#367370 About Ferthgil Trollslayer in DSOTSC

Nope, you're done. Congratulations!

Okay. Thanks for confirming. Makes me feel better :D

#367354 About Ferthgil Trollslayer in DSOTSC

Posted by bigmoshi on 22 December 2007 - 06:12 PM in DSotSC (BGT/EET)

Hello, I just finished the DSOTSC quest, and I like them but I need to check on the last one that dealt with the drow encampment. I'm not sure if I finished it right.

I managed to start the quest from otho, then from maps DSC020 - DSC026 it was just plain slaughtering of duergars & orcs.

In the prison (DSC027) I met Ferthgil Trollslayer, and managed to fight off the countless numbers of duergars that spawned in the map. Then Ferthgil joined my party and says that there are things that he wants to investigate. There was this area on this map heading towards the north-east that I couldnt access, because the door wouldn't open.

But there wasn't any quest after that. From DSC028 onwards, I was just killing my way out till I met the drow Shar-Nadal. Then, it was another vicious fight scene. After that I found my way back to the bandit encampment.

I just took the hammer & returned it to Otho.

Was there any mini-quest in between those maps that I missed out? I mean like Ferthgil he wanted to investigate stuff, as well as having a last name of Trollslayer, I thot maybe I missed out on some trolls. I also found the demon Atr'Jkslad'Roa'CH in DSC031.

PS: oh yah I also found the book "History of the Dark Side" - FUNNY :D

Did you consider including BP_Balancer into the list ?
http://www.shsforums...mp;showfile=493

I assume that question was directed at me. Agree that a balancer mod would be useful, and probably a dozen things more. However, that aside, stablity is a concerning issue for me right now, which is why I prefer not to add things outside erebusant's install (he's been testing it for over a year). I hope you understand.

To balance up the game, I just decided to will myself to ignore the +3 items I'm finding except a few nice ones that make me happy :D Anyway, its quite off-topic here (hehe sory) as I don't think we should hijack this thread. Please post in http://www.shsforums...showtopic=30695 or create a new thread should you have further clarifications. Have fun :)

#367302 Overall impressions

Posted by bigmoshi on 22 December 2007 - 07:01 AM in Secret of Bone Hill

Hello,

First of all I would like to thank for increasing the world of Baldur's gate by making this mod.

criticism:
1) I would appreciate your maps to be more different from the original BG maps, as i don't enjoy to explore the exactly same map again.
(It would be ok to add at least some special structures or something to make it really different)
2) I know I can't expect the same game quality as in the original bg, but I'm missing so BG specific atmospheric details that makes the game much more enjoyable.
2a) More dialogs that motivate you more to do that what you are supposed to do (Like bandit Sam killed my husband, pls revenge him, when you meet that bandit, you can have some dialog with him)
2c) Even minor stupid mini dialogs makes it better, like "He came by the west entrance, come here boys", "The boss will get me extra food if I bring him your body" or the last living bandit would say "I was supposed to slaughter few stupid villagers, this is not what I was paid for"
3) You should make the stores bit less overpowered (TOB healing potions in the place u expect lvl 4 players? common)
4) I encountered bug, where all items in the temple had no icons and cost 0 gp.

I hope you are not angry that I pointed what I didn't like but I really believe that you made a lot of work on that mod, and that just a bit more work can make it much better.

PS sorry for my English :)

Hi kovarex, probably no one would disagree with you on those points that minor things make the difference.

But I think the priority that the modders have right now for this completed mod is to stablize the packages and make sure that majority of the bigger issues are getting their attention. It would be crazy to decorate your house if you can't get the pillar straight.

Back to topic --> Kudos to SoBH team, just played part 1 of the mod couple of days ago, and thoroughly enjoyed it.

