Maps with water are VERY slow

29 August 2026 - 01:41 PM

I can't remember if I had this problem back in my youth, when I played BGTuTu. Now I play BGT and movement of PC and NPC in my party on maps with water is very slow. Animations freeze completely when party is moving. Sometimes after reload of map there are no freezes.

I've tried to turn off static animations in BGConfig.exe. Didn't help. Any ideas what should I tweak maybe in baldur.ini to remove this problem?

An Assertion failed in ObjCreature.cpp at line number... - help?

28 August 2026 - 07:33 AM

Hi. I’ve installed Baldur's Gate The Original Saga + Baldur's Gate 2 Complete (GOG versions) with Baldur's Gate Trilogy using BiG World Project. Fine installer! Thanks to author.

Game didn’t work at first attempt. But then I’ve delved into ReadMe files, shortened list of mods I’d like to play, and game seemed to work fine. Until recently. When trying to enter Peldvale (AR8900) I get error message: An Assertion failed in ObjCreature.cpp at line number 12349.

I can’t find this file in game directory (\BGII - SoA\). I think it is a file with all creatures in a game?
I tried opening CRE file with ShadowKeeper. But it doesn’t have line numbers.

Interesting enough, in my previous test walkthrough (like a week before this message) I got into that area just fine.
I can’t understand what changed. Maybe party composition?

I’ll appreciate any help in solving this problem.

By using the tool Area CRE Checker I was able to pinpoint the problem: creature vicony4 (Viconia) causes the problem. According to Area CRE Checker in my ar8900.bcs there are several Viconias:

File    CRE    Name    Animation    AnimName    AnimType
ar8900.bcs    viconi    Viconia    cefb1a6.bam    cleric_female_elf    bg2_character
ar8900.bcs    viconi4    Viconia    cefb1a6.bam    cleric_female_elf    bg2_character
ar8900.bcs    viconi61    Viconia    cefb1a6.bam    cleric_female_elf    bg2_character

I guess each of them was placed by different mod.

I have AR8900.bcs in following locations of my install:

d:\BGII - SoA\bg1npc\backup\10\AR8900.bcs
d:\BGII - SoA\CtB\over.bak\ar8900.bcs
d:\BGII - SoA\ntotsc\backup\9\AR8900.bcs
d:\BGII - SoA\override\AR8900.bcs

Should I now try different versions of the file and find if any works? Or it will break the save game files?
