I forget how this is supposed to work. In the various other incarnations of D&D, is magic resistance supposed to be as much a negative as a positive? That is, should party members with magic resistance (such as Grace, with 30%) be resisting beneficial spell effects such as Strength or Power of One?

I already changed Remove Curse to bypass magic resistance, because that could seriously mess up your game (or at least one of your NPC's) permanently. But should all beneficial effects bypass MR, or no?

Ok, answered my own question here. Found this on a search (and it contains my favoritest picture of a succubus ever, too... mmmmmmm...)

http://www.succubus....Pre-4th_Edition

Magic Resistance: Succubi are naturally resistant to magic, able to shake off the effects of damaging spells, and others that would cause her harm. She can "turn off" this power to receive the effects of a beneficial spell.

I'm leaning toward making this global, such that all spells with beneficial effects automatically bypass magic resistance. IOW, any creature in PS:T with magic resistance is capable of "turning it off" for the sake of accepting good effects.

(I actually don't have much of a choice... it's either global or it isn't... I can't -just- do it for Grace and not do it for Vhailor, for example)

Any complaints/disagreement on that one?

Didn't it behave like that in the vanilla game? :S

Yeah, beneficial spells always bypass MR.

Nope. I was just testing out the Max Strength tweak, and thought for a moment that scient had made a mistake when Power of One refused to work on Grace, then I realized it's her MR doing it.

EDIT: Yikes... I may not be able to do anything about it though... that spell's effects are completely done within the engine. Spells that are actually set up in .SPL files, I can change that, but I can't do anything about spells that are wholly in the engine, and I dunno if scient can either.

Under 2ED rules, all creatures with magic resistance were able to reduce it at will (e.g. to receive beneficial spells) so it wasn't an ability restricted to succubi.