#367295 Mega-WeiDU Install Instruction w/ BG2 Fixpack

Posted by bigmoshi on 22 December 2007 - 12:42 AM in Mega Mod Help

Mods I didn't googled out (Could you provide them somehow?):
Vault Item Pack (found only version 5.0)
Black Rose Part I: Market Prices
Domains of Dread
Shadows Of Amn/TOB Item Upgrades (SETUP-ITEMUPGRADE.TP2)
(Experience reduction mod) (SETUP-XPMOD.TP2) (Seems like something similar is in the setup-d0tweak, but I suppose it wont work so perfectly when not installed last, on the other hand setup-d0tweak is after all the big mods, so it should probably change most of the content)
You have SETUP-DESECRATIONOFSOULS.TP2 I have the version with Setup-DOS.Tp2 (also version 2.6) I hope it is the same

I tried to provide the download links in the installation guide over here  http://www.shsforums...showtopic=30695

As for the auto-installer, maybe you can get some more ideas here http://www.shsforums...showtopic=29922. You'll have to circumvent the issue raised by Acension on unauthorized mirroring. Have fun.

#367292 SMM Auto-DL / Auto-Installer (GUI) / Manual Install / WalkThru

Updated new walkthrough areas including SoBH & DSOTSC.

Posted by bigmoshi on 17 December 2007 - 06:46 AM in Mega Mod Help

To Salk: Thanks :)

To Kestutis:

I think it should only affect the 3 files below:

(a) Backup AR3499.ARE + ar3499.bcs + SPELL.IDS in your override directory.

(b) Then use replace the ones in your override directory with these ones in files.zip that I have attached.

Otherwise, I think it may be better to just reinstall everything. Good luck.

#366085 Combat music issues

Posted by bigmoshi on 14 December 2007 - 05:50 PM in Mega Mod Help

Hi Daelric, I did some testing, and I faced the same problem as you with the combat music when I installed the option for "Full Baldur's Gate and Tales of the Sword Coast Music". I suggest you either uninstall it or choose the "Hybrid Baldur?s Gate/Shadows of Amn/Throne of Bhaal music", as they both seem to work fine.

Hope this helps.

#365758 Help with install

Posted by bigmoshi on 13 December 2007 - 03:51 AM in Mega Mod Help

I haven't really played BW, but seriously its probably too big for me. Even for erebusant's log, I had to spend about a week to tweak it before it would even install right. But now, i'm playing a seriously fun game right now. So good that i've been just staying home to play it every night for the past week :D

Btw, I installed based on erebusant's most recent log. ie BGT at second place.

Still playing through it. However, it should probably be stable since it varies from Erebusant's installation only slightly. Hopefully, we can catch more bugs and fry them if more ppl just stick to a single installation order.

#364874 SMM Auto-DL / Auto-Installer (GUI) / Manual Install / WalkThru

Posted by bigmoshi on 08 December 2007 - 03:44 AM in Mega Mod Help

1. Overview of SMM Package & Documentation

The Standard MegaMod (SMM) Auto-Installation for BG1+ToSC & BG2+ToB is an auto-installation program that helps you install a "mega-modification" of quests/items/scripts extended by the die-hard modding community built around the Baldur's Gate Trilogy series using the Bioware Infinity Engine. Note: "Standard" should be interpreted as common/usual (not minimal, full, custom install)

There are two ways to install the SMM package (refer to full documentation):

Method A - Complete Automation (recommended)
  • Download SMM AutoInstaller + SMM MOD_SOURCE - section 1 in full documentation
  • Auto-download the mods required - section 2 in full documentation
  • Auto-installation procedures - section 4 in full documentation
  • Support for SMM installed games - section 3 in full documentation
  • Download SMM walkthrough - section 1 in full documentation
Method B - Manual Installation (if you have some good reason)
  • Download mods using Mod Links (convenience) - section 1 in full documentation
  • Read SMM Manual Installation Guide - section 1 in full documentation
  • Support for SMM installed games - section 3 in full documentation
  • Download SMM walkthrough - section 1 in full documentation
The full documentation is now available at SMM Auto-Installation for Baldur Gate Fans (Please read beforehand).
This post will now only be the support thread for the SMM Installation. Hopefully, this will help lost souls out there looking just to have some fun in BG again. PS: I tried to include everyone who has helped out in the credits section in the full documentation. Please let me know if I accidentally left your name out.

