixpack and some tactics components though. I can't seem to remember the thread though. ( Perhaps tactics is even best if installed at the COMPLETELY beginning meaning even BEFORE the bg2fixpack. Who knows? So many opinions ^^:P)

Well, all I can tell you is what is the spell "mirror image" REALLY supposed to do in the pnp ad&d. It creates some images ok. Each time the mirror imaged person is hit there IS an EQUAL chance for EACH image to be hit and the same chance goes for the "real" player. This means that it's correct spellwise that there is ALWAYS on every hit a chance for the player to be hit and the same goes for the images. So it is not an AI problem. It is correct :)

If what u said was true and the images worked as u say then what difference would mirror image and stoneskin have? Think about it. That the one is illusion and the other alteration? nah not likely that's not the only difference.

The only bug-report I could find re BG2Fixpack and Tactics mods was due to the non-dispellable werewolf paws in BG2FixPack version 3, which was removed for version 4. Should be OK(I hope!). There was an admonition to not install Baldurdash Remix with Tactics as that caused the CTD after going left of the genie in Chateau Irenicus. - interestingly, that same CTD bug bug also occurs every time I install the Slightly Improved Irenicus mod, presumably because of a conflict with the BG2Fixpack mod, but Improved Ilyich works out fine.

OK, but even then I would expect a high-level fighter attacking a poorly armed PC Bhaalspawn, to miss, say, 2/3 of the time, with 3 images. Yet, every time they attack they seem to hit me and disrupt my spell-casting(they don't have true-seeing as that would dispel the mirror-image spells). At any rate, I'm hoping this problem will disappear with Tactics installed first, then DOTQuest.

In the mean-time, I should add that it is extremely frustrating that there is no general concensus re bugs. Surely, it would make sense to have one main permanent thread which summarised all previous (recurrent) bug-reports sent in to the 3 or 4 main BG2 modding websites devoted to stating exactly which mods are fully compatible with other specific mods, listing specific clashes/bugs between the various mods, so that one would know never to install 2 particular mods together - rather than having to read very incomplete readmes of specific mods which only list one or two incompatibilities at most. With frequent updating as mods get patched, it would be a godsend for those of us who are trying for the near-perfect install.

If I installed the Tactics mod before the main megamods(ie TDD/SOS/TS/CTB/ROT) wouldn't that mean that those megamods will overwrite the Tactics-mod AI enhancements and just have boring, unenhanced battles? Or would the Tactics AI simply work better in those megamod-quests if installed before them? I'd always thought, up till now, that the Tactics mod should be installed after all quest-related mods in order to ensure they all have the Tactics AI.

When I last played, my BG2+TDD+Tactics game had only one major error, where I couldn't reach the area of Tarterus(?) without using the movetoarea() cheat-code, so if that's all that happens then there shouldn't be a problem.

Mirror image does not grant ac. The enemy can hit u as often as before. If he didn't make misses before, he won't do now either. It only grants an equal chance on each enemy's attack that an image is hurt "INSTEAD" of the caster. Needless to say that if an enemy fighter is above 14-15 level and has grand mastery in his weapon he will very hardly miss and if he is capable of dealing 4 or more attacks per round it is greatly unlikely that u will manage to cast even a single spell on him with only mirror image as a protection. Isn't it logical? with 4 attacks per round he can successfully hit the player instead of the images "AT least" once per round (The odds are against u unless u r the luckiest person there is). So how can u cast a spell? Try using stoneskin in conjunction with mirror image or even better try prot from magical weapons for hard fights.Mislead works too for enemy fighters though prot from magical weapons seems better. :whistling:

Geez mirror image is just a 2nd level spell it's already overpowerful what did u expect from it? To be better from stoneskin?
<_<

Anywayz it's not a problem it's just how the game engine works on this spell. There is no bug at all so don't expect it to change. U just been unlucky perhaps some times that's all. But it's a 2nd level spell give us a break.
