#450088 WDR Artwork

Posted by Leila on 29 May 2009 - 12:51 PM in Layers of Reality

I'm in love with everything you've done with traditional media. One of my biggest problems with drawing realism is that it's so hard to do decent expressions, but you manage it perfectly without going into borderline cartoon style.

#450049 Anomen and Keldorn, from BioWare Romances

The portraits on that page made me feel kind of sick for some reason. Jan's is cutesy, though I prefer his current one, but Aerie's and Keldorn's kind of creep me out.

Thank you, berelinde! I made it myself, actually... I've been slooowly working on alternative portraits for BG1, and this one is Alora's.

It says nothing about him actually being 40, though.

Paladins rarely reach his venerable age (40)

#449761 Adding obligatory food?

Posted by Leila on 27 May 2009 - 04:41 PM in IE Mod Ideas

Sounds like feeding the spirit meter in MotB. That was a colossal pain in the butt. I disabled it first chance I got.

Heh, I actually loved it. :S

As for the mod itself... it'd be interesting, I suppose, but I'm not sure how much it'd actually add to the game unless you applied bonuses to Constitution for maintaining a well-balanced diet or something. But then again, there are people who love micro-managing, so those who -don't- like it don't have to install it, of course. But you have to take into account that food doesn't last forever... it could end up being very tedious to manage, and if you were doing a mod based on realism (having to eat) then making food never spoil would be kind of silly.

#449593 Some ideas I've been toying with...

No children, but a wife. At least for a few hours.

(er.. not that I meant to get off topic. Sorry.)

#449492 Then and Now

Posted by Leila on 26 May 2009 - 03:19 AM in Layers of Reality

I think you've definitely improved, at least in your use of composition. The poses you use now are much more dynamic and interesting, and your lineart has gotten cleaner.

I love the Archer Demon and Mercenary Lady. The latter's face and hair remind me of a Sister of Battle.

#449490 Old player, new questions!

Posted by Leila on 26 May 2009 - 03:12 AM in Baldur's Gate Series

If you're not up to Ascension, which -can- be buggy, try Wheels of Prophecy (I think the two mods are compatible actually, but don't quote me on it) over at G3. I think most of the bugs are out, though I haven't tried the newest version yet... I also enjoy Rogue Rebalancing, Xan, Keto, Virtue, and the myriad of components of BG2 Tweaks. UB is good fun, and so is the Quest Pack from the same site--my particularly favourite component of that was an addition to Xzar's Harper quest. :3

Also, I'm not sure if you're taking a semi-custom party simply to avoid banter or if you'd like to have different/more useful classes. If it's the latter, I'd recommend Level 1 NPCs... it takes some getting used to, but you can change the classes of NPCs (say, making Imoen a barbarian) and choose all the skills they'd have at level 1, and when you meet them they level up immediately. It's very useful, especially if you're like me, who only plays clerics but likes all the cleric joinables.

Unfortunately, I'm not all that great at expressing myself when it comes to these things, one of the reasons I haven't commented yet, so please bear with me.

I can't say I like where the relationship between Moira/Alex is going--not because it's fem/fem, but because they seem so incompatible. I don't know what it is, but if I were to see them on the street I'd assume they had a sisterly relationship. There's no real chemistry. If that's what you were going for, you did great, and it'd make much more sense for the two to get into a relationship that wouldn't really go anywhere simply because they find each other attractive; it happens far too often. If not... my apologies. :S

The last chapter did come off as preachy, and was remarkably short at that, but that doesn't make it worse than your previous work. It was a pleasure looking into her mind, and to be honest I didn't think you were trying to tell the readers something until you explained yourself.

As for the general story, I really do enjoy it, and I like the twists you give to quests we've all done a thousand times. The only thing that's really stood out to me is the use of firearms. Don't get me wrong, it makes sense to the setting, it's just a bit to get used to. And the only thing I can say I truly dislike are the numerous battle descriptions--but that's -definitely- just a personal preference, and I know many enjoy them. It makes the peeks into Alex's thought process all the nicer.

#449160 Anomen and Keldorn, from BioWare Romances

Posted by Leila on 24 May 2009 - 07:19 PM in IE Mod Ideas

What you're describing sounds like the perfect mod to me. Anomen and Keldorn are my two favourite NPCs, and I didn't really like the flirt pack, not because he seemed like a prat, but because I'm a bit of a prude and not very romantic, and I really wanted some less mushy and/or smutty flirts and more discussion. Anomen has a lot to say, and he overthinks a lot of things, and I'd love to see that represented in the flirt pack, a la Xan's 'Can we talk?' option. It'd be nice to hear his opinion on things other than the Order and the drink, after all.