2. Auto-Installer Bug Reporting

Please report bugs / difficulties in using the installer. Its a great pity there's a large treasure trove mods, but so many non-modders cant play it. Considering features for the next fuss-free autoinstaller release (trying to collect more bugs before releasing), meanwhile going to get into my game again. School has started :( -

Considering features for next release
  • "Apply Settings" to update winrar & bg1 paths to config XML file
  • Suppress zip extraction for selected mods
  • Real-time update of url links in SMM-Config.xml
  • Installation Timer
  • Auto-uninstall BG1 (Issue a prompt before uninstall or zip-up/uninstall) - by Nazar
Identified Bug/Issue List
  • "Download Issue: Wrong mod names in BG2\MOD_SOURCE directory".

[Crowlord said] that the program was expecting those mods to have _'s instead of -'s. All I had to do was change those mods filenames from, for example, AjocsMinimodWeidu-v16 to AjocsMinimodWeidu_v16.

Reason was because the file names on the mirrors changed since the date when the auto-installer was released.
Solution~ You can rename them manually, or just run this batch file (CLICK HERE) in BG2\MOD_SOURCE directory. Thanks to Crowlord & Sadun.
  • "Unable to manually download ruad-v20.exe". For some reason, the file acts up with some internet browsers, and loads up on the browser instead of initiating a download.
    Solution~

[Rabbi said] to circumvented this by going to http://www.fridgecom...moonfruit/mods/ and right-click save-as ruadv20.exe into the folder.

using Mozilla Firefox or Opera Browser. Thanks to Sadun, Rabbi & Valiad for reporting.

  • "Minor Error: Cannot BG1 & Winrar install paths". For some of you, the toolbox will prompt you that it cannot find the proper directories even if they are in fact correct. This is because the toolbox does a quick check that the paths are valid including a BGMain.exe file in your BG1 directory. For some reason, you may not have this file. (Ascension64 adds: Someone needs to confirm, but I believe BGMain.exe doesn't exist on a BG:The Original Saga installation, and only on a 5+1CD BG:TotSC installation)
Solution~ Create a blank text file and rename it as BGMain.exe in your BG1 directory to by-pass the check before performing the installation (see image below). Thanks to Nazar, Sadun & Jakar for reporting this.

3. Generic XML Builder for custom mega-mods
For newbies, please ignore this customised demo as its not worth your time figuring out what it does
Yes, I have been saying a thousand times that I won't be customising the package, and I won't. The components in the SMM package will remain the same. But, thanks to Sadun & Azazello feedback, now there's a configurable XML builder that can work with the auto-installer for customised Mega-Mods. See http://moddy.forbesn...k.com/index.php to find out more. Features include (as at 28.12.07):
  • Note: Only for demo purposes, mod listing is not complete.
  • Language selection
  • Mega-mod templating
  • Has the ability to resolve mod-conflicts / mod-requirements - (just that someone has to input those values, which I'm not going to do)
  • Generates a installation xml file + export listing.
  • Since it uses the GUI MM toolbox, it enjoys file protection, simple recovery procedures, as well as controls process threads for fast computers.

#364378 [Release] BG1 Unfinished Business for BGT

Posted by bigmoshi on 06 December 2007 - 01:48 AM in BGT Archive

Hi, I'm trying to figure out whether to install the unfinished business in BG1 or BG2 directory.

The default unzip location for BG1UB-v4.exe is to my BG1 directory. But I already installed BGT. So, should I redirect the BG1UB-v4.exe installation to BG2 directory? From what i read in BGT,

How does BGT-WeiDU incorporate Baldur’s Gate and Tales of the Sword Coast into my Baldur’s Gate II installation?

BGT-WeiDU tries to keep the addition of Baldur’s Gate and Tales of the Sword Coast to Baldur’s Gate II mostly faithful to the original, in that glaring bugs in the original Baldur’s Gate and Tales of the Sword Coast are fixed as much as possible without changing the way gameplay and the story progresses. Therefore, the installation imports most of the core resources of the modification directly from your existing Baldur’s Gate and Tales of the Sword Coast. Your original Baldur’s Gate and Tales of the Sword Coast is unaffected because all the required data is duplicated and compressed into your Baldur’s Gate II installation. This requires a fair amount of disk space, but this saves you from downloading large packages of data that you already have, as in the case of Bardez’s Baldur’s Gate Trilogy. You may also choose to uninstall Baldur’s Gate and Tales of the Sword Coast after installation to free up some disk space. Despite this, several new features that utilise the advantages of the Baldur’s Gate II engine have been introduced.

Hence, I presume that if i installed BG1UB-v4.exe into the old BG directory, then the tweaks will not affect my SoA directory? Which is probably wrong i think. Can anyone confirm that I should install into my SoA directory? Thanks a dozen.

#364128 Mega-WeiDU Install Instruction w/ BG2 Fixpack

Posted by bigmoshi on 04 December 2007 - 07:25 AM in Mega Mod Help

Is NEJ2 v6.91 now compatible with the mega-mods?

I am trying to follow the installation sequence given in the latest weidu.log: WeiDU_Install_Log_111907.txt ( 26.73k ) by installing NEJ2V691 after BGTv1.05a. However, the installation said that first component "Never Ending Journey Second Edition v6.91" couldn't be installed because I didn't install Baldurdash v1.6.
Here's the relevant excerpt of the reference log:

// Log of Currently Installed WeiDU Mods

Is there something we need to do to by-pass this check? Or should we actually continue to skip NEJ2 as we did in the past?

Any guidance/link will be most appreciated. Thanks all.

I'm currently testing it with my mega-mod to see where the issues arise. Call it a "Beta" install if you will. There are some changes you need to do to the .tp2 to get it to install properly, similar to NEJ42b however I'm not ready to post them yet. The WeiDU is mainly to show which mods are being tested in what order to end with a stable mega-mod.

Wow, that was fast. Too lazy to edit the tp2 :P, so i'll just skip NEJ for now and enjoy the rest of the fabulous mods.
Good luck on your testing. Thanks for ur hard work :D

#364126 Mega Mod Auto-Installer

Posted by bigmoshi on 04 December 2007 - 07:09 AM in Mega Mod Help

Two thumbs up for the idea, but because modding is generally in flux, it would be best not to do patched-up mega-mods like big-world. Intuitively, that approach would give rise to a lot of maintenance work and likely a lot of bugs. Since the weidu-format is already robust and stable, a simple command-line clean auto installer would be effective enough. Seriously, I dont really care if i'm using weidu 2.00 or 2.01 as long as the job gets done.

Perhaps, if you are gog to do it anyway, it would be less painful to design like this:

The autoinstaller comprises 3 basic files, nothing fanciful:
[a] autosetup.bat - command-line driven file that performs the tasks below
[b] modlist-ver1245.txt - stores (1) list of mods in sequence (2) MD5hashes (3) mod-components to install for each mod
[c] checksum.exe - performs the MD5 hash-checking using file modlist-ver1245txt

First the user has to install BG+TOSC, BG2+TOB & the official patches.
Directory structure is something like this:

+ <Program Files>
----+ <Baldur's Gate>
----+ <Shadows of Amn>
--------+ <MODS>
--------+ <BACKUP>
--------+ <data>
--------+ <override>
--------+ dialog.tlk
--------+ ......

The user should dump all the relevant mods into <MODS> directory
Using winrar's command-line interface, the auto installation tasks by autosetup.bat would be:
[a] run checksum dialog.tlk to ensure that it is a clean installation.
[b] run checksum all the mods in <MODS> using MD5-hash in modlist-ver1245.txt
[c] any other verification tasks, if necessary.
[d] run WINRAR-COMPRESS <data>, <override>, dialog.tlk and other relevant files to <BACKUP> directory
[e] For each mod in modlist-ver1245.txt
----{
           run WINRAR-EXTRACT  <Shadows of Amn>\<MODS>\modfile to <Shadows of Amn>
           run weidu's "--force-install-rest X Y..." command based on modlist-ver1245.txt
----}

To uninstall:
[a] delete any file/folder that is not supposed to be in a clean installation
[b] delete weidu.log
[c] run WINRAR-EXTRACT <data>, <override>, dialog.tlk  from <BACKUP>

Maintainability:
[a] only revisions required for modlist-ver1245.txt
[b] no mega-mod patching. Leave the patching to modders. Add only compatible mods into the mega-list.

Kudos to whoever does a simple installer like this, rather than one like BigWorld where I have to read 150 pages to install the mega-mods. I love BG, but haven't much time to play nowadays :(