As for Keldorn, I like the way you describe the romantic friendship. It'd have to be subtle, and to be honest, I don't think anything could really happen until the -end- of ToB, where there'd be a confrontation, and then a happy-ending epilogue or something similar. But I would like just the option for friendship. I suppose it could be kind of like Kivan, where there are romantic options in the friendship dialogues that would determine if other talks would be romantically coloured.

(Not trying to tell you how to do your own idea, as it probably comes off that way, just thinking... because I -really- like this idea. It's the kind of idea I'd wait years to be materialised.)

#449062 [HELP NEEDED] Proofreading for BG2 quest mod

Posted by Leila on 24 May 2009 - 07:05 AM in Classifieds

I would be happy to help. Summer vacation starts Wednesday, and I have no school tomorrow (I swear, my school system makes the silliest schedules) so I'll have plenty of free time to do this.

I agree, I like your pacing just fine. It might be a problem if you didn't update so punctually.

#446812 Your 5 favourite games.

Posted by Leila on 07 May 2009 - 03:29 AM in General Gameplay

To be honest, I can't believe so many of you have finished MoTB. I haven't finished it so I don't know how good the game is. But NWN2 camera system was enough to drive me insane, I gave up midway. Such a shame. There are so many NWN2 mods out there I want to play (Planescape, Bishop and Casavir romance!)

Mask of the Betrayer is definitely worth -everything- wrong with the engine. I agree, the camera system drove me up the wall. Also, the graphics are shoddy, it's one of the more unstable engines around, and it lags me even at lower settings. The OC's story isn't enough for me to get through that more than once, but MotB has such a good storyline, and the npcs are 5x better than the OC's.

#446333 Your 5 favourite games.

Posted by Leila on 04 May 2009 - 04:08 PM in General Gameplay

This is going by unmodded gameplay (besides patches, fixes, etc).
1. Fallout 1
2. Baldur's Gate
3. Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess
4. Diablo I
5. Mask of the Betrayer

Honourable mentions for Baldur's Gate II, Diablo II, Tales of Destiny, Dawn of War, Planescape: Torment, and Starcraft

You definitely have a knack for inducing anxiety! Or maybe that's just me. Although I can't say I really like your PC's personality--I mean I wouldn't like her as a person if I met her--I still like how she's written. I always appreciate realistic personalities (after all, it'd be nigh on impossible to remain passive and unemotional as a Bhaalspawn), and you've fleshed out Imoen a great deal too. I especially liked her explanation of the trap, and Cass's reaction, and Cass actually enjoying becoming the Slayer. Eerie.

Do you plan on going into more detail on Cass's time in Athkatla?

What do you do about choosing your spells with a new game in BG2? I couldn't pick any, obviously enough, and I couldn't move on without picking any, and telling the game to Pick For Me made it freeze up. Am I missing something?

#445979 Comments on "Hungry Dreams"

Posted by Leila on 02 May 2009 - 04:03 AM in Scribbles on the Wall

Heh, is it wrong of me to feel good about Kaelyn not really getting her way in the Crusade? With your description of Aneele's pre-soulless self I'd imagine even after getting it back she still wouldn't participate.

I actually like that you don't describe battles. Especially when it comes to games, where the action is frequent but without much variation, it can be very tedious to try and describe all 50 ways to hurt someone, and still sound realistic. It can also be very tedious to read it.

I think I covered the slightly older side, and you covered the slightly younger side Leila.

I thought right after I posted it that he looked a bit too young, and I felt like such a hypocrite. xD Ah well.

... They are blue, right?

I'd imagine blue or brown, as I see him as a blonde.

Very nice, although he seems a bit older than his voice and portrait suggest.

Sigh, poor Paladins never get any love. 3:

Edit:
Quick sketch of the guy, touched up even more quickly in PSP.

xD That threw me off so badly! But it makes quite a bit of sense, except for well, Gann--but seeing Gann as L made me giggle profusely. I feel both proud and stupidly fangirlish that I know who everyone is supposed to be. :3

Kivan and Deheriana's wedding, because I can never really imagine my own Bhaalspawns' marriages. I know absolutely nothing about elven weddings, much less each individual subrace, so I borrowed from the now pagan practice of Handfasting for wood elves, as I imagine they'd have a Celtic-inspired culture.

And yeah, I hate backgrounds. :S

Wowee, Epantiras, that first painting is amazing. O_O The detail is amazing, especially how you managed to make the crowd in the background both extremely vague and very detailed. (On a related note, those goblets are so pretty. n_n)

My favourite is the third, it feels much more balanced compared to the others. I can't help but think the first three would make for very relaxing curtains or comfortors...

I'd like to see all your work, if you don't mind uploading.
